Hello everyone from a rainy Ireland! 🌈☘️
I really enjoyed doing the voiceover for this video and I hope you like it as much as me. The woman in her eighties Judith Hoad inspired me so much and I wanted to share with you all.

I loved the video of Judith Hoad. I laughed out loud several times. She was so honest and forthright. It was very inspiring to see how to grow old ( disgracefully) and be contented both of which I aspire to.

many people are running for money, status and many more things but It's a treasure to understand that we don't need that much .. less is more and nature is all around us to make us happy either in a rural or urban areas, we love and heal from nature.

In cultures where Elders are respected, I feel both the elderly and younger folk both profit from their experience and live better lives. I am in my 70s and love sharing my natural living experiences from my woodlands setting with my young grandchildren who live in the suburbs of a large city. I try not to be cranky or preachy in presenting this view. Simply show them joy and love!
I recently wrote them thank you letters after a visit there for all the kindnesses and fun they'd showed me. I printed my message so they could read it to themselves. They were so proud! People seldom write letters anymore and especially not to small children! They love getting personal mail and were delighted!
I think my one hint at being an elder who is a positive influence would be to not focus on your losses and limitations as you age. Don't whine or try to guilt trip your friends or family members. Be active as possible, choose happy over sadness and accept where you are.

Thank you for that wonderful advice❤️ My sister and I are in our late 50’s, we joke that we’re in the freshman class of being older, and it’s something I think about a lot, how can I be a happy older person who is a blessing to others?

@@Therese100109 HI Deborah! Thanks for your reply. I'm in my 70s and live 5 hours drive away from my grandkids, ages 6 and 9. I don't get there as often as I'd like but we make up for it in fun when we do see each other. I try to actively listen to what they say and do activities with them as much as my body will allow! They knew I had an injured ankle this visit so they carried my things, held doors open for me and intentionally slowed down their pace so I could keep up walking! If they squabbled, I'd simply get up and move away without saying anything. Let them and their parents work that out!
Lastly, I try not to overstay my welcome!
I make it clear that I have friends and activities I need to get back to here at home on about Day #4.
My advice to you it to enjoy whatever age you are and keep active doing things you love. In your 50s? You are but a girl!!
I have made lots of mistakes in my life and the biggest one was working too hard and ignoring my health in the process. I did for everyone else and by retirement my self- neglect caught up with me. Balance, Dear Lady! Warm wishes!

Oh yes! My grandma would send us packs and it was such a celebration when they arrived. Me and my brother would be jumping around with joy. Even opening and unpacking felt like a ceremony. She always puts so much care and love in everything that she does. Everything was always so thoughtfully packed inside. And besides the little gifts, we would all get some personal notes as well, handwritten. Memories to treasure, for sure. So grateful that she is still with us.

I live in the wilderness of the PNW, 🇨🇦 with my partner. I feel very fortunate to live amongst the rugged mountains and the pristine lakes and rivers of this valley. There is so much to do outside and I believe our lifestyle is a healthy one. That said… it takes a special person to live off-grid and on their own. I love the wilderness, but I also love electricity and the internet (even tho’ power outages and internet down time are frequent). I also like being around people… so it is convenient that I work in town, even tho’ it is a lot of driving. I love your beautiful linen dress and that your parents are nearby in the countryside. Thanks for this video this morning Niamh… beautiful footage and lovely thought provoking content as always. Have a great rest of your day.

Hello sweet one. As soon as the video began, and I saw you in that dress I said...oh my, she's wearing my dress. I love my dress. I wear it all of the time. It gets better, and feels better, with every wash and wearing. There is nothing like linen. That etsy shop is amazing, and I highly recommend checking it out, to all of the ladies (and gents).
Ah yes the elders. We are all on our way to becoming one, and to help us get there more graciously, I suggest we pay attention to the ones we know already there. I check in with you every week, to make sure I am checking in with me. Thank you, for your grace and beauty. I learn so much from you, even tho I am your elder. Have a most beautiful week.

My great grandmother lived to be 98. She raised her own chickens kept goats for milk and lived a simple life. She had all her 8 kids at home. She was a strong woman drank 2 shots of liquor each night she always said everything in moderation. She had no use for modern things. I would bet that interviewer has no idea what it is like to find true peace in living as God intended simply. My grandmother, who raised my dad, lived in England and passed at the age of 105. She too lived off grid much of her life.
When she was 100 she was walking home from the market in the dusk hours and fell into a manhole located on the street she took as a shortcut. My grandmother had a very quiet voice and knew she would not be heard calling for help. She lay there all night. She ate bread and honey and then wrapped her cotton market bag around her shoulders and slept for the night. There was no ladder so she had no choice but to wait for the morning.
When morning came she was found and brought out of the hole. Everyone there, showering her with concern, were all sure she had been broken in some way. She thanked her rescuer, gave him the flask of golden honey, dusted off her dress, and walked home.
Not a broken bone nor a scratch upon her body.
Such a lovely video. The dress is beautiful. I will be sure to check out the creator of the dress as well as the documentary. Thank you for sharing Niamh💖 Happy Sunday🌺

This weekend, I'll be visiting my grandparents (ages 89 and 91!) for the first time since the pandemic began. What a timely video! I've very much been feeling the call to be in community with elders lately. I joined Sharon Blackie's Mythic Imagination Network and there has already been a sharing circle where elder women were available to share their experiences, and there will be another shortly. It was lovely to hear from like-minded women who are on the other side of menopause! I'm sure you felt the same way watching the documentary. I'll be looking it up for sure.

