This game succeeds as a spin-off. Not as a sequel because...it’s not a sequel. It did exactly what spin-offs should be; quick, fun enough, small in scope. Super easy to digest.
That’s pretty much how I feel about it overall. Even with the story’s flaws, I still found it engaging enough to get me through the game. Especially since it’s not too long.
Exactly, people are acting like it's a bad thing that it's short and brisk when it's only meant to be a smaller story with a different protagonist this time.

@@bmillz6243 Most likely 2022. Marvel’s Spider-Man took 4 years to develop, and released in 2018. After Marvel’s Spider-Man they immediately started developing Miles Morales as well as developing Spider-Man 2, and Miles is what we got this year. I’d say 2022 is probably the earliest we might get Spider-Man 2, if anything.

@@themadtitan7603 oh believe me, I still love Marcus’s content. I just like pointing fun at the fact that he has a very noticeable trend of never allowing sequels to impress him as much as originals.
The thing that broke this game’s story for me was Phin. She’s such an asshole to Miles and always acts like he’s committing some type of unbelievable crime by not telling her that he’s Spider-Man and goes on to not listen to him for the rest of the game. Like how she keeps fighting him after it’s blatantly clear he’s right about the Nuform generator at the end.
Yeah, she was huge hypocrite but I really liked her dialogue with Miles in their final fight, when she yells that "I'm done listening!" and Miles says "You never did." And he's right. She never really listened to him, she was way too lost in her quest for revenge to actually give a damn. And honestly my favorite part was when saw Miles trying to drain the reactor and saw Rick dying all over again. THAT was when she snapped out of it. That was when she realized what she was doing. And she did the right thing, even if it cost her life. And I really liked how Miles dealt with it, talking to his mom about how she saved him and everyone, but was also the one who caused that whole bullshit in the first place, but after seeing what happened with Rick he still understood why she did it, and Rio said that people are complicated, like Aron, who went to jail and saved tons of people just to do the right thing, but still did lots of bad things and Rio just can't really forgive him for that. I really liked that nuance that showed that people are REALLY complicated, and you can understand why they do things even if you don't forgive them or agree with them. It could've been done way better with Phin, definitely, I mean, she's working mostly fine with you one moment and then in the next she's trying to kill by blaming you for a bunch of things that are just the consequences of her own actions, and yeah, that was kinda forced. I get that Rhino made her snap, but still, I think we should've had at least another mission with her before she finally snapped. I get that couldn't happen because of the length of the story, but still, lowest point of the story for me. And Rio founding out Miles was Spider Man was kinda underwhelming, but nothing that really bothered me. Just wanted to see more of a reaction. Anyways, loved the story, not as good as the first one's story for obvious reasons, but anyway, really good for the time they had.
in order to understand Phin you have to stop looking at the story from one point of view. look at everything from her point of view: MILES came in and fucked up her plan to steal the Nuform AND fucked up the bridge. MILES manipulated her into getting into the Underground base. MILES kept his identity secret even though Phin explained everything about her being the Tinkerer to him. MILES indirectly got her kidnapped by telling Aaron where they were meeting. Miles deciding to be Spider-Man continuously fucks her over; hence why she just doesn't care anymore and beats him up to proceed with her plan. pay attention to characters and you'll understand them.
@@Ziaotic No, it’s really not that deep. That stuff is all very surface level. They just sucked at making her a good character. Miles does that stuff, bc he’s Spider-Man, just like she does what she does bc she’s the Tinkerer. It also took Phin being confronted on multiple occasions about being the Tinkerer until she finally gave in and told him. If you look at it from her point of view, aside from him being Spider-Man and messing her plans up, what good, concrete reason does she have to not believe him? She doesn’t. Her angst only works if there was a solid buildup to it, making it feel earned. And it just isn’t for the most part. We’re never led to believe that she’s this evil person totally consumed and blinded by revenge, but is, rather, just kind of whiny bitch. Miles heard her out for literally the entire game. She didn’t even give him the chance. Bc as soon as she did, boom, she snaps back and is evil big baddie again. And 2 missions later you’re fighting her as the final boss. Her character arc wasn’t earned or given the amount of time it needed in order to work.
He just needs more positivity in his reviews without it being sarcastic and comedic. When you go into something thinking it’s gonna suck, it will because you will only focus on the bad things. I personally love the game. That’s just my opinion though.

