The final fantasy crossover explains up to floor 100, but beyond that is still a mystery. Floor 151+ you appear to be so deep down that you’re starting to enter the realm of the Aetherial Sea. At least that’s what I believe is to explain the bizarre appearance of those floors. We see the same kind of distortion on the bottom floors of Orthos, but that makes sense for the Allagans. The bottom floors of Palace of the Dead on the other hand is still shrouded in mystery. There are what appears to be ruins scattered in the distortion of the bottom floors, and on floor 200 you can see fallen structures at the bottom. The architecture almost seem to resemble structures of the Ancients.. I wonder if PotD was a hint to them, long before the idea of the Ancients were fully fleshed out by the developers.
I really like PotD's story and theme, so I was very happy to see a video from one of the most illustrious scribes in all Hydaelyn about it! Thanks for making this content, friend! You're amazing.
Death is actually a lovely chap in a suit, with glasses and a cup of coffee. an accountant type of guy that just does his job for eternity. He is very talkative and would really wish people would understand that it's nothing personal. it's just his job.
you are both wrong, death has golden eyes and his hair is burgundy with a white streak. He wears a stylish black military coat, adorned with gold on the chest and white fur along the trimmings, and white gloves. He is also constantly on a mood.
The topic ive been waiting for! Deep Dungeon Lore! Cant wait for HoH and the future Deep Dungeon we are getting. HoH story was lackluster unlike PotD, mayhaps there is more information we dont know?
Thanks for this. Palace of the Dead is one of the many things in ARR that I would unlock and get the opening story to, only to wait several weeks for friends to become free to do it with me so that by the time I finally did it, I forgot the story for WHY I was doing it.
I was one of the many adventures that investigated the place and knew Edda personally, as I ran into her band many times and attended her so called wedding. In that forsaken palace I found her spirit again and in the thrall of that vile necromancer and freed her from his influence. Professor while I can't prove it and at the time I dismissed it as her mad ravings...she mentioned a voice in diary. A voice that brought her onto the path of necromancy. What if that voice was him? I can't help but wonder.
The FFTactics and Tactics Ogre references went right over my head until I heard the dude say Ultima's summoning line. Then the undertones became explicit overtones.
(The following comment is made in character as a Warrior of Light) Through my explorations in the Palace, I have been able to identify several of the appritions apart from Miss Pureheart, or rather, Miss Blackbosom.. This is who I've been able to identify. Teledji Adeledji, the magnate who tried to frame me and the Scions for the presumed assassination of Nanamo Ul Namo, and met the proverbial horns of the Bull of Ala Mhigo. Foulques, a Duskwight Lancer driven to homicidal madness after he had been thrown under the carriage by his compaitriots and, in his madness, fell to his death. Ungust, a merchant who had impersonated a priest in order to provide Amal'jaa zealots with tempered subjects, only to become tempered himself and put to the sword after I struck down Ifrit. A trio of adventurers whose names I forget who had over estimated their abilities and met their end in the Copperbell Mines. An immortal flame who I suspect to have once been Jakys Ryder, a victim of the Calamity. A heretic I unmasked and struck down who had assumed the identity of Inquisitor Gulliame of Ishgard. If only he knew what had happened during my adventures in Ishgard and Dravania, not to mention the Final Chorus of the Dragonsong War. Additionally, not only was I able to recover my full strength while inside the Palace, but I was able to exceed it, nearly double it. Which makes me wonder, could I feasibly attain such power outside the Palace as my adventures continue? However, as they say, twice the power led to twice the pride, and double the fall, forcing me to retreat before I could reach the top of the Palace,, where I assume the source of all this lurks. I will have more to share as I continue my investigations into the Palace.
I've seen people entering the Palace beyond floors 100 and at the bottom most floor... is a crystal pumpkin and a peaceful park with a bench. Maybe the one who created the palace created that room first. Needless to say, it's a relief for those who survive the warped abominations for Floors 100-199.
Not gonna lie, I'm rather bummed to find out PotD was just a crossover with Tactics Ogre instead of its own thing withing FFXIV. I remember getting down to the bottom finally and checking everything out as we went along, and having all these thoughts about how mysterious it was and maybe the devs finally made something original and made it with the intention of being mysterious. I always had a feeling it was a place that lay "somewhere between," but I also assumed that without the full explanation, it was MEANT to be mysterious. Sad to find out that, once again, Squeenix can't seem to come up with anything TRULY original apart from MSQ and MSQ bosses and just ripped from another game. Still, I loved running PotD when it was new to me :D

Finally Potd lore hopefully more soon or Heaven on high is next!
Oh yeah, that tower needs to be covered eventually too. haha

So glad I took yer class. Never been much interested in PotD, until NOW!!!! 👀
Watch out for floor traps!

it's just his job.
I thought they were a really thin bloke in robes, with a scythe and a horse named Binky

@@TheJohnnylupine Ah well you see that was just how he was, when he began his job as an apprentice.
These days he has moved up the ladder.
@@notahero8487 That's not death ...
That's War.
I truly feel, we should go back to the orignal death, the reapers touch wasn't a painful death but a gentle one.
I played through Tactics Ogre because I was obsessed with PotD in XIV. Now it's one of my favorite games.
how are they similiar?
I've been looking forward seeing this topic! Been curiosu about the Palace of the Dead for a long while now.
It's a strange place we don't fully understand, but we know enough. haha
The topic ive been waiting for! Deep Dungeon Lore! Cant wait for HoH and the future Deep Dungeon we are getting. HoH story was lackluster unlike PotD, mayhaps there is more information we dont know?
Actually I'm looking forward to covering HoH as it has some very interesting implications in the lore.

I know they would never add it but man. Necromancer would be such a cool job. Or at least like. A bone mage or something
Foulques was done so dirty.

You're welcome! Hope I did it justice!
Poor, poor Edda. :(
That's what healer anxiety will do to you.
@@Puddingskin01 As a Whm and Sch, that sounds concerning. 😆
I love your videos man, they’re so illuminating and rich with detail and care, have you ever done any videos on 1.0?
Yup! I've covered Nael van Darnus, the first villain of FFXIV back in 1.0. I plan to do more as interest rises.
_DENIZENS OF THE ABYSS! FROM INK OF BLACKEST NIGHT I SUMMON YOU! DARKNESS TO ME!_ - Nybeth Obdilord
Any good reasons why floor 151th and onward look like that?
Lol oh no, its the Backrooms with a side of necromancy
you’re… not wrong. good point
As a Tactics Ogre fan, I am pleased
The lair of the foul lich nybeth
...while I know what you were going for (I think you meant "foul"), now I'm picturing Nybeth just being a gigantic chicken necromancer. XD

Yeah. Most people don't realize how heavily FFXIV has leaned on crossovers over the years until all of them are pointed out. It's a lot. haha
I recently attempted to clear floor 100 with my boyfriend, I had no idea about the Kuribu mechanic and we wiped to the adds
Drained every last drop huh 😏
What i know about death, he looks Gucciand fabulous, all seriousness i really enjoy your videos
Any chances that PotD might be retconned in being inspired by Pandæmonium?
Since it's Tactics Ogre crossover I'd say probably not.
