  • Hi, meatheads! In this video, Coach MANdler explains the best way to force more growth and strength with the farmers walk...heavy weight for short distance, or light weight for long distance. The key for both building size and strength with this, as with all exercises, is using both in a varied format so as to continue forcing more and more adaptations.

    My advice is to take it outside. Paved hills for about 1 mile. I weigh 160 lbs. I wear a 20 lbs weighted vest and 20 lbs kettlebells in each hand (60 lbs total). Longer stride on the flats and faster cadence on the uphills for more intensity. I train mainly for the cardio and fatigue resistance benefits.

    Great channel and suggestions...
    In 3 months my continuous carry of 2x35lb went from .5 miles to 1.15 miles and total carry to complete technical failure (meaning I couldn't even do it anymore even taking a break an regripping) from 1 mile to 2.62 miles
    As for 2x70lb in the same 3 months, it went from 500ft continuous carry to 1,100ft.
    My goal is to do 2x35lb for 3 miles continuous and 2x70lb for a mile continuous by the end of the year...

    for me lightweight is 30 pounds and heavy weight is around 50....I can barely lift two 60s let alone walk with it. I tried to lift a single 90 with 1 arm and had to drop it after getting it up a few inches. Otherwise I could say goodbye to my shoulder.
    Being a weak ectomorph sucks. :( But hey, when I started at 6'1 110 pounds I couldn't even OHP a 45 pound bar. At 175 pounds I can now OHP 105! :D I honestly think 135 is my genetic limit (Sucks when guys can do 315+) but only time will tell.

      hey buddy. i only do single arm hold. i started with 10kg+ due to my injured spine. now, i am doing 40kg single arm hold for around 30 seconds. i can see huge growth and strength :) when i do it, i never count any reps. just do it single-handed with both hands without rest. then i rest a few minutes before i do again. until i no longer can lift that barbell up, i quit and rest for 2-3 days. with a current weight which i feel it's heavy, say i can hold no longer than 30 seconds. then the 2nd time i lift it, i can feel it's better than the 1st time. because of this, i love to do it :) the growth and strength is very quick. and im quite skinny too. 75kg (5f+) it's honest from me.

      You're just a weak beginner, don't sell yourself short on your genetics and "ectomorph" structure. Excuses don't get results so train.

      You're really going to still get muscle stimulus... you're still fighting gravity with 30s!

    How to know the best weight for farmers walk? I plan to buy a new pair of kettlebells but I don't know which weight I should buy. 56kg or 48kg for 70bw? I currently have a pair of 32kg and I walk with them around 2 minutes. 5 sets of 2 minutes (around it).

    Hi Coach! Thanks for the response! This is great! I do Farmers Walk on Monday and Friday so I can do heavy one day and light on the other!

    • @CoachMANdler
      @CoachMANdler  8 років тому +2

      If you're focused more on strength, do the heavy ones as a core lift or at the very least towards the beginning of the routine. I'd use the lighter ones simply as a finisher.