I can’t be the only one that actually enjoyed the story and the relationship between gainke and miles. They really do feel like best friends and it’s very believable that’s how it would be between me and my friends if we were in this situation. Idk I thought the 2 were written in very well. I don’t think there was enough time spent with phin however...the game kind of just forces this narrative with her and throws in the collectible time capsules to try and create this false sense of a connection. I think if they spent a lot more time developing that relationship the game could’ve been even better. Also, the whole thing between uncle Aaron and miles mom could’ve been super interesting to if it had a chance to be fleshed out but oh well. Game was still fun and the story was enjoyable despite some writing flaws.
The fact that you're so engrossed in the game's story to the point of willingly writing diminutive essays about it and *still* spell Ganke's name wrong floors me to no end.
Yeah don't waste your time with this opinion on the story go watch HiTops Miles morales video. He understands Spiderman alot better. ua-cam.com/video/QBIeTtwDweU/v-deo.html
I feel like there were a lot of moments, particularly in the first half where miles absorbs the energy from that Nuform reactor and then limps for like 10 seconds flat, do not hit nearly as hard as they should. It was treated like a big character defining moment but he just walks it off and it really has no impact on the story
It was to show how dangerous newform is almost killing miles and destroying everything in its path and all. Plus foreshadowing for what's to come at the end. Loved the show not tell aspect
I think you mean Ghost of Tsushima. Literally, I spent more time on the side quests than I did the actual story which I would've finished in about 20 hours.
@@GurpreetSingh-jv3od well that's because you cared for people of Tsushima most of missions logically can wait since they are attacks that can't happen without you the ghost
"Short games don't really bother me unless I really didn't have fun." Dunno, I think I'd prefer an 8 hour game that wasn't fun to an 80 hour game that wasn't fun. Less time wasted, right?
@ Is it? "short games don't bother me unless I didn't have fun"? In other words, the fact that a game is short only bothers him if it's not fun? Sounds like the opposite of what I said, but okay.
@@DarthFennec It’s not the same but it’s still kinda pointless... The time it takes to finish a game doesn’t matter if you’re not having fun because you’re probably not gonna finish it anyway. The biggest issue is probably the money spent.
I really like it, personally, but I understand and respect your opinion EDIT: I see your point about the side missions, but I actually like them. I agree, the mechanics themselves were often kinda meh, but being on the the call with Genke or someone from Harlem that you’re helping is really strangely enjoyable. I like them more than the repeated side content of the the last game. And it’s cool to see Miles actually being a hero and helping random people. Saving the store owner’s cat, helping Gloria get FEAST back open, they’re little things comparatively, but they make the city feel more like a real place than just a bunch of buildings for you to swing around. It still needs to bit more fine-tuning, I totally agree, but I think it’s a big step in the right direction
Yeah, I really felt like was I was doing something that mattered, and even though the last game's side missions- the actual ones, not the collectibles, everything besides the backpacks were kinda meh- were great and got Spider Man really well as a character, the ones here are just better. If felt AWESOME when all those characters you helped appeared by the end and you were saving them all, and that was really needed, because this wasn't a full on mass destroying plague killing everyone, it was just Harlem, and if you just had your mom and Ganke to care about it wouldn't have been enough, so introducing and reintroducing all those characters was a genius move in my opinion. And the side missions were just genuinely really fun, and even the challenges Peter left you with, even though they weren't the most fun gameplay wise, just hearing Peter's dialogue and hearing him talk about his past experiences was honestly inspiring to me.
I think Miles was kinda meant to be cringy on purpose. He’s new to quipping, making jokes, things like that. You kind of have to expect him to not match up with Peter in this regard.
As predictable as the story was, I still found it engaging and thoroughly enjoyable. The ending made me sad enough to be a bit jarred when the epilogue cut in four weeks later to Miles skipping down the street all happy-go-lucky, as if he'd had enough time to get over it
I haven't played it since I don't own a ps4 or 5 and won't because they are greedy as fuck with only these being on their system or spiderman only being in avengers for ps essentially making anyone who bought it on something else have a not completed game that isn't even good or worth its price period even if he was in those games and everything else they do that's bullshit like with godfall ect. Anyways I don't see how anyone has a problem with the story very well done and he obviously wasn't over it clearly you couldn't tell by how he asked Peter if this ever gets easier. As for why he seems over it at first well it's been four week's what did you expect for him to be all mopey and shit still? No he's the new spiderman he's got to protect his home and he wants to anyways can't do that if you're dwelling on thing's like phins death because all that's gonna do is make you doubt yourself (assuming he blames himself and most likely does) and that will effect how you perform. I'll also add this no one ever says shit about Peter losing his uncle and basically doing this exact same thing but within a shorter time period or in these games his Aunt May who meant so much to him.
