I'm hooked! Ive made 7 in 3 days, and I'm sure my local hardware store manager is wondering why he can't keep clothesline in stock all of a sudden! I just made a huge 14 x 14 one with no fabric, but I did wrap my joints with unbleached muslin, and it blended in perfectly. Thank you for your clear, concise, and entertaining videos!

Hi, Patti. I just wanted to say I've made several rope projects now, including this beautiful storage basket, from watching your video tutorials. Rope was never on my radar until I happened to come across your videos. You're an outstanding teacher with a warm disposition. Everything I've made so far has come out just lovely. I'm enjoying learning what you're sharing with the rest of us. THANK YOU!
My wife loves to make things, and it drives me crazy. We have each made baskets from cedar bark and grasses; yet, now I can me this rope basket. I think it will be great for storing out of season clothes, and another couple for packing to camp! Thank you, Crafty Patti. No I'm not related to Jen.
Thank you so much for the vertical-side technique tip (on avoiding the bowl shape) from about 15:30-16:37. It is exactly what I needed and SO appreciated. Brilliant!

Thanks for laughing with me. Computer work and sewing getting mixed up in my brain. My other big one for sewing is calling it the pressure foot instead of the presser foot. Got to laugh, right!
Thank you, very much. I really loved your tutorial. It is very pleasant to watch it. Seems like it is easy to imitate the way you handle the material and the machine, that everyone is sure to be able to do the basket with ease. Your voice is nice and the music too.
I NEVER comment to videos but for yours, I just had to! You are a delight to watch and listen to. I am a huge fan of rope baskets and always wonder how they were done. Thank you!
Wow, I was glued the whole time. It is so nice to see someone who has spent enough time to become a master. You are also an excellent teacher. I can’t wait to make one of these. Thank you so much!
What an excellent tutorial this was. I thought this was hot glued together, then when I saw your sewing machine, I thought what in the hec! No way can a big basket like that be sewn on a machine. But by golly, you proved me wrong real quick. I am so going to try this. I'll make a smaller one to practice. No doubt mine won't be shaped as beautifully as yours. But practice will make perfect. Patti, you always manage to demonstrate how easy the projects are. This time the cotton cord basket are wonderfully quite demystified and anyone with a simple sewing can do and thanks to you.
This is the first project I have watched by you. I have made rope bowls before and frankly, gave up! Starting them was just way more than what I wanted to do!! BUT, you have shown me a clever way to get the darned things started - not like the other YT videos I have watched where they showed zigzagging from the beginning. So, since I have everything to make one, I am going to start on this tomorrow. Thank you.
Wow you were really busy! I want to try this n I hope I end up doing as good a job as Patti n I’m sure you have done... you wouldn’t give them as gifts if you weren’t happy with the end product!! I love these baskets n would like to maybe a few this next year for my girls n their pets toys also!! Wish me luck !!!
Wonderful tutorial…. Liked the way you showed all the tips & tricks to make this basket…especially the measurement of the cord to make handles , beforehand… so that there is no mistake, or running short of cord…. Thank you.🙏🙏

