I'm hooked! Ive made 7 in 3 days, and I'm sure my local hardware store manager is wondering why he can't keep clothesline in stock all of a sudden! I just made a huge 14 x 14 one with no fabric, but I did wrap my joints with unbleached muslin, and it blended in perfectly. Thank you for your clear, concise, and entertaining videos!
Your very welcome. They are indeed very addicting. Once you make one you got to make another one. Glad your having fun with it.
Have you tried dyeing the rope?
Great idea about covering the rope with muslin! I still have a hard time joining the rope!
@@emiliewelch9395 I don't see any reason why you couldn't. Use fabric dye and it should look beautiful!

You are a natural instructor, this was exactly what I wanted to learn and now I know it is not beyond my sewing skills. Thank-you!
Thanks so much Jen for your lovely comment. Appreciate that.
Aahhh. You are so kind.
Agreed. Natural instructor. I not only can follow the instructions but I feel as if I understand the “why” of the process which makes me comfortable with coming up with my own variations. Awesome!
@@monikapitts3982 I totally agree with your comment.
I’m in love with this project. The way you explain everything is just perfect. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you so much!
This is the 17th rope basket video that I’ve viewed, I don’t need to watch any more….this is a perfect, very good sight lines, essential information in well measured delivery…ticks all my boxes for an excellent tutorial.🎉
Wow, thank you!
I'm still going through a few video's myself. About to watch this one...
Oh my gosh...I broke out in laughter when I heard you say "back space!" Certainly """NOT"" laughing AT you...but with you. I do the same thing!! Thank you for making this basket. I am so inspired I am going to do this too! I loved your macrame coaster clip and now I can't decide which to do first. THANK YOU AGAIN!! Be well.
Thanks for laughing with me. Computer work and sewing getting mixed up in my brain. My other big one for sewing is calling it the pressure foot instead of the presser foot. Got to laugh, right!
EXCELLENT DIRECTIONS THANK YOU!!!!!
This is the first project I have watched by you. I have made rope bowls before and frankly, gave up! Starting them was just way more than what I wanted to do!! BUT, you have shown me a clever way to get the darned things started - not like the other YT videos I have watched where they showed zigzagging from the beginning. So, since I have everything to make one, I am going to start on this tomorrow. Thank you.
Well I’m glad you found me and I have inspired you to try again. Here’s to lots of successful baskets for you.
I’m only about 10mins in. But omg! What a wonderful tutorial! Thank you so much! I can’t want to make some baskets!
Yeah! Glad your enjoying the tutorial.
Wow Patti that is absolutely beautiful ! Thank you so much for this video
This is one of the best tutorials that I have watched. Thank you!!
Thanks so much for the supportive comment and thanks for watching!
Totally agree! I'll probably never have the opportunity to make one of these but I sure as heck know exactly how if I ever change my mind. Excellent teaching.
Thanks so much!
I Love how you finished it off with your “Style”... the beads are a beautiful touch!
Thanks Poppy. Glad you liked the bead finish.
Fabulous instruction. I made this about 3 1/2 years ago and loved it. It was the first rope basket I ever made. Unfortunately lost it in a fire, so I plan to remake it again.
Oh no! So sorry to hear there was a fire. I’m glad you were safe! Enjoy making your basket again and hopefully this one will survive for a very long time.
Oh my goodness I’ve made three things a basket, two matching mats and a bread bowl! This is brilliant and thank you so much for great tutorial, such clear instructions.
Wonderful! Your on a roll! A bit of a pun there. bread roll. lol.
Love the way you sew! Your basket is perfect and so neat! Thank you for the great tutorial!
Thanks for your lovely comment!
Thank you so much for such a detailed tutorial on rope baskets. I saw videos last year that you had done and made quite a few small ones. Now I'm ready to tackle the larger ones. Thank you so much!!
Perfect! Glad your enjoying my videos! Thanks for watching! Have fun with the larger baskets. It’s very addicting!
I am so happy you shared this!!!! I am making laundry baskets for every room!
Oh wow! That will be a beautiful big basket!
What a FANTASTIC video! One of the best tutorials I've seen. Now I really want to do a rope basket, I've never thought about doing one myself. Thank you!
Thanks so much! You should make one for sure!
This is so nicely done and easy to follow. Even if I never get around to making one of these baskets, I will now fully appreciate them when I see them for sale at a farmer's market or craft fair. While the process is pretty basic, it's still a lot of work. And it's so pretty!
Thank you. Yes, there is always some time involved with homemade items but I love how you can personalize them with different colour fabrics or embellishments.
I can't wait to make this! Tomorrow I'm rushing in to the store to buy everything I need for this and make it and also to make a crochet basket! Thanks for this video! It is really helpful, inspiring and easy to understand! Thank you for your time and effort! Much love!
Yeah! I’m glad I have inspired you!
I've watched both of your rope bowls/basket videos and anxious to get going. They are outstanding and so easy to watch and follow. This basked is just awesome with the bead finish. Thank you for making them available as well as always providing the links for resources.
Glad your enjoying the rope bowl videos. Thanks for watching!
Beautifully explained! It was like undergoing an entire course on basket making 😊
I used to think that I had to produce 4 min UA-cam videos and that just wasn’t my style. So thanks for taking the time to comment and let me know that an entire course works!
Beautiful! You are very thorough and precise with your instructions making it easier for us to follow you!
I put a lot of thought into my videos so it is clear and understandable. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
Much appreciated and thanks for watching!
I love the calmness of your instructions. This is lovely. Thank you.
Thanks so much for your kind comment. I try to talk slower so everyone can understand me.
Patti, you always manage to demonstrate how easy the projects are. This time the cotton cord basket are wonderfully quite demystified and anyone with a simple sewing can do and thanks to you.
Thanks so much Sylvia. Glad my instructions work for you.
Great video. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I have seen these kinds of baskets in store, so glad for your teaching, this will be the perfect project for the coming months.
So glad you found me. Enjoy making your baskets!
I just started to make these kind of bowls/baskets and find watching all of your videos, even if redundant, is very helpful! Thanks!
Glad you like them!
I made my first basket today, it turned out pretty well…had a few gaps between cordage, but all and all I’m pleased. You are an amazing teacher. Thank you for helping me decide what to make everyone for Christmas this year!
That’s great! You can always go back and re sew the areas if there are any gaps. They make great Xmas gifts!
Thank you so much for the vertical-side technique tip (on avoiding the bowl shape) from about 15:30-16:37. It is exactly what I needed and SO appreciated. Brilliant!
Your very welcome. Glad it helped!
Love this!! I can't believe how clearly you can explain, you are a natural teacher!! I'm in love with your channel, unfortunately I don't have a sewing machine yet so I might try doing this with a fabric adhesive 😅 but I'll follow all the tips that you shared in the video 💞
Ahhh Happy that you are enjoying my channel. Some have put the baskets together with a glue gun. Or you can hand sew them as well.
Try doing it with a glue gun.
I have made a lot of these robe and fabric bowls, never one this size. And I learned things from you that I had never known or tried. Some of the things you did, I found myself saying, "Oh yes, I do that", and then a minute later I'd say, "Oh, I need to try that". Thanks for a great tutorial.
Haha. Love your comment. Glad I was able to add more to the mix on how to sew the rope baskets!
First time watching this I I’d like to compliment you on your instructions. They are so impressive! I’m a very very visual person and ask a ton of questions and every time a question popped in my head you literally were answering it. Thanks so much!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for taking the time to write this supportive comment. Much appreciated!
I love how you did this, it really came out beautiful, I use an all from a chop stick that I sharpen and I've coated in a plastic dip rubber coating on one end to help me guide things through the machine and it works great.
Sounds like you made a cool chopstick tool to aid in your sewing projects!
This is beautiful, cant wait to try this! Thank you for sharing with us.
Thanks and your very welcome!
Saw many videos on making baskets with rope and hot glue. But this one is amazing and what I exactly wish for
So glad!
Thank you for this large basket tutorial. i have made smaller bowls but wanted to try a larger basket. i love the way you ended it with the knots and beads. That has been a struggle in the past. Awesome tutorial Patti. i am going to a retreat this week-end and this is going to be one project i work on and finish. Thank you again.
Your very welcome! Enjoy the retreat!
Thank you Patti, that was very helpful and really informative. I particularly love your pace. Now I want to try make one .