@@austinsmith5529 Boo hoo a company that paid money for a game gets to have that game exclusively on their console. The game would have been just as shit as every other spiderman game has been for the last 15 years if it was multi plat and they didn't get the support they did from sony. @@ilay_ux there’s not an original thought in the world. I just put my own spin on it. And if you think I’m seriously gonna read every single comment thread to see if I’m plagiarizing, then lol.
[THIS IS A SPOILER] Like I think the best example is when Miles was talking to his Uncle around the end of their fight, his voice got a little high pitch which made it sound like child complaining for a moment. If he had lowered is voice in a more serious tone it would've driven his point way more across in my opinion
😂😂😂 For real though. But also am I the only who thought that Peter's job explaining why he left New York didn't make sense ? After the bridge incident I was actually concerned that he wouldn't come back home. He trusts Miles okay, but shit Miles is still super new at this thing. It would have made more sense if Symkaria was a mess and Peter had to stay there to help but the end of the game confirms he didn't have to help as Spider-Man even once there so I really don't get it I_I
Another note on Miles combat. I like how it takes more hits for Miles to knock out enemies while Peter (especially since he’s Level 50+) would almost 3 shot these bozos. I think the game did a good job on the power scaling aspect. Peter’s stealth and combat are much easier and he has a lot he can do while Miles is much more limited but still has his own quirks to keep him from getting pushed around
Yeah comic wise Peter is a bit stronger, has a stronger spider sense and ofcourse is more experienced. Miles is more agile, faster, and flexible not including his additional powers.
Yeah, i like how there's a diffrence between Peter and Miles's finishers. Where Peter puts his weight behind attacks and uses strength to attack enemies, while Miles uses his venom abilities and agility to take them out
@@charzi_5357 yeah I understand that but I mean being the second game in a series even if it is a spinoff should have gotten more advertisment than what it did.
@@mrxyz985 yes I am aware of that. Im still just saying that I barely saw any ads or coverage of this game for being in the same series as Spiderman. I mean look at how Nintendo is right now constantly covering and plugging Age of Calamity even though it isnt BOTW 2 but is a spin off game
It’s quite a buggy game, but honestly I love it more than the first. But I’m biased to the Invisible power, since Spider-man is a hero I always feel should have extra skills.
@@justbny9278 I agree. Spide-man is the people's hero, he's not invincible and he's not as powerful as some heroes but he's always there. I remember back in the day when Miles was first introduced in the comics, people had a problem with him being too "powerful" having all these extra powers that he doesn't really need. Their worries seem to be justified though as in the comics whenever Miles is having a rough time with any sort of villain his "Venom-Blast" usually solves the problem. "oh I'm having a hard time? Guess I'll punch harder but this time with feelings" this was the formula for most of the comics Miles is in. Instead of winning his battles with ingenuity and wit like what "Spider-man" feels like, he just punches things harder like any other hero.
@@vipanda511 I feel like adding some new powers for a Spider-Man is what helps them feel unique as a Spider-Man, as one of the gimmicks of the multiple Spiders is that it doesn't matter WHO'S under the mask. If they just had the same stuff as Pete they'd almost be the same fighta Pete has. Its a decent trade off since his Spidey-Sense is allegedly not as strong as Pete. You can add a new power or two as long as you make it interesting and somewhat justified.
I enjoy the combat more in this game, because in the first game a lot of the time you just spam all your gadgets at enemies, and to be honest, you're basically just way too OP against regular enemies, however the last 2 DLC packs for the first game were pretty challenging at times on ultimate difficulty, but in miles morales, it’s really consistent with the combat, and I just love how they integrated the bio-electricity with the melee combat, so it is intertwined really nicely
I personally disagree with what you saying, I think Peter is more fun because of the variety of gadgets you can use and make different combat situations while miles you just spamming your bio-Electric powers which can be boring but I can see your point.
I actually really liked the story of this game, and Simon Krieger was awesome. It's always nice to see a villain who's just a villain, you know? Plus, the actor was clearly having fun with it, and it was awesome to watch. And the script was definitely a little bit cringey sometimes, it was just cringey enough to mimic the way teenagers talk. In my opinion, this game is more like an 8.
Troy Baker, voice of Booker DeWitt, Hawkeye in a lot of animated series & games, Arkham Origins Joker, Joel from Last of Us, he's an excellent voice actor