Great video, clear instructions and addressing all issues that may come up. I’ve been making twine from old clothes, and will try a basket...zero cost except for thread!
First time watching this I I’d like to compliment you on your instructions. They are so impressive! I’m a very very visual person and ask a ton of questions and every time a question popped in my head you literally were answering it. Thanks so much!
I love how you did this, it really came out beautiful, I use an all from a chop stick that I sharpen and I've coated in a plastic dip rubber coating on one end to help me guide things through the machine and it works great.
Hi Patty! I've been making rope bowls for awhile now. Right now I'm working on my first rug (ugh). I've learned a few things. First of all, you don't have to be so careful with the wrap. If the end sticks up it will probably be caught in the zig zag of the next round. If not, you can clip it off when you finish the bowl/basket. It takes more thread, but, if you wrap the fabric around the rope and sew it down before you begin the bowl it's much easier to sew. When putting two rope ends together let the fabric wrap extend off the end of the rope about 1/4 in. then lay the join on top of the already sewn rope. (You will have to cut the fabric to get the join to go together smoothly.) The 1/4 in of the already sewn rope goes underneath. The join is smooth and you don't need to fight with that tape. Good video!
Thanks for sharing your tips Sue. Yes, the more we all make the baskets the more we learn more tips. Me too! Always a bit tricky when teaching a video on deciding the best and easier way to demonstrate.
@@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts I know! I've made tutorial videos too on the rope bowls. I don't think I'll ever make another rug. They are just too hard to handle.
Just found your channel. I wish I found you sooner! You are an excellent teacher. Your attention to detail is great. Thank you. Can't wait to start making them.
Thank you for a great tutorial, Patti! I have made a few rope baskets, but none this big! I have been using 100% cotton rope and I have my zigzag set at 5.0 mm wide and 2.0 mm long, which might add some extra stiffness to them. It sure uses a lot of thread! :)
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. 100% cotton rope is the best for sure. Depending on the look you want, you can certainly change up the length of your stitch. If I want an even looking zigzag when using contrasting thread then I will go to 4.5. For the first few rounds it makes it much easier if the length is shorter. It’s a pretty effect when the length is short like your 2 setting but as you said, it uses lots of thread. Good thing thread is not too expensive.
Love this video thank you for sharing! I think I’ll be using the term back space now! I haven’t used my machine in quite a while I’ve forgotten... how to find some sewing machine tutorials lol
Wow, you are so crystal clear with your instructions. I am bad with instructions but you made it so simple. I understood everything you said. I am going to get supplies and start my basket. You really are the best teacher I have ever had the honor to meet! Keep up the great work! Thank you.
Linda you are so sweet. Almost made me cry happy tears. It’s great to hear that I’m on the right track and make it understandable. I want others to have successful projects and be happy with the results. Thanks so much for your wonderful support. Have fun making your baskets!
Just found your channel, thank you so much for such a great video. I can't wait to start my first basket and can already envision all kinds of baskets both for myself as well as gifts!
Fabulous instruction. I made this about 3 1/2 years ago and loved it. It was the first rope basket I ever made. Unfortunately lost it in a fire, so I plan to remake it again.
Oh no! So sorry to hear there was a fire. I’m glad you were safe! Enjoy making your basket again and hopefully this one will survive for a very long time.
This is perfect. Exactly what I was looking for. I am redoing my bedroom and want a big basket for blankets. This tutorial is great and easy to follow. I can't wait to get the materials and start sewing. Maybe I'll make one for laundry too. So many possibilities. I like that the fabric can be customized to my decor. But I really like the simple black and white look you have with your basket.
Glad you found me Krystal! Your right! They have so many uses and you can make it fit your decor for sure. Sometimes less is more. Enjoy making your baskets!
I'm not sure why you showed up in my youtube feed but I'm thrilled that you did! I am a paper crafter not a sewer but you have inspired me to give this a try. Thanks!
This was a great tutorial! Thank you!!! The only question I have is, did you use a special needle and/or presser foot??? Also, I am glad for the part where you ran out of bobbin thread. Had I not seen how well you handled that, I might lose hope altogether.
Just an all purpose needle or you can use a denim or leather needle as well for a bit more strength. Just a regular presser foot is used. You will be refilling the bobbin lots!
Hello Patti....I have subscribed to your channel, first time watching. I have thoroughly enjoyed listening and watching your instructions. I’m a quilter and love sewing. I want to do this rope basket project. I have a million quilts to make, but, would like to know that I gave this a try. You are an excellent instructor. ❤️
First i would like to thank you for this amazing tutorial ! I was searching a new craft to learn , and this is a solutely a great project to do ! Second , if i can ask , what kind of needle do you use ? Is it regular one we use for quilting cotton fabrics or we need another special one ? Thank you !
Glad you found a project you will enjoy! You can use what you have but I like to use a jeans or leather needle so it’s a bit stronger. Will hold up better.
Translation: Thanks to! Beautiful!!! Everything was shown in detail. I want to repeat that too! Добро пожаловать. Рад, что вам понравилось видео. Your welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video
I have to wonder if you were an art teacher at school or something. You seem like a really good and efficient instructor. It was simple to follow along. Thank you for sharing!
I actually did think of doing that but didn’t have the education behind me to do it. I have always found jobs with an art aspect to it. Was a hair stylist for many years and graphic prep artist. Then wasted my skills at a government job for many years. My son finally talked me into starting this UA-cam Channel as he knew how much arts and crafts was my passion. Never thought I would be good enough at it. But now I feel its the best decision I have ever made. To hear comments like yours makes me so happy and I thank you for that. It gives me the confidence to continue on this journey and share with others around the world. I guess you could say the world is now my classroom. And that is absolutely amazing to me in so many ways!
This is a really nice & well made basket. Would be great for dirty laundry or laundry basket. Not huge or too small. Just right. Great job. Thanks for sharing your video with all of us.

Great idea about covering the rope with muslin! I still have a hard time joining the rope!

You can do it!
Thanks!
Well, I’m glad I showed up! Always fun to try a new craft.

It will make a cute storage box and matching with the decor will be perfect.
I love your black & beige rope basket.

@@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts always welcome
Wow I love this basket. Now I know what I will make my grand daughters ( 6 ), for Christmas this year. Thank you for sharing. Ann. from Va.
Yes, they make great toy bins!
