- Fleetwood Mac - Rhiannon from 1975 with lyrics below
LYRICS:
Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night
And wouldn't you love to love her?
Takes through the sky like a bird in flight
And who will be her lover?
All your life you've never seen a woman
Taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you Heaven?
Will you ever win?
She is like a cat in the dark
And then she is the darkness
She rules her life like a fine skylark
And when the sky is starless
All your life you've never seen a woman
Taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you Heaven?
Will you ever win? Will you ever win?

What this song about
I had twin girls in 1980, and I had always promised myself I would name my first daughter, Rhiannon. Well I had to come up with a second name as well. So I decided to name my second daughter, Rachel. We lost Rhiannon when she was just 22 years old. Now when I hear this song, I imagine it is my little girl saying, "Hi Mom"
She did not ever leave you. Pay attention around you...she will show you 🕊
Melanie Nail, that’s exactly what i thought, the ones we love never really leave us
i’m so so sorry for your loss god bless you and your family. rip rhiannon

I work retail and this song always plays at dead hours when no one is in the store and just the echo of the emptiness of the store makes this song sound amazing.
Irvin Gomez that’s amazing because I could picture it and hear it, I like to listen to this with my beats on while walking late at night and no ones around. It’s good for the soul
Or blasting in the speakers with the windows down, sun roof open, at night driving down backroads in the midwest
Irvin Gomez I know the feeling. I work retail overnight and they play a few FM songs and I jam. Hell yea.
I played this song at work, but no one really caught on to it. It is truly an enchanting song.

Stevie Nicks was an idol to lot of artists today, including Harry Styles and Lana Del Rey. Her icon is very unique and very different, yet something beautiful about her.
u are talkin some straight up BS! STFU!
You are clearly trying to justify to yourself, that the bollocks mainstream illuminati crap that you listen to is on some par with great music from the 50's/60's/70's/80's and 90's.

Fun fact: Stevie Nicks based this song on a character named Rhiannon from a fantasy novel, and was surprised to learn afterwards that not only was Rhiannon the name of an ancient Welsh hero/goddess, but the lyrics fit the Welsh character just as well as the novel's. She wound up writing some more songs about the legend as part of a personal project that she eventually scrapped, though one of them, "Angel," made it onto Fleetwood Mac's 1979 album Tusk.

I called my daughter Rhiannon. Had the name picked out even before she was born and I knew she was a girl. Funny thing is......... Rhiannon is a typical Welsh name. It means Welsh goddess. Was so moved by this song when I was 8 years old and it came out as a hit on AM 89 WLS Chicago that I promised myself I would name my daughter, if I had one, after this song. In 1988, I had a daughter, and I named her Rhiannon.
Good old WLS, grew up with it. And turned this song up for sure!
I visit my grandparents every Monday Wednesday and Friday so you could say I have a very close relationship w my grandfather. Since my father didn't always make the best decisions when I was younger my grandparents raised me and just yesterday I visited and he pulled me to the side and told me that he might have cancer, but he told me not be afraid cause he isn't and he's happy with what he's done and everything he is going to leave behind. And all day today ive been listening to songs that he would play when I was younger and when this song came up it just brought tears to my eyes and keep replaying the memories of us in my head. To those that have lost loved ones to the various types of cancer I send my condolences.

Rhiannon is the Celtic Goddess of the Moon, fertility, rebirth, wisdom, magick, transformation, beauty, artistic inspiration, and is the patroness of poets, as well as the Divine Queen of the Fairies. She is reputed to be extremely beautiful and have a tremendous singing voice. She was born at the first Moonrise, and much of what we know about her comes from the Mabinogen, an ancient book of Welsh folklore.
According to the Mabinogen, Rhiannon fell in love with a mortal and refused to marry one of her “own kind”, much to the distress of her family. The lucky guy was Prince Pwyll. They first met by Pwyll’s castle, at The Tors, a place reputed to be just above the entrance to the underworld, and was thought to cause enchantment and love. Pwyll immediately fell in love, and when Rhiannon rode by, he followed her. On and on they rode, Pwyll persuing her, however he could never bridge the distance between them, no matter how fast or long he rode. When he could ride no more, he called out to her in desperation and she stopped to wait for him, smiling to let him know all he had to do is ask for her.

To love a Rhiannon is melancholy. It’s a deep passion - desiring to own but never being allowed the pleasure. It’s the sadness of setting a beautiful butterfly free, but knowing that it’s freedom is what’s allowed it to blossom so wildly.

