Loved this talk. A divine wake up call for me personally. So many layered messages. We are truly in the last days and this is a stern, but loving message to evaluate our focus and turn back to the Lord. He cannot bless us or protect us if we are not spiritually prepared and clothed in His garments. Please see the love that comes from correction! This is not just about the physical garment, although I have personally experienced the power and protection that comes from faithfully wearing the garment. We do not have much time before the tribulations begin, and Heavenly Father wants us to be ready ❤️

A man may murder or commit adultery. God will honor the man's agency to do such and never force the man's will, but God will not look upon such sins with even the least degree of allowance, let alone honor.

Elder Bednar explicitly explained that the problem was the man's disobedience and rebellion, his refusal to take the appropriate steps. "Do ye suppose that mercy can rob justice? I say unto you, Nay; not one whit. If so, God would cease to be God." The scriptures are clear that there will come a time when procrastinating our repentance will be everlastingly too late: "Ye cannot say, when ye are brought to that awful crisis, that I will repent, that I will return to my God. Nay, ye cannot say this; for that same spirit which doth possess your bodies at the time that ye go out of this life, that same spirit will have power to possess your body in that eternal world." In the words of President Nelson, "Please do [the spiritual work necessary to repent and be firmly on the covenant path] now. Time is running out." ⏳

Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat.
37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.
47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

    • @asdfghjklqwertyui93
      @asdfghjklqwertyui93 2 роки тому

Yes, the woman *sincerely* repented and was forgiven. On the other hand, proverbially spitting in the Savior's face with our rebellious sin and refusing to repent until our deathbed or when we reach the judgment bar will *not* work and is like the "foolish" man ignoring the Savior's invitations for righteous living and having his house consequently and devastatingly washed away. (Consider how this disastrous tragedy could represent our celestial "mansion"/inheritance.)
Elder Gong emphasized the same concept in this very October conference:
"In contrast, those who deliberately choose wickedness, who consciously procrastinate repentance, or who in any premeditated or knowing way break the commandments, planning for easy repentance, will be judged by God and a “bright recollection of all [their] guilt.” We cannot knowingly sin on Saturday, then expect automatic forgiveness by partaking of the sacrament on Sunday... We should none of us put off repentance. The blessings of repentance begin as we begin to repent."
President Nelson emphasized the folly of a " let's do whatever we want now and plead for mercy later at the last minute" mindset in April 2019:
He spoke of a man unwilling to keep the commandments in this life who said, “Once I die, please do the necessary temple work for my wife and me so that we can be together again.”
President Nelson soberly commented, "Thankfully, I am not this man’s judge. But I do question the efficacy of proxy temple work for a man who had the opportunity to be baptized in this life-to be ordained to the priesthood and receive temple blessings while here in mortality-but who made the conscious decision to reject that course." To paraphrase Elder Gong, we cannot knowingly reject the commandments in mortality and expect celestial glory by "repenting" on our deathbed or in the spirit world. Likewise, to Elder Bednar's point, those who knowingly refuse to get their lives in order beforehand (repent and stay on or get back on the covenant path) **will not** be permitted to attend the wedding feast when Christ is crowned King of kings and Lord of lords. Who would want to miss such a glorious celebration!? No wonder there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth on the part of the rebellious!
34 Behold, the Lord requireth the heart and a willing mind; and the willing and obedient shall eat the good of the land of Zion in these last days.
35 And the rebellious shall be cut off out of the land of Zion, and **shall be sent away**, and shall not inherit the land.
36 For, verily I say that the rebellious are not of the blood of Ephraim, wherefore they shall be **plucked out.**
      Doctrine and Covenants 64:34-36
Note that these verses ☝️ *don't* say the problem for the rebellious was that after all their cavalier rebellion they failed to ultimately plead for mercy at the last minute... It's because they were rebellious and unrepentant when it mattered, when there was still a time of testing/probation remaining. **After** the time of testing/probation is over, any claim to sudden "repentance" is inherently hollow. In the words of Elder Neal A. Maxwell, "And, if you sense that one day every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord, why not do so now? For in the coming of that collective confession, it will mean much less to kneel down when it is no longer possible to stand up!"
D&C 76 clarifies what happens to those who successfully repent *after* this life or time of testing/probation is passed (instead of during it):
74 Who received not the testimony of Jesus in the flesh, but **afterwards** received it.
79 These are they who are *not valiant* in the testimony of Jesus [they didn't try to repent and keep the commandments while there was still time]; wherefore, they **obtain not the crown** over the kingdom of our God.
May we all repent and turn to the Lord, *today.* In the words of President Nelson, "Please do it now. Time is running out." (In other words, there *will* be a time when it will be "too late.")

