Having spoken to them at the early listening, this whole album was a “we wanna do this so we did it” they were listening to heaps of different music between the 5 of them and all put that into the album. For me I really like it, they said it would be pretty controversial but I think they’re expecting the divide on this one
Also wild fact Mat told me was brainwashed was their least successful album so it’s funny to see people being like “ahh bring brainwashed back”
brainwashed is like my most listened to album by them by far. i really love that this album didn't try to replicate the success of their obvious more successful records. the album is it's own thing.
I mean that's cool and I'm fine with people doing what they want to do but it seems like a disrespectful slap in the face to a band or an artist 's fan base when shit like this is quite literally just shit into their lap with a message of well we wanted to do what we wanted to do fuck all of you! Attached to it... Like beyond it being obviously childish, it really shows the type of people you're dealing with when you find people like that. Their old music is still there to listen to so just don’t listen to this album and go listen to their old stuff instead.

No an artist is not your personal lapdog. You have the PRIVILEGE of getting to listen to what they want to produce. That's it. If you don't like it, that's okay, other people will. You are replacable. And you especially are not wanted. An artist has to do what they like or else it'll be unloved shit. That's the whole sentiment of why metal tends to be anti-mainstream, because they don't love their own product.

How on earth is it disrespectful to us as fans? As you stated, they literally owe nothing to us. Tbh based on singles i didnt think id like the album but i actually enjoyed it more than i expected

To The Flowers was the only reason I even bought the album. Still the best song on the album. It sounds like a WSS song while still being different enough to be experimental.
ok so WSS is one of my favorite bands ever and also ties with Our Mirage for most often seen on stage. You Are We was one of the first albums i decided to actually buy and put on my shelf.
When So What? came out, i was kind of disappointed, but today i believe it might be even better than You Are We.
Sleeps Society has some banger tracks in the first half, but non-special edition doesn't have enough 'real' songs imo. Special Edition is good, even though i don't understand all those instrumentals and interludes.
This new album kinda feels like sleeps society but with less actually great songs in between. If you just squashed both of them into one, it could be really good i think. But in this form it just didn't really catch me.
That being said, as a fan, i am happy they are in a position to actually make such an album and experiment in all the ways they want to. Also doesnt change the fact they are one of the best, maybe THE best, band i've seen so far.
The mix sounds like the audio is coming from a phone in a pot.
bands has better sound quality 15 years ago, even small nowadays bands sound is fat and chonky

Yeah. This is really painful, especially compared to the recent releases from Polaris, The Plot In You or Silent Planet. My first WSS was 'You Are We', which has also very mid mixing imo, but sounds good compared to this! :/

You Are We did set a bar so high that at this point I don't expect it ever to be reached by WSS unfortunately. Really enjoyed So What?, have barely any memories about Sleeps Society, and this one... it isn't necessarily terrible, it's just easily forgettable to me.

So What? is one of my favorite albums tbf, not just metalcore, but in general. This one is, eh..
I also struggled to fully understand the album as a whole on first listen. Some great moments. For sure. But that’s the thing: it’s some.
I will continue to enjoy the 3-4 songs that I connected with, but unlikely to persevere with the others as much.

I feel like this is gonna be one of those albums nobody gets now, but a couple of months, or even years later, everybody is going to see the merit. Kinda like what happened to Northlane with Obsidian.
I thought Obsidian was always good. Maybe not as good as Alien but it was packed with a lot of tracks with replay value IMO.
What? People loved Obsidian when it came out.
My buddy Riley noticed that the drum part before the breakdown in Enemy Mentality and I agree with him that it might be a One Piece reference to the Drums Of Liberation which would be soooooo sick!
"Self Hell" did not land for me either. "To The Flowers" and "Down" were kind of the highlights for me, and tracks like "No Feeling Is Final" took me back to "Living Things" Era Linkin Park so I would not be surpised if they're aiming to take on that mantle as Linkin Park in its entirety plans to retire some day but this was probably the weakest WSS album to date
Fair, I liked the majority of it, the only one I skip if it comes up is the No Feeling Is Final interlude.
Is it peak, no. Is it bad, also no.
Edit: Thinking about it, a lot of the music on this album has connections to Mental Health. It's brain chemistry, the theme is brain chemistry being out of order. The big MH.
Yeah, agree. It's not their best, but not their worst either, and funnily enough, I found Self Hell probably the worst song from the whole album. Feels like lately Bogdan's and Mine taste went completely different ways 😭😭😭