I wish that all of the side stuff and crimes were like secret boss fights like in arkham city, I wish the crimes were like electro was sighted in this area, follow his path of destruction and apprehend him.
Exactly, so far this series lacks any interesting side missions because they're all find my lost friend or chase after pigeons instead of fighting villains who just happened to not be part of the main story.
I think the big issue with Miles as a whole is he really has no memorable stories to tell or unique rogues beyond, “One of Peter’s villains isn’t being particularly picky about the Spider-Man they want to fight today.” Which really doesn’t lead to a whole lot of stories to reach from to tell a Miles story, which is why he’s one of my least favorite Spider-People.
You'll have to read the comics to get a full feel for him because in this game his character just seems to be a yes guy who hardly seems to show no emotion during scenes. Like in the original, Peter was visibly distraught seeing otto transform into a mess and having those villains act as roadblocks built more tension story wise in this it's just a typical storyline "evil corporation finds out about defective equipment or source but hides it killing a more outspoken employee who's younger sibling or partner gets rage invoked" I don't feel any emotional tension between miles and the villains. I just be like... So when can I fight and swing again?
Perfect Idiot the thing is that miles (up until like last year) was a character who wasn’t part of the main marvel continuity/universe so yeah some villains were hand me downs from petter but those villains are very different versions of the class villains, so for instance green goblin is a huge fucking demonic looking thing instead of just some guy on a hoverboard with pumpkins
@@Fiteclipz I am very familiar with the Ultimate Universe and all of the changes it’s made. It got destroyed in the 2015 Secret Wars event in which Miles was then ported over to 616. The thing is I honestly believe that the Ultimate Spider-Man universe was the beginning of Pete’s downward spiral and has stagnated him in the long run. Even then, I hated that Bendis killed Peter off, and I hated the way he killed him off. I also hate that his replacement wasn’t Jessica taking up her “brother’s” legacy, or Eddie Brock atoning for his sins in Peter’s memory, or that it wasn’t even a displaced version of Miguel. Miles also resurrected the already tired out teenage melodrama, was handed everything from his suit, to his webshooters, to his name. Hell, his power set even includes the Spider-Venom “I win” move that even this game treats as an insta-win move. Then Bendis had Peter fake his death just to make Miles the official Ultimate Spider-Man so he could run off with Mary Jane. Miles has almost nothing interesting or unique about him that other Spider-People didn’t. He’s a minority PoC? Miguel O’Hara is a Latino. Dealing with the mantle of his predecessor? Mayday Parker exists, and is way better in that regard. Miles was never great. The fact that he needed to be altered into an almost entirely different character for the games and movie should be evidence enough.
I found the atmosphere of this game a lot more relaxed and homey than the main game; I think it just comes down to Mile's actually participating in his community in and out of the suit with the wintery atmosphere
In my opinion, it's weird to think that people think every part of being a superhero is going to be fun more often than not being a superhero is more of a burden than a hobby.

