    "not too perfect" is something I have been thinking about lately. I've been following a lot of filmmakers and DP's and some are so good at lighting that the scenes look so fake, like its so obvious these were lit. I think what you said is a great example of showing what "life" is really like, and mimicking it. I've found myself lighting scenes that look great but when i look back its so clear to me that I just use every light i had because i could, not necessarily because I needed it. There is beauty in the simple. Good stuff Lew

    • @frankanore
      @frankanore 3 місяці тому

      There's no fake lighting. It's not all the time DPs light realistically. Sometimes they light for style/art sake. Theatre/film is larger than life. Example, the smoke you put in scenes do you have it in your home on a normal day? It depends on your vision in crafting your scenes/shots.

    Wouldn't expect this amount of lights by just looking at the scene. Great job on making it look natural.

    I feel like your uploads are the golden part of UA-cam for me.
    I feel really comfortable because of your personality (which makes me feel real comfortable).
    It feels like we are hanging out, so even if you might see your channel as educational, it is highly entertaining too.
    And of course I learn A LOT.

    This is just perfect, man, perfect video for starting cinematographers. Tomato can and knife stand holding bouncing board really made me chuckle knowing there was a big truck full of gear xD But it's never stupid if it works and it reminds me how we do things in our company sometimes where there is just no budget and time. You have to be able to work with whatever you get :) You nailed the light bzw - it does feel very natural and pleasant to look at. This is just great channel. Keep it up.

    The way you use light is so beautiful, nuanced and precise, it’s incredible. The splash of hard light blends everything so perfectly! Thank you so much for the knowledge, this is the best cinematography channel, so incredibly grateful to have found you and for your content. I look forward to drinking it all in.

    Hi Lewis, you have a beautiful work done and I admire that you not only talk about those things but you actually do them, you shoot them. I work in an agency where we have several productions of different budgets planned for this year. I would very much like to see a video of how you plan such a set, how you put together a crew, how long it takes you to plan something like this, but at the same time I would like to watch on a smaller scale where you can put together a maximum of 5 people, whom you would miss and who just have to be on the team? Our productions are on a smaller budget and I just get to the given level of DoP, so I take every video from a professional to heart. Thank you, Zoltan.
    btw. this is just my personal freelance acc on youtube

Do you use software, draw it out or all in your head? How much do you talk with the client about it and does it take you days or an afternoon? Things like that would be super valuable. Thanks!

Those CLRS are are such a cool tools if you got times with them. And yeah 40mm is such a cool focal lenght. We're always switching between 35 and 50...... and 40 is just overal perfect ahah.

    I really appreciate your lighting breakdowns Lewis. When you’re lighting through a window for your key and it’s in the frame, how do you typically expose for that? Is the window usually a bit blown out? What is the right balance of being able to get enough exposure on your subject without blowing out the window. Thanks