I’m so confused and this comes from someone that absolutely loves WSS. Definitely not the best album, didn’t enjoy it the first time, the second time I did but it gives me the impression that is unfinished. I really hoped that this would be a huge album but I still believe that their experimentation could lead to something great
I also looove WSS and liked the second listening better than the first. I think people need to approach the album with no preconceptions. And I couldn't agree more with your take. It sounds like a logical way to go, but it feels that they haven't arrived yet... it feels unfinished but I'm excited for what's to come

I am not a big WSS fan aside from some of the previous singles. But I loved this album. To me it was literally about being in "self hell". It's very angry, sad, and sarcastic. I don't know, something about it really touched me though I understand from the viewpoint of past while she sleep music, why most people would be very confused about this release.

I think you absolutely hate or absolutely love it.
I get why people don't like it and i also dont like all songs. But it definitely has character in my opinion and most songs are very distinguishable WSS.
The one song I thought you were gonna dunk on you ended up liking. Man I don't know what to think anymore haha. I actually ended up enjoying this album more than I expected. One or two songs that are a bit meh but otherwise some seriously good riffage.

I have only given this one listen through. I was in the gym so actually paying attention to it was hard….but that’s my secret…listen to a new album in the gym first….once I give it a 2nd listen I’ll be able to enjoy it without every song sounding foreign to me! Then I’ll be able to pick out what I like and dislike better because my brain has already listened to it.
I really liked this album, it is kind of different and experimental in a weird but good way. I can understand people not liking it, but I think people should open their minds a little more and stop thinking of a band as only "metalcore"
This is exactly the thing with Sleeps. They aren't just metalcore anymore, they're not some cookie-cutter standard hurr durr muddy heavy band, they've been playing with loads of styles in the past few years and people should just respect that at the bare minimum
Disliking this album isn't about having a closed mind lmao what, I had never really listened to while she sleeps before this album and I thought it was bad. It's bland, the mix is really weird, the lyrics are some of the worst I've heard this year, the vocals feel really grating, and there is a fake and overproduced (almost synthetic) sound to it. Nothing wrong with liking the album, nothing wrong with hating the album either. It's got nothing to do with having an "open mind". You either like it or you don't.
@@moltentheoryx3332 That's the case for you though. A lot of other people are long time Sleeps fans or whatever and think that it was crap simply because it wasn't the same album for the 7th time. It happens a lot, Thornhill suffered the exact same thing, even Bring Me The Horizon have.

It's just how you found the album. Clearly you love it seeing as you jump to defend it on every single comment in the comments section, and that's okay.

Хоча декілька треків мали непоганий потенціал, але продакшн такий, наче пісні порожні, та ж 'To The Flowers' - доволі емоційна пісня і клип, але коли вона звучить наче з дінаміка китайського телефона, то неможливо її порівняти наприклад з таким ж емоційним 'Nervous'

I enjoyed this album, it had to do some growing on me but over all good stuff. AOTY? Probably not, between WSS having better material and Erra and Alpha Wolf are releasing stuff soon.
I think if you listen to it for what it is and not what you want it to be, it’s really enjoyable.
But I think that goes for a lot of bands these days. Looking for ‘four wall’ style songs is the key example.
Can’t expect an artist not to grow and want to try new things. I feel like sometimes people come in here with a negative mindset and it becomes less of a first listen/reaction and more gunning for criticism.

I agree, you have to let a group or artist try new things! However, the mix of this album is just strange! Songs are a different average volume, levels are all over the place and the pacing/transitioning is a bit strange.