I have lived in the mountains as a child for a couple of years without electricity, running water and a wood-burning stove to heat the house and cook the food. It's an experience I will never forget and cherish the lessons of the land.

This was so beautiful and, personally, very synchronistic for me. I currently work with the elderly and I love listening to their stories, advice, wisdom. Also, after nearly 30 years of dreaming, I finally took my first step to becoming an herbalist, and in just a few short days my connection, respect, and gratitude for nature has deepened. Eventually, I dream of becoming the elder, on her hill, that others come to for wisdom.

My grandmother is 98 and surrounded by kids and this also does stimulate her. Everyone has a place and something to give. The knowledge of the elderly and the freshness of youth and children. Both are wild spirits ;) I think our society doesn't considerate elders nor children enough. Sorry for my poor english and the rambling 😅

I especially like this one as I am from the southwest part of the United States and I grew up around American Indian culture, my husband is American Indian and a Sundancer. A lot of what you talked about in this video ties directly to their cultural beliefs, the ties to the land. I showed this video to my husband and he thought it was nice. He's always lived quite simple. Thank you again for posting these they're all so lovely! And I've learned quite a bit about simplifying my life. One of the hardest things about living in a different country from family is not being able to have them involved in daily life. I’m very aware they could need me and I can’t be there for them. I also hesitate to share what’s going on in my life because I never want to add any additional worry or burden to them. I think it’s wonderful that your parents have moved out to the country and that you can visit; I love how much thought and preparation you put into everything you do (such a sweet picnic basket, the cloth, the napkins, the home-made cordial, strawberries you grew, pretty tablecloth & the fizz). That’s the kind of thing my mum would absolutely love to do with me and it would make her very happy. You’ve encouraged me to reconsider what I can do to make her feel special despite the distance (well, and my dad too). Family, elders are so important, I agree 💗

Love your linen dress. And your way of life brings me a small moment to brighten my day. I live in the city and am getting up there in years and it hard to find a quiet place to go and with headphones on my head and your videos and the the many others I watch I find the quiet place I long for. Sending my thanks and love from far away Utah USA. Take care ☺️🌻🐝

Beautiful video, in every detail! The blade of grass concept probably came from the work of Walt Whitman (1819-1892), who wrote Leaves of Grass, in which he sang the unity of mankind, nature, God, the universe. It's life changing when you realize we're all a small part of a greater whole, right? Lots of love from Brazil!!

It’s elderflower season in Colorado, too. My favorite way of using the flowers is by adding a cup of blossoms to pancake batter. Adds a perfume and texture. Lovely.

Everything you said is perfect. I've been collecting seeds because very soon my partner and I want to have our own house. And the last few days I've been thinking that I have to check my seed collection to see if I have elderflower seeds. 😊

This video was very inspirational to me, not only for the looks but for the entire content. I will be retiring in 10 days and the pandemic has helped me in viewing myself living a simple life. I envy that woman Judith Hoad as her bravery is exactly what I need. Thank you for sharing and for showing that simple yet pretty and enjoyable things are here and now and we just need to take the first step. Thanks indeed

I wish I could live in a nice tiny cottage like you, be able to do what you do, and just live simply. I was meant to live out with nature, Do you ever make pressed flower art? I would love to have some pressed flower and plant art pressed in one of those glass thingies.

That was beautiful. The elder flowers were so lovely, they looked like they would be right for a wedding bouquet. I didn’t realise you were in Ireland.. I am 3/4 Irish and very proud to be. I did admire your glass lamp very much. 🥰 🌈 🦋

I am very excited about selling my 3 bed/2 bath home that is too much home for me and am buying a 1 bedroom cottage, with a lovely yard for a garden and my 2 silly pups. You continue to inspire, very much appreciated! What a lovely story about a wonderful Elder!

I have noticed that you read a book about botanical dyes in another video. Elder leaves and the bark are also great for natural dyeing! The leaves create a beautiful vibrant yellow-green colourway and the bark creates a subtle grey/tan.

Love learning new things that you share with us - thank you! And yes, our elders are instructed to teach and pass down wisdom to us. Hard to find these days, but if you are hungry for it and persistent, you shall find it. Slowly, we are figuring it out.

I love your videos... They're inspiring... We believe the tree behind our house is an elder tree but we are not sure... I love sitting in my garden just wish it was in the country... I'm blessed to create a garden in the city a place I can go to and enjoy... Saint John NB Canada... I look forward to your Sunday morning video before I sit in my garden with my coffee

I thoroughly enjoyed your video. My mother always made elderflower tea for us whenever we had a cold. She would cut and dry them on a linen cloth first. Then kept them in mason jars to keep handy. Thank you for bringing this memory back to me.❤️
