Might another approach be to first separate the branshes and the trunk into 2 objects, then simulating them separately. And afterwards re-join the two bone groups into one? EDIT: Sorry, didn't see the other video where you took that approach. Curious still, if it would be more effective in this case?

Totally dude! I only did it this way because I didn't know how the simulation would turn out while I was recording.