An intense intro that doesn't flow into track 2 at all (that alone would have probably been enough to make me actually LIKE Leave Me Alone to be honest) two 3 minute interludes, a weird acoustic album closer, it's just a really weird album for me. Combined with the fact they've actively used fan disappointment in their marketing for this album makes me think they lack a bit of direction without a record label, some will love it but not me

WSS being my favorite band (and omg their live performance :O !), I'm sooo disappointed by this album. I get the point of trying new things, innovate, etc. But this is not even original, that is the most hurtful aspect of it to me. It's a consolidation of random songs that have almost nothing in common, 0% consistent. The best part of the album only lasts 30s and it is the end of "Enemy Mentality" with this percussion/synth. Trying to dig this percussion vibe is a good example of what could have been a true identity for an album (as well as the mix pop/metal of Self Hell song that I like a lot). Without this identity, this new album will be immediatly forgotten. It's OK no one can produce albums that will each time satisfy 100% of listeners. Let's fait for new WSS albums and let potential new fans enjoying this one :)
Yeah this record is the most weird stuff they make, but its good on its way, give a 7.5/10.
I actually really like the album, the only bad parts for me:
- the interludes. I think everyone knows the disappointment of an interlude and I think they can work, but only if they actually transition songs really well, but in this case they only fill the space and don't really relate to the other songs, and they are also 3 minutes long.
- repeated lyrics for choruses
- I didn't really think about this until Bogdan pointed it out, but, yeah, slightly cringy lyrics
point 2 doesn't make sense to me, its a chorus, its obviously going to have the same thing
@@nihilichen what I mean is that for example the Leave Me Alone chorus is just "Leave me the fuck alone" x4 or x8 and Self Hell is "Let's praise the love"

I actually really enjoyed this album. Not their best by a long shot, but solid and still has that While She Sleeps fire to it.

I really didn't like this album. If the album had the same effort put in like To The Flowers, Out of the Blue, and Enemy Mentality, it would have been a solid release. On first listen, the first track I liked was literally No Feeling Is Final which is an interlude lol.
Im not totally sure what they were going for here. It just doesn't hit. The first time that's happened with wss for me.
Vocals are high on being low the whole album
While She Sleeps somehow reminds me a lot of Protest the Hero in a sense that we can tell the guys are insanely talented musicians and they have a few good songs here and there but they don't sound very musical overall. Kinda feels like a bunch of noises put together and that's it 😔

You Are We is one of my favourite metalcore album, and knowing what WSS becomes now is kinda sad.
I got new headphones right when TTF came out as a single and i almost immediately returned them when i heard how deflated the guitars sounded, not realizing it was just the mix

Probably not going to go down as one my favorite WSS albums but it definitely has its moments.
I was at work and saw they released a new album and like what the heck il just try it out, so i listened to it front to back, the only song i previously heard was TO THE FLOWERS which i enjoyed. I dont think I enjoyed a single song other than that one. I was utterly confused by the album in its entirety. Clearly not for me and thats fine, they have other music thats amazing.
I knew from the get go that the discourse around this album would be a shit show for a large part but then I listened and I'm absolutely in the minority here, but I really like the album. I see why people dont like it but it just pushes some right buttons for me
Off to see them do some of these songs acoustic at a signing today and I'm hoping they'll translate better there than on the album ... There's some really good stuff in this album but then in most all the songs it's surrounded by stuff I just can't gel with, shame really
As someone who considers WSS to be their favourite band this album honestly disappointed me a little bit. Some solid tracks but overall I was massively let down.

Not a fan of this neither, also i dont like how the band pre-defended the album so much since the first single saying that this is a "change in sound and if you dont like it, it is fine", like they knew the album would fail, it feels super forced. Also, for me, it is not that much of a change, they used the same kind of synths before, the songs are just not well putted together.
I want to like this album, I love WSS, but....I just can't man.
The singles are great imo, I really like Self-Hell and To The Flowers alot, but the rest of the album is VERY meh...
At least you can really hear that they wanted this sound, and stuck with it, and I am really happy for them that they always make the music they wanna make in this moment.
I will still love the band, love the old records, go to shows, and support them where ever their journey takes them!
And let's be honest: All the songs will slap live, cause the band just slaps live.

