Where you pull the vaccume out of the box in order to try to get rid of some of the heat, you might try making a carb hole in the box. A valve you can open to allow air to pull strait through the box for a second or 2 at a time.
are you able to use your regular shop vac for this new silicone sheeting? It seems to be more flexible and stretch more than your pond lining one that you had.
Are the screws going through the silicone, or is it just being squeezed? I got my silicone yesterday and have sever holsters I need to make but I'm not so great with woodworking. I'm just trying to figure out how to keep it from pulling out of the frame. Thanks in advance.
I make hybrid holsters like you. Do you think this is a better way than using a press? I've thought a lot about it and with out building one I just don't know. Just wondering what you think. By the way. with my press I use a 6x6 piece of kydex 4 holsters out of a sq foot. sometimes it's tight around the trigger guard but it's worked so far. again thanks for the videos, your doing great work
just get yourself a $20 infrared thermometer from harbor freight and take the guess work out of it. That's what I did and it works flawlessly. You want to pull the kydex around 300 degrees
are you making holsters with a leather backing or with a full kydex setup all the way around. seems you would have trouble mating 2 pieces of kydex to each other with this method as there is no middle point to meet at.
Hey Cody, I've gotten all set up to make my first mold. I'm using .080 with the exact same setup as you. Would you tell me the temp you set your toaster oven for and for how long. There's LOTS of conflicting info out there. Thanks
You can find the sheeting on amazon. search for .020 silicone 20 durometer and it will come up. Not the cheapest stuff out there but probably the best quality.
Great video, there is a guy in my town making and selling kydex holsters, but he is charging just s much as the retail stores. 75+ dollars. I am going to start making my own. This is a great help.
I dont think it would work that great on the fold over method of forming because you would need pressure to be applied from both sides simultaneously. This method of vacuum forming only applies pressure from one side at a time. I am unsure if a lower profile box would apply more suction.
Thanks for taking the time to post a video. Would love to just buy a former like that instead of trying to make one. Yours looks very nice.
Great video. Where did you get the silicone sheeting. How did you determine the sight channel. Again best video I've seen yet.
You made that look easy! Nice holster.
Great video Cody keep up the good work!

I got it off Amazon for about $10 for a 12"x12" sheet. Like Kit Deaver said, just search .020 silicone sheet 20 durometer and you will fine something.
Man that looks great.

Awesome, glad your saving some Kydex and some cash!!! How do you mount/hold the silicone sheet? Just pressure from your trim wood?
Thanks

Nice work! Thanks for posting.
some adhesives can form a molecular/chemical bond between the two sheets.

This is bad ass. Good job.
what is the life span you are getting out of the silicone sheet?

Cody Where do you get the plastic I know you could use epdm rubber liner but I think silicone would be better.
Are you just using a standard large shop vac for the vacuum?
Yes, you can use a regular shop vac with this silicone and it is exactly what I use.

How hot are you getting the kydex and how long are you leaving it in the oven?

What kind of shop vac are you using?
Where do you buy the kydex from?
The silicone sheet was purchased from amazon.com. And it is held screwed to the frame in between the Thomas pieces of wood on top.
I have a bunch of wood and a shop vac I can make a vacuum mold. I never thought of doing that, I was going to make a press.