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS IN THIS COMMENT don’t think there was a “villain” as much as an antagonist. Phin was the antagonist who was meant to deliver the very relevant message that you can’t sacrifice others in your pursuit of justice, which with what happened this summer with the BLM protests is a very relevant message. I think if they had spent more time developing the relationship between phin and miles before the final battle it would have meant much more. I would have made the first half of the game take place when miles was 14-15, and first learning to be spider man, and that could also be the time that rick died and phin started plotting revenge. We see their relationship develop as miles becomes a spider man and as phin assembles the underground and starts plotting revenge which would also allow us more insight into why the underground care at all about roxxon. This would make them finding out each other’s identities much more impactful, and would make the final battle against phin a lot more meaningful. I think the story was good and could have worked it just needed more time in the oven. Overall I did like the sequel more but only because I absolutely fucking despised the stupid stealth levels and puzzles, whenever I replay the original it usually kills the game for me. I definitely think there was potential here, but 2020 being 2020 inhibited their ability to give it the time in the oven it needed.
This isn’t a sequel it’s a spin-off it was actually supposed to be a DLC but some people were upset and said miles deserved his own game. I gotta say this game is really good. I do agree with u about the MJ missions tho. Only one I kinda enjoyed was the miles one because u get to play as him

" which with what happened this summer with the BLM protests is a very relevant message." I know I am going to regret this, but what the fuck are you talking about? Who was sacrificed? Did you get your info from The Quartering? Like what? lol
the voice acting/dialogue just had me really pressed I felt like some of the scenes would’ve felt so much more serious and impactful if the dialogue was better, but games usually have this problem.😭 Hence, *Small spoiler* Miles watches something horrible happen on video, and proceeds to barely be affected or impacted by the pretty traumatic thing he just saw. Lol, he’s just like “Oh no he killed him!” If Miles was younger, and this was moment executed well, it would’ve been soul shattering to watch.
@Hi I'm Paul well, a fair amount of what you just said goes the exact same for spider verse miles. Spider verse miles struggles to figure out his powers and needs to achieve the confidence to fulfill his role as spiderman. Spider verse miles also has a kind, earnest personality. Spider verse miles also has essentially the exact same “broken” O.P powers to one hit any villain he fights. So a giant chunk of your reasoning is total bullshit and are all qualities (besides the new powers) that all spider-people should have. The only valid point was the humour part, and a so-so valid genius part. Miles is certainly no super genius. Phin is smarter than him and so is peter. The two are definitely different in this interpretation. Miles is a much cooler teenager and fits in way way more than peter ever did. He’s not an outcast like peter was, and he has the confidence to talk to girls that he is attracted to, while peter could barely walk up to one. Not to mention his fashion and clothing choices as well being infinitely times cooler than peters. Another thing is just how he acts. I literally can NOT imagine peter walking around with headphones dancing to music or just enjoying it on the streets out of costume. But I can miles, because hey, they are different in this game! Miles also clearly has different passions and interests than peter, like the ones you mentioned. Although I do wish they focused more on his mixing and musical talents like spider verse did with the visual arts.

Yeah I’m glad she’s dead
Uff i hated phin
Anyways, loved the story, not as good as the first one's story for obvious reasons, but anyway, really good for the time they had.
in order to understand Phin you have to stop looking at the story from one point of view. look at everything from her point of view:
MILES came in and fucked up her plan to steal the Nuform AND fucked up the bridge.
I feel like decent is an understatement, it’s really good but not as gods as the first game

I don’t think there was enough time spent with phin however...the game kind of just forces this narrative with her and throws in the collectible time capsules to try and create this false sense of a connection. I think if they spent a lot more time developing that relationship the game could’ve been even better. I really like it, personally, but I understand and respect your opinion
EDIT: I see your point about the side missions, but I actually like them.
It really makes you _feel_ like Miles Morales