Bro Enemy Mentality breakdown will absolutely slap live. I gotta say i personally really enjoyed the actual songs (dont really care about the interludes too much) even though the sound is very different
For what it is, the album is good. There's nothing super irredeemable about this as some people try to claim, there's definitely enough fun here.
However, I understand the criticism and agree that this may be their worst album to date. Sleeps Society was such a good album and then they step down to this. The production is weird, the strcuture is odd and idk, there's just not enough to hold it together properly.
Kudos for While She Sleeps for changing things up, but it kinda didn't work too well. I like WILDFIRE, ENEMY MENTALITY, TO THE FLOWERS and RADICAL HATRED tho and I'm in the minority that likes LEAVE ME ALONE lol

There are already bands doing better versions of this style, like Avoid and Ocean Grove. Heck, even Code Orange tried this late 90s direction to various degrees of success--and failure. I don't think it's wrong to try, but I think you REALLY need to make it stand out from the others doing this.
I'm a big Ocean Grove fan, this isn't sleeps trying to do that style at all.
@@nihilichenWell, my ears tell me differently. The late 90s/early 2000s Rap-alternative rock/metal on Flip Phone Fantasy and some of the tracks here are in the same wheelhouse.

This feels very amauter. Voice sometimes is low and the songs seems from a first album of a emo band back in 2005.
Reading these lyrics after experiencing an album like Death is Little More just shows you all songwriters are not created equally 😂 these lyrics are rough
The thing i dislike the most is the fact that While she sleeps (especially Sean) can't take any criticism. They just get mad and repeat the bad lines people say and try to make fun of it like little children...
Rainbows for me is probably the best song on the album. Down and Self Help are bangers and I enjoyed Enemy Mentality and To the Flowers as well, but the rest is kinda meh. Total agree about the album just sounds like aa bunch of songs. There is no flow to it what so ever.
I thought it was great !! I think we're used to the over production of modern production and this is a little more natural I guess! I love it tbh

IDK I really enjoyed this album, the variety and still hearing WSS at their core (to me at least). Interludes are a bit annoying but still enjoying it overall. 8/10
Now listen to something good, "The death and birth of an angel" by Fallingwithscissors perhaps, EP of the year might I add!
Overall, I did not enjoy this album. It's a very fake sounding album, 3 minute interludes were NOT doing it for me. Only HIGH points really were Rainbows and To The Flowers, but even then they weren't spectacular enough to raise my opinion on the album any further. I haven't listened to any WSS much either, so this also removes any nostalgic bias. The short answer is: I found this album very mediocre/bad and it was just a cringefest that felt like a fever dream.
Best Sleeps album in years. I get people want cookie cutter metalcore all the time, but this album is super fun to listen to.

The one song I liked from this album, To The Flowers, took a while to grow on me because of how off putting the mix is to me. It was only after watching the music video and listening to it multiple times that I came to appreciate for its beautiful leads and somber atmosphere.
But everything else is cheesy and the mix makes you feel like the instruments are being played from inside a submarine. I simply cannot re-listen to any of the other songs long enough to find things I like about them.
I like this album is good. Definitely better than the last 2 records wich sound generic and uninspired to me. It's different, more experimental and more catchier.
The two songs without lyrics can be skipped and the intro too, but everything else is really fun.
Except for the production wich just doesn't sound clean.
Also Self Hell is my fav song on it, I don't see where the lyrics are "cringe" tho. It's not deep, but it's a fun song and the only reason I got into While She Sleeps again, after the last two albums bored me. Also to me no album is better than "Brainwashed".
I can definitely recommend listening to the songs more often, maybe you're gonna get into it more after time.
I think the people find the song SELF HELL's lyrics cringe because they repeat on top of specific lyrics like the "gemini" lyric or the "I wanna die" lyric on top of the vocal effect on it. Unironically feels like people just view it as "ugh, too much young people", and things like "Praise the love inside of us" is a very hippy sort of lyric. I see it but I bloody love that song either way. I think I can understand LEAVE ME ALONE too, the sentence "leave me the fuck alone" definitely strikes people in different ways, it's probably the edgiest lyric of the whole album and, like with the song SELF HELL, its repeated. Unfortunately, critics of this record fixate way too much on these small things.