    • @andrewdurfee3896
      @andrewdurfee3896 2 роки тому +15

@@jaredscott8027 The answer to that is simple. Shame does not comes from God. Guilt on the other hand is like the pain receptors in bodies that inform us that we are in danger or need to change what we are doing. Guilt can lead one to turn away from destructive lifestyles and thus save their life. This is Godly sorrow which leads to life eternal vs earthly sorrow which sorrows that they can’t have happiness in sin. The world in the great and spacious building mocks those who try to follow God and hearken to His living apostles and prophets. The world tries to make them feel ashamed for doing so. Calling someone to repent is an act of love which purpose is to help redirect them back to Heavenly Father. Guilt says you did something wrong. Shame says their is something wrong with you or that your worthless. This has not been what has been taught by the apostles or prophets of God. Your claim that Elder Bednar uses “shame doctrine “ is not true.

    • @asdfghjklqwertyui93
      @asdfghjklqwertyui93 2 роки тому +8

Thanks for the invitation to consider whether shame comes from God. Short answer: it absolutely can.
      Longer:
9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made **sorry [shamed/embarrassed/disappointed] after a godly manner**, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.
10 For **godly sorrow** worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
      2 Corinthians 7:9-10
6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth [corrects, rebukes, shames], and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
      Hebrews 12:6-7
3 Yea, wo unto this people who are called the people of Nephi except they shall repent, when they shall see all these signs and wonders which shall be showed unto them; for behold, they have been a chosen people of the Lord; yea, the people of Nephi hath he loved, and also hath he chastened them; yea, in the days of their iniquities hath he chastened them because he loveth them.
      Helaman 15:3
29 And now, my son, I desire that ye should let these things trouble you no more, and only let your sins trouble you, with that **trouble [shame, guilt, remorse, godly sorrow]** which shall bring you down unto repentance.
      Alma 42:29
The *foolish* man built his house upon the sand. The *foolish* virgins have insufficient oil in their lamps. How is the condemnatory label "foolish" related to shame? 👈 Who taught these parables explicitly labeling (or might we say *shaming*) the "foolish" characters? 🤷‍♂️🤔
And on and on. Many are called, few are chosen (or "wise," rather than "foolish"). And why are they not chosen? In part, because their hearts are so set upon the things of this world (such as pride and the praise of men) that they cannot bear godly *shame* (chastening/reproof/correction inviting us to do better).
Jared, I invite you (and all who feel shame is inherently shameful and ungodly) to sincerely and prayerfully study the scriptures listed under "chastening" in the topical guide and reconsider whether shame can come from God:

One of my favorite talks from this conference! The only part I didn't love was when he said "after all we can do." We are saved by grace and grace alone, we cannot serve our way into Heaven. If we could, we would not have needed a Savior. It seems clear to me that Nephi meant "despite." "...for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do." Despite all we can do, we cannot save ourselves. Only God's grace can do that ❤️ I don't know that Bednar was saying anything contrary to that, but I know there are people who think we can earn our way into Heaven and we can't. However, our actions DO show God where we would be most comfortable in Heaven.

it's true that we are saved by grace and are totally dependant upon Jesus Christ... the "after all we can do" means that we are still responsible followers of our Lord and we demonstrate our appreciation to Him through our willing obedience. " If ye Love me, Keep my commandments"
Jesus also stated: "...what manner of men ought ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am"

@@NsTheName I think what that saying means is that grace won't save us if we don't do our part of following God's laws sufficiently. First, we have to live a life of obedience, and then after we've done all of that and we die, Christ's grace will save us. It's required that we do our part, that's how we qualify for that grace, especially the grace that takes us to the Celestial Kingdom.

He was just quoting scripture, sounds like you have an issue to take up with Nephi. :)
People who understand how covenants work understand the relationship between works and grace. Christ provides the grace and the salvation. As part of our covenant relationship, we have faith, repent, serve, and try to be like the Savior. Doing these things helps us become more like Him.

We are all saved through Christ’s grace-everyone will be resurrected. However, our actions determine what kingdom we will attain, and even then, repentance comes by His grace. The “saved” that Elder Bednar is referring to is achieving the highest degree of the celestial kingdom-eternal increase.

Scrubbing for the preparation of the New Kingdom. ❤❤❤

ISAIAH 52:1 “Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion" JUDGES 5:12 "Awake, awake, Deborah, awake, awake" - DEBORAH means BEE 🐝👑 and MOTHER OF ISRAEL - While ZION IS GIVING BIRTH TO HER CHILDREN in the Bible ⚜️

I would like to ask him why he seemed to emphasize at the 10:50 mark "After" all we can do.
He seemed to pause and then add emphasis to the "After". Why?

    • @omacookie

Because that was the emphasis of his talk, what we need to do to be at the wedding.