I listened to this album on the train from Iwakuni to Hiroshima. Fleetwood Mac is the background music to most of my Japan memories.
My mom showed me this and tried to convince me to name my little girl Rhiannon instead of Cloie before we had her. Mom passed away 7 months after I had Cloie. So in honor of her memory, we named our rainbow baby Rhiannon and gave her mom's middle name. I was due to have her on mom's 2 year anniversary. It all felt like mom sent her to us to bring the light back into our lives. And that is just what little Rhiannon has done. 🥰 She has her Nana's eyes and personality. This song makes me tear up every time I hear it now.
The 70's. Best decade ever! If you were into having fun, and you weren't in Vietnam. This song is so mystical.
My grandpas war journal mentioned the newspapers that would get sent to him from my family about the protesters and the hatred that veterans were getting when they came home. He wasn't into partying, he was surviving in an unjust war where there were people in Peaceful America protesting a war they didn't have the balls to fight in. But he did, and he died last November due to complications of pneumonia caused by AIDS. He shared needles with 2 of his original platoon members after they returned from the war. Demonized by the media, and patronized by youth, Neill R. Benson turned to painkillers because people wanted to party instead of surviving.
AHS introduced me to Fleetwood Mac (of course i had heard of them before) and I'm so thankful for that

The first time hearing "Rhiannon" with that drum and bass tandem and the murky sound of Stevie Nick's voice I knew that this song, this woman, this group was gonna be special. No axe to grind, no look at me. The album was the best. "Landside" again, first tine I heard it it was no standout hit. But I knew a classic when I heard it. Christine M.'s sultry "Falling," the back cover album picture of the band in the bathroom, Christine's killer body. Stevie's golden hair. That album was it, for me. "Rumours" was okay. The word to describe Fleetwood Mac in the mid-seventies was mellow. No question it was rock, but Mick and John set the mood and tone, uncanny how they did so without writing the songs, singing or playing guitar. They're unfathomable, their sound. But along with "Frampton Comes Alive," Fleetwood Mac would dominate the second half of 70's rock n roll.

I wish everyone could just stop whining about the fact that not everyone knew about them until AHS. AHS let a lot of people know about this beautiful band and their songs. Does it really matter that some people get introduced to music in different ways than you want them to be?
exactly couldnt have said it any better
is that from the office or something? lol
What is AHS?
***** i think its american horror story
So true! Well said!
I was 14 years old when this song was released in the early 70's. I vowed if I ever had a daughter, I would name her Rhiannon. In 1978, I had a beautiful baby girl and I named her Rhiannon Eve. She was a hard worker and she partied hard too...she also loved to travel the world and considered herself to be a REAL pirate! My gorgeous daughter died in a car crash, September 2014. She was 36 years old. So now she's sailing the seven seas, having adventures we can only dream about...I miss my Rhiannon so much...
sorry for your loss
Heart breaking, sorry for your loss. I know she was beautiful and may her soul rest in peace.
Thanks so much for that Michelle and Stephanie...if you want to see some pics/vids of my gurl, send a friend request to her Fb account that I now administer. It's under Rhiannon Eve King (Rhiannon Eve Wilson-King) I so love sharing her life with anyone who's interested...and that helps us keep our memories alive too.
Jak3609 so touching.
Damn
Headphones and Fleetwood Mac...whew, just a mind blowing experience of what a perfectly in tune band with magnificent musicians and vocalists at every positon in the band!!!!
Best Song ever!!! ❤️❤️❤️
This song reminds me of my aunt who used to wear roach clips in her hair with feathers on it.
+Spyder Fweek Funny, this reminds me of my aunt as well. She'd blast music loudly every Sunday while cleaning the house. :) She also smoked, which I'm guessing maybe yours did, too. ;)
+Whatthefuck Whtff How proud you must be of your moniker. It's kids like you who will NOT inherit the world. You are too moronic.
+Jaseeka Rawr You know...I take issue with this. I'm 63 now and used to blast Fleetwood while cleaning house naked with the blinds down of course. And I never did weed. As a surgeon I couldn't. But now I do because of a severe medical condition.Whatever floats your boat.
Vicious Virago :) There's nothing wrong with smoking. I mentioned it because the OP said she wore "roach clips". Keep smoking, especially if it helps your condition.
If you grew up during that time, I think you'll agree that the 60s & 70s had many pot smokers. :)
I lol'd
My aunt used to say that, when she died, she'd become a bird. She was a beautiful woman and a witch. My mom cries when she hears this song because it reminds her of her sister.
it's made me cry
Snickercole Rhiannon is an old Celtic name meaning witch, so it's very fitting.
southsidesman stop trying to shove your beliefs down people's throats
+southsidesman
They dont believe in your god, or any of your christian entities neither the christian god or satan exist to them. This person has done nothing to undermind your beliefs, so if you do not believe in something simply ignore it and respect their beliefs. You doing this disrespects some one who has passed on, You are not the god of the christian faith you do not decide who goes where that should be the decision of the Christian Lord to make and his only.
southsidesman Calm down, not everybody believes the same things that you do, and shouting at people will not help either.
If you think that someone's going to Hell, keep it to yourself, that would mean you'd never have to deal with that person.
Did God descend from Heaven to tell you to force people to follow something they do not believe?
You are not God, and trying to do what you think he would want may not be what he actually wants. If you worry about people going to hell, then pray for those who you think need it.
But yelling at people is counterproductive.
Listening to Stevie Nicks singing songs, you are under her bewitching spell. Nicks’ vocal technique is hauntingly beautiful and so addictive.
The fact that the comments are all recent shows that this is quality music.
Very True, very true. Good Music Lives forever ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🐈⬛
shout out to the kids who are named after this song!! ✌
yay!!!
+Rhiannon Ward my daughter is named Rhiannon
My sister lmao
i was :)
I am WOOT WOOT!!
Hello! Im just leaving this comment here so that after a week or month or year and years go by when someone likes it, I will listen to this song again 💛
This song reminds me of the days when my dad would take me and my younger brother on a road trip to Notre Dame for the weekend and we would have such a fun time there. Then on the way back, we would leave the hotel and start our car ride back home on the highway during the quiet, dark, early morning. Songs like this song would play on the radio as we look out the window at all the farmland. I loved those moments.
that sounds like a dream
Being of Welsh ancestory I have always loved this song. It captures a small part of Rhiannon. She is definitley my favorite part of Welsh folklore. She could ride a horse at a slow gait, but nobody could catch her. She had a bag that could never be filled. 😉
Lately her losing Pryderi has been haunting me. I love that the Welsh are unflinching in keeping their mythical women/Goddesses real in that they may not like their children or, being r*ped, or in Rhiannon's case, possibly losing their babies whether stolen or stillbirth. My brain wants to associate her losing Pryderi to stillbirth a lot lately, and I can't quite grasp why. Hope for my ancestors back in 1300s Wales when Pryderi comes back to her? I love this stuff so much!
Giggity
The part of me that comes from this line.... It's like being pulled away by a rope at the feet
Rhiannon is Welsh for Goddess of the Moon!💙🌕 Rhiannon, also known as Great Queen and White Witch, is an inspiring character in Celtic mythology, who possesses deep magic and can manifest her desires and dreams for the good of herself and others.🌛🌜🧿
Blessed be.
R.I.P mom, still cry to 1 of your favorite bands🌫💯😞
Same here :(

