This project is jointly done with the Wildwood Trust who are the ones with the animal knowledge and without whom this would never have gone ahead. Shame KWT avoid even mentioning them.
Never look down on small beginnings. If these bison really do restore the land to something more healthy, the concept will grow. As they said in the video, the UK is one of the most developed countries and very little land is left for nature. It all has to start somewhere. I would imagine that people also need convincing that its a good thing before they buy into anything more. "More" just may require a sacrifice they weren't prepared for.
The UK is so overpopulated, it´s incredible. Luckily Europe in the next years will lose a lot population and nature will slowly take back a lot of ground again
Living around American Bison country myself, I love the idea of returning native animals to their territory. It would be a far better world if we could learn to eat native animals instead of bringing in nonnative cattle and cows that destroy the habitat. Bison meat is very good and slowly we are seeing more of it in the grocery stores. The more people and more countries who develop a natural way of sustaining themselves and their land, the far better the world will be. Hopefully the young ones coming up will know a more natural world without all the negative impacts of man.
As soon as they become Wild animals they will belong to no one until they are killed or die on someone's property. Unless specifically protected by law they will be in the same category as Wild boar. This means that, to paraphrase the line from Jaws, I am going to need a bigger truck and crane to recover the carcasses and a bigger freezer! My rifle will do the job though, based on it's champion from 1930s USA,
Brillian. I hope the project flourishes so we can roll out more