I agree. I liked those scenes for that reason.
Do venom powers come as a bonus to the exaggerated swagger of a black teen?
No
Yea because you see the white character couldn’t do it
As predictable as the story was, I still found it engaging and thoroughly enjoyable. The ending made me sad enough to be a bit jarred when the epilogue cut in four weeks later to Miles skipping down the street all happy-go-lucky, as if he'd had enough time to get over it

Exactly, so far this series lacks any interesting side missions because they're all find my lost friend or chase after pigeons instead of fighting villains who just happened to not be part of the main story.
Yeah
@@themadtitan7603 There was Tombstone, Taskmaster and that one chick. She did like a weird UA-cam vid crime.
Well peter was dead in the miles comics so I wouldn’t really say that’s actually the case, it’s only really the case in this game

I am very familiar with the Ultimate Universe and all of the changes it’s made.
The environmental storytelling is the best part of this game. He actually feels like a part of his neighborhood.
Spider-Verse Miles is the best Miles.

The new Peter design will forever be worse than Sonic’s. Because at least they improved when they changed the movie design.
Yeah they did it backwards to sonic peters design was good but they changed it to look terrible
What is so bad about it? The reason they won't change it is because it's not objectively bad. Nobody as far as I know liked the original movie Sonic design, however, a vast majority of people don't mind Peter's face that much at all. So yeah, it's not getting "fixed" anytime soon.

@@usernamepassword236 how old do you expect someone in their 20s to look? What about him looks 14? I don't see how he looks that young in the slightest.
@@robertwesley7332 Everyone's welcome to their opinion, sure, and if you think the resign looks good then that's fine. But fans overwhelmingly agree the redesign of Peter's face is horrible. Not because it looks bad necessarily, it looks fine out of context. But because 1. Peter doesn't look 23. He looks 15. He doesn't look like someone who has been Spider-maning around for 8 years. I wouldn't believe that baby face is the chronically exhausted Peter Parker. 2. The face was changed to look more like Tom Holland. They say it is because they wanted to "better fit [the voice actor's] voice, but that's clearly misleading as Yuri Lowenthal's voice paired very well with John Bubinak's face.
They redesigned a face that had zero things wrong with it, a face that fans genuinely liked and grew attached to throughout the playthrough of the game. If it ain't broke don't fix it. But they fixed it and now it's broken.

I liked the DLC but I even I'll admit that was stupid. What could've been an interesting take on something we haven't seen in other Spider-Man versions went nowhere and even Black Cat coming back in the 3rd DLC felt pointless.
It worked in the beginning. I was super interested but then its just totally dropped and moved passed. THERE WILL BE SPOILERS IN THIS COMMENT
don’t think there was a “villain” as much as an antagonist.
Only one I kinda enjoyed was the miles one because u get to play as him
Exactly people don't know the difference between a villain someone that's supposed to be evil and antagonist someone who isn't evil but there is a conflict. Then they say "phin wasn't a good villain" 😒
" which with what happened this summer with the BLM protests is a very relevant message."
I know I am going to regret this, but what the fuck are you talking about? Who was sacrificed? Did you get your info from The Quartering? Like what? lol

This entire video was what I told a friend of mine about it. Great video couldn't have said it better myself.
the voice acting/dialogue just had me really pressed I felt like some of the scenes would’ve felt so much more serious and impactful if the dialogue was better, but games usually have this problem.😭 Hence, *Small spoiler* Miles watches something horrible happen on video, and proceeds to barely be affected or impacted by the pretty traumatic thing he just saw. Lol, he’s just like “Oh no he killed him!” If Miles was younger, and this was moment executed well, it would’ve been soul shattering to watch.
The only place where Miles has a cool personality is in Spiderverse
What's wrong with this Spider-Man?
this Miles clearly has personality though
@Hi I'm Paul
list all of the things that make them exactly the same. if they are exactly the same, it shouldn't be much and it shouldn't take long
@Hi I'm Paul well, a fair amount of what you just said goes the exact same for spider verse miles.
@Hi I'm Paul ok wait a minute. Are we talking about comic miles or video game miles? If we are talking about comic miles I agree with just about everything you said, but if we are talking about video game miles than you are dead wrong buddy.
