Implement a national booking system, first no show = 1 month ban, 2nd = 6 month, 3rd = 1 year. Some wealthy folks will book several sites and decide where to stay on the day of.
Agree with all you suggested here, but wealthy folks would just buy a place there & not own an rv. People can be rude and entitled - no matter how thick the wallet.
And not just pejorative, how about some ameliorative rewards, like for arriving by "x" time you get 5% off, or on third booking you show up to (with no "no show" on record) you get a free night? Giving positive reinforcement works better than punishment.
During Christmas week we stayed at Grayton beach then moved to St. Andrews. There was an issue with our neighbors and we wanted to move. St. Andrews was totally booked but there were 4 sites empty. The office could not do anything. So we tried to cancel the remaining days of our stay at St. Andrews and the reservation site would not let us. 🤔 So we just left and went back to Grayton. That left our site at St. Andrews open for 2 days. 😮
I’m not 100% sure, but I think that for the Fl state parks, once you are within a day of scheduled arrival, or already there, the modification can no longer be made online, but can be with a phone call. We experienced this recently. When the Daytona 500 was moved to Monday because of a weather delay, we had to delay our arrival at Tomoka State Park by one day. When I tried to make that change on Sunday (1 day ahead) as soon as the race change was announced, I couldn’t do it online. But, I called the phone number and they took care of it. I got my partial refund, and somebody else got that night at Tomoka (I know because we arrived early on Tuesday and had to wait for them to leave.). I was pleased the site got used. Moral of the story, if you encounter a similar problem in the future, a phone call might work even when the web site does not. Thanks for watching!
I get what you are saying, but it's more of a win win LOSE situation. You don't have anyone next to you... win. The RV Park gets their money for no extra work... win. But what about those people who really need somewhere to stay that night? They are struggling to find a place... any place that can accommodate them... very big LOSE! Also... if you feel cramped at an RV park, it's because you are in a place that parks motorhomes very close to each other... don't give them your business and maybe they will realize they need to give people some space.

We make sure we cancel any reservation we have, whether or not we are getting any money back. It's just the right thing to do.

Some kind of sanction is definitely needed, if simple kindness is not enough of a motivation for some people.