I love watching you craft. So gentle and a natural. Love your baskets thank you for sharing.🌺
Glad you are enjoying my videos! Thanks so much for supporting my channel!
Hi Patti, you are a god sent. Earlier this morning I was wondering how to made this type basket. I went to Amazon and saw the baskets but I thought I will try and made this bag. Later today I pulled up UA-cam to look for something else and there you were with the basket making it.The bag is beautiful.
Perfect! I’m so glad you found me on UA-cam and soon you will be making lots of big baskets!
Thank you so much for this video! I want to make a really big one for my room to store my throw blankets when I'm not using them
Perfect! Enjoy your sewing project.
I love the soft music in the background! It helps me concentrate on this great tutorial that is so easy to fellow along with! Thank you
I use music to fill dead air. I always try and keep it at a low level so it’s not annoying.
That’s great. 20 minutes isn’t long at all!
This is just what I was looking for for some skilled guidance in making a laundry basket! Thanks so much!!
Your very welcome. Glad you found me!
I like that you showed us techniques to keep your work in check. I love this basket and have been wanting to make one someday.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Much appreciated.
Thank you soooooo much for this tutorial! This is one of the best I have ever watched. I needed the specific details you provided since I am new to sewing with a machine. Thank you!!
Your very welcome Candice. Glad I could help.
That is beautiful!! Thank you so much for the instructions!
Your very welcome!
Just wanted to thank you for your (a) really well described/explained instructions and (b) providing suggestions and instructions for something really useful! I'm English and usually feel the difference between our cultures and language but you seem to bridge this beautifully! Enough compliments! But more thanks.
Thank you so much for your lovely compliment. Much appreciated! Glad you enjoyed the video instruction.
Great video, clear instructions and addressing all issues that may come up. I’ve been making twine from old clothes, and will try a basket...zero cost except for thread!
Perfect! Nice to have free items and make something useful from it. O
Amazing! Congrats for that beautiful job! I' m trying to do one for me ❤️ THANK YOU VERY MUCH
You can do it!
Just found your channel, thank you so much for such a great video. I can't wait to start my first basket and can already envision all kinds of baskets both for myself as well as gifts!
Glad you found me. Oh yes, once you make your first one you won’t be able to stop. Guaranteed!
This project is fabulous. Starting the coil using the cross stitching was brilliant! Love the use of the beads also.
Glad you loved this video. Thanks for watching!
I’ve been seeing these baskets on one of my Facebook groups but haven’t even thought about making one until I watched your video. Great job explaining everything. I’m going to give it a try! Thank you.
Your very welcome and thanks for watching!
This is perfect. Exactly what I was looking for. I am redoing my bedroom and want a big basket for blankets. This tutorial is great and easy to follow. I can't wait to get the materials and start sewing. Maybe I'll make one for laundry too. So many possibilities. I like that the fabric can be customized to my decor. But I really like the simple black and white look you have with your basket.
Glad you found me Krystal! Your right! They have so many uses and you can make it fit your decor for sure. Sometimes less is more. Enjoy making your baskets!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I’ll be trying this soon!
Your very welcome! Enjoy making your baskets!
Thank you so much for this tutorial, I absolutely love these baskets. I am now going to make my own. You are a wonderful instructor.
Thanks so much Micheline for the wonderful comment. Much appreciated!
Thank you Patti! I love these baskets but they're so expensive. Now because of you they are attainable for me and a couple of great friends.