Her voice hits different in this song she put her soul into this, absolutely breathtaking and nostalgic.
Love Fleetwood. One of their best songs!
Some of my favorite lyrics ever are “Dreams unwind, love’s a state of mind” I connect with that a lot. And I like the way it fades in the background towards the end. Fleetwood Mac is an amazing band and Stevie is an incredible song writer.
I so agree with you I Love Me Some Stevie
From what I can tell it's 'Dreams unwind, love's a state of mind' followed by 'dreams unwind, her love's a state of mind' and repeated in that fashion of every other line. I'm pretty new to the song but yeah it sounds like she adds in 'her', as I say, every other time.
me too
Yes that is an awesome song love lyrics too everything Stevie sings is great
I was named after this song I have those lyrics tattooed on my stomach
Stevie Nicks voice is so intoxicating. Love her.
Rhiannon is the Celtic Goddess of the Moon 💙 Blessed Be loves
Iconic, mystical, spell binding... Stevie is the Rock Goddess of all times.💗💗💗💗
Hello Julie
Sad how many people didn't know Fleetwood Mac...! I've been listening since I was a little girl.
Now you're a big boy
You're a horrible person James.
+JenkNation Thank you. I love getting compliments from strangers :')
+Captain Mana - when I was a sophomore in college one morning all these posters were stuck to the walls and doors advertising Fleetwood Mac coming to the fieldhouse on whatever date, didn't say what year. Didn't fool me any, a grad student had told me Fleetwood Mac had come to the u of M five years before.
+Captain Mana The funny thing about not knowing them is that they have the 8th-best-selling album of ALL TIME (Rumors).
These guys were not obscure in their time, and as far as I'm concerned, their classic sound is a really timeless one.
But damn if their internal drama didn't banish them to obscurity with only occasional escape (like the Clinton re-election campaign).
Rhiannon: goddess of suffering and patience (Welsh)
Not only that, but goddess of moon, horses. Shes known for a lot
Thank you, I want to use it go a book.
my patron goddesses 💜
rhiannon was a Welsh witch ( or in stevie's case, a goddess)
goddess of suffering sounds about right
This song never gets old I've listened to it about 30 times today.
This song is amazing. One of the best of that era!!!!!
My mom used to sing this to me and she used to sing “Brianna” instead of Rhiannon because my names Brianna.
And just uh! Memories
That's sweet
You're Rhiannon forever. Caught in a wind.
Damien Knight why tf ur username Damien then?
My mom would too to me! She would be cleaning the house and play Fleetwood Mac.. When this song would come on, she would pick me up and dance with her..... Memories
@@AB-vn2jc that's what i'm thinking abt too
This song gives me chills
b00mer2012 me too, but I also get some chills when I read there that people know this song only from some series currently broadcasted on TV. :(
how else are you suppose to find music? like you magically think of it then poof its there? so stfu music is timeless and anyone can find out about it whenever
Zoe Cullen Researching on your own, seeking where the given genre took its root from. If you like rock, for example, then you shouldn't limit yourself to what's been created and recorded now/recently. I think it's too shallow. Not saying that YOU do i it this way, but most people do. If music is timeless then what is this song the only old one that you probably know?
Żaneta Z.
***** was I really mean? The girl told to me stfu. // You should listen concert version, it's a whole lot better than the recording from a studio. :)
I'm so sad today, I grew up on Fleetwood Mac. RIP Christie 😭😭
