  • I show you how I last a brick windowsill. I teach how to lay out the brick work and see how many brick you need using a brick ruler. Next I show how I spread and head the mortar for the brick. Then I teach you how I set the brick in the windowsill. Once I lay all the brick I show you how to point the windowsill using a plastic pointer. The last thing I do is brush it down and wipe the excess mortar off with a rag to clean it up nice. Thanks for watching!!

    Below sills should have flashing.

Here’s another tip bud. For brick work its better to use a bit smaller of a trowel. That shovel is good for block not brick. And especially not when your doing tight work like that. My preferred trowel is a 9-9.5” rose amber handle trowel for brick work. Mine was 9.5 but is worn down to around 8.25 now lol it’s super fast for brick and doesn’t kill the wrists when you get to be 37 like me and still at it lol

shouldn't you have 15 degree down slope on that sill so water drains? Otherwise you could get pooling

I’m just learning but here in the Midwest most builders won’t allow brick for window sill anymore . How much slope is on those it’s hard to tell in the video. Builders here want a solid piece of stone or concrete that looks like stone. The builders claim to many joints that allow water and to much maintenance in the future when using brick .The guy I just started work for charges the same and laying a single stone or concrete only takes a couple minutes tops so he likes it better also . Love your videos keep them coming.

More pitch on sill is better to drain water.

Joints on any internal masonry angles should be finished flat and flush not tooled with a jointer. Same thing for joints internal for a corner on brick or block.

Looks good should have mentioned when determining what number you're going to use on the ruler make sure you leave a joint at the end and the other thing I was taught to fill those holes in the brick when you're doing a window sill I usually use a three-quarter inch piece of wood to follow for the overhang but that works

None of your perp joints are full. Why not just make full perp joints in the first place, rather than going back with your pointer and kind of "half" filling them? Also, where is your flashing and your weep holes?