Thank you Patti, you inspired me and I'm now hooked. Made about a dozen so far. Sending to relations for gifts.
Oh that’s so great! So glad I inspired you! I’m sure everyone will love them.
Wow you were really busy! I want to try this n I hope I end up doing as good a job as Patti n I’m sure you have done... you wouldn’t give them as gifts if you weren’t happy with the end product!! I love these baskets n would like to maybe a few this next year for my girls n their pets toys also!! Wish me luck !!!
Wow, I am blown over on how neat your basket looks
Well thank you very much!
Excellent! I love these rope baskets. Now I can make them myself with custom colors and sizes. Thank you for showing me how! ❤️❤️❤️
You are so welcome. Enjoy making lots of baskets!
Wow, great video! I wish my grandma was still here to teach me to sew 💕UA-cam tutorials will do instead. Thank you so much!
Grandmas are the best! Years ago my grandma had sewed a whole wardrobe for my Barbie doll. Will never forget that.
@@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts they truly are!! Aww that is so sweet!
Brittany your Grandma will be looking over your shoulder. I was in hospital very very unwell but hell bent on trying to get better so I thought on my way to the bathroom on my own for the first time in weeks. With my push along thing, the kind you get whilst staying towel slung over plus all bits needed a shout disturbed me. Stephanie you have a golden aura it’s huge!!! A very quick turnaround from me and a nurse making beds with a Colleague had stopped all noise. Sorry I’ve seen it on you before when you were very poorly but it’s huge now. I knew who it was looking after me. My adorable Nan. My brother died from what I had. Pneumonia. She stole my heart that nurse...
This was fantastic. Thank you!
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching!
Wow this can be for plants too. It's very fashionable at the moment. Thanks and GOD bless.
Your very welcome! Many uses for sure!

Ahhh, Thank you so much Beatrice. It was nice of you to take the time to comment.
Hi, Patti. I just wanted to say I've made several rope projects now, including this beautiful storage basket, from watching your video tutorials. Rope was never on my radar until I happened to come across your videos. You're an outstanding teacher with a warm disposition. Everything I've made so far has come out just lovely. I'm enjoying learning what you're sharing with the rest of us. THANK YOU!
Aahh. Thank you so much Melissa for taking the time to write such a lovely comment. Much appreciated! Glad your enjoying my videos!
I thought this was crocheted! Its nice to know I could also use a sewing machine. The techniques you shown in this vid were very helpful!
Yes, the zig zag on the sewing machine works great to make this basket! Thanks for watching.
Patty, you are FANTASTIC! I could learn anything from you. Eventually, I will make my first rope bowl and now I don't feel anxious about my learning curve. Thanks so much!
No need to be anxious. Just give it a try. If you make a mistake than practice and try again. You will get the hang of it.
Beautiful product, clear n precise instructions. Thank you very much.
Your very welcome!
Oh wow!! I love this!! I wasn't even looking for this but now that I've seen it I absolutely want to try it! 😃 Thank you so much for the super instructions - I wouldn't have had a clue!
Glad you found me. Give it a try for sure.
😂 Me too, I didn't look for it and didn't even know before that I need such a basket. Now, I do and will give it a try.

Love this video thank you for sharing! I think I’ll be using the term back space now! I haven’t used my machine in quite a while I’ve forgotten... how to find some sewing machine tutorials lol
Computers and sewing machines intermixing. Lol. Back space, back stitch. Haha. Thanks for watching.
I just use "reverse" 😀
Thank you Patti !!!
You're a natural teacher.
Aahh. Thanks so much for the lovely comment.
You really do fantastic job explaining each step. Thank you!
Ahh thanks Jade. Appreciate your positive comment!
I wouldn't have had the courage to tackle a large basket like this without seeing your video! Thank you so much for taking the time to make a video and share your work with us! 🥰
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for a great tutorial, Patti! I have made a few rope baskets, but none this big! I have been using 100% cotton rope and I have my zigzag set at 5.0 mm wide and 2.0 mm long, which might add some extra stiffness to them. It sure uses a lot of thread! :)
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. 100% cotton rope is the best for sure. Depending on the look you want, you can certainly change up the length of your stitch. If I want an even looking zigzag when using contrasting thread then I will go to 4.5. For the first few rounds it makes it much easier if the length is shorter. It’s a pretty effect when the length is short like your 2 setting but as you said, it uses lots of thread. Good thing thread is not too expensive.

Wow thank God I came across this. Will definitely get a sewing machine 💯
So glad you found me too! Have fun buying your machine and sewing up lots of baskets!
I've made small bags and have wanted to make a big one and this is beautiful and now I'm going to try a big one using your instructions, love the way you finished it off! Thank you!
The rope bowls are so addictive. Hard to stop at just a couple. Enjoy making your large basket. Thanks for watching!
First i would like to thank you for this amazing tutorial ! I was searching a new craft to learn , and this is a solutely a great project to do !
Second , if i can ask , what kind of needle do you use ? Is it regular one we use for quilting cotton fabrics or we need another special one ?
Thank you !
Glad you found a project you will enjoy! You can use what you have but I like to use a jeans or leather needle so it’s a bit stronger. Will hold up better.
Thank you for this excellent tutorial!!! BJ
BJ7481 love it.
Thank you. I have made quite a few smaller ones and you gave me the tips to make them large and keep them with straighter sides.
Perfect. Enjoy making your larger baskets!
Ohhhhh myyyyy goshhh....that is beautiful. Great tutorial. My Hussie is being repaired, but will try this .. .I've only done small baskets and coasters with 3/16 " clothesline. Thank you.
You are so welcome! Enjoy sewing up some big baskets when your machine is repaired!
Hello Patti....I have subscribed to your channel, first time watching. I have thoroughly enjoyed listening and watching your instructions. I’m a quilter and love sewing. I want to do this rope basket project. I have a million quilts to make, but, would like to know that I gave this a try. You are an excellent instructor. ❤️
Aahhh! Thanks for watching and subscribing! I love working with fabrics too. Enjoy making a rope basket!
This was a great tutorial! Thank you!!! The only question I have is, did you use a special needle and/or presser foot??? Also, I am glad for the part where you ran out of bobbin thread. Had I not seen how well you handled that, I might lose hope altogether.
Just an all purpose needle or you can use a denim or leather needle as well for a bit more strength. Just a regular presser foot is used. You will be refilling the bobbin lots!

Omg! this turned out gorgeous! me watching this video in the part when you flip the bottom to start forming the walls was: Gosh! she is a queen! that's it! lol. So doing this, I've saved that cotton rope for so long now and finally i feel sure how to do the basket lol