@@omacookie But, it is a misreading of the verse and places "Grace" as a response to sin. It says that God's Grace kicks in AFTER we have done our part. That is backwards, even within the parable that he is discussing. It is clear that God's Grace was the completely Free invitation to the feast, there was NOTHING asked of the invitees to be invited. The man's rejection of the garment is another physical symbol of a spiritual and psychological lesson. He is rejecting God's Grace, and his refection came "After" the invitation.
Grace is not God's backup plan, it is and was his original plan from times advent. There is no "After" all we can do. After is an idiom for "In spite of". His Grace is sufficient, his pure love is the only power capable of actually transforming the human heart. We don't do ANYTHING to merit his Grace, we only accept it or reject it. The pure love of Christ is just that, "Pure love", the kind that is given freely with all the risks of getting nothing in return. Love or Mercy are not love or Mercy if there are conditions attached. We don't keep his commandments to get him to love us. We, as 1 John 4:19 states, love him because he first loved us.
Elder Bednar's emphasis confuses the order of operations, it reverses it, and makes his Grace available only "After all we can do". This is simply not correct.

Question. What is the difference between these 2 groups in this parable, and who are they: 1) those who were bidden but were not worthy & 2) the good and bad ones found in the highway later?? Is the first group the Jews, the first ones to be invited? Are we the worthy ones found in the highway?

Hi there, Elder Bednar said "The invitation is to all men and women. An individual may even accept the invitation and sit down at the feast-yet not be chosen to partake because he or she does not have the appropriate wedding garment of converting faith in the Lord Jesus and His divine grace. Thus, we have both God’s call and our individual response to that call, and many may be called but few chosen.22
To be or to become chosen is not an exclusive status conferred upon us. Rather, you and I ultimately can choose to be chosen through the righteous exercise of our moral agency." You can find more information here: www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2022/10/46bednar?lang=eng

The Parables of the times, we be in , in the last days , in the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints .
The book of Mormon , teachings be , a talk a language that Parables all things.
So does the Bible , both speak of how we should prepare.
The living Prophets in the restored restoration of the church of Jesus Christ , speak as a child to be prepared for now , as it Parables over to the Bible and the Bible to book of Mormon.
We , have Parables because they speak as One , to the season we be in , to over come the world.
Look around , as the Parable teachings is.
Ok , the law is the law , as commandments be more to , notice by the language by law , simple as a child learns them.
A Parable teaching speaks to the season as , the holy Ghost be the guid to know.
The Prophet speaks , we can judge correctly on , the season others be in by what time they be in as they membership the Parable season they be by the law opportunity and blessings they be in at baptism by truth.
Some and many , do not serve a mission as , it be , a law by the parable to all thoes that do not , by the knowledge of season they be in at faith age they be baptized by repenting as done it whole as the scriptures teach.
We have to be careful now what we do to uplifting the spirit by the opportunity and blessings they did not receive as a child young man to do so by law and repenting to make perfect what aint to the law by Parable teachings the truth.
Lots of , things can confuse the converting , a convert to fath the law and law the faith by blessings and opportunities making one season one is parable to the knowledge of heaven.
Some Parables speak faith teach the law at the beginning as they do the meridian and the end to gospel teach the first and last without days to number the end of dispensation as transgression and sin can be better understanding of the place the tree of life be eaten to the first and second resurrection as one Parable in all the kingdoms making order in law the Parable in them all , the first coming with the last we take in them all to be as Jesus Christ is.
If they be no law a Parable by faith is to season the holy ghosts in them all by the articles of faith to teach a guid to this understanding transgression are sin.
The Parable teaching is Parable to commandments the season you be in by law the truth to , opportunity and blessings that be by choice to opportunity and blessings that was to now be available by opportunity and blessings as we teach how some did not have the opportunity and blessings to do so by not belonging to the season available to them but will by time and eternity by following Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ understands and to be like is available by opportunity and blessings yours by time and eternity to be in the season to have made by opportunity and blessings the agency agents we be in for time and eternity as we seek the fulfillment of the gospel in its entirety to the Manifestation to all Nations all people and tongue Jesus is the Christ the Eternal God convincing Jew and Gentile , the covenants the lord makes with the fathers they know they are not cast of forever , to dispensation knowledge the faith to be made whole by law the truth to commandments , commandments in the truth the opportunity made to witness the ones by whole to fath belive as done to the new and everlasting covenant by blood sacrifice , and blood sacrifice to the new and everlasting covenant by both ways one as temple is by the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints , as the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints is to the temple.
We be prepared to stand before Jesus Christ to witness Grace and the opportunity to blessing the law by truth the commandments make , by the children turning their hearts to the fathers and fathers hearts to his children to fullfiing the responsibility on earth to the Parables we learn the blessings of heaven transgression to sin and how the creation be made to rule the law by commandments to be fulfilled by the first and last as we move to now , as a member becomes whole wevcan by following the Prophet heal the family tribe by one by opportunity and blessings exaltation Eternal life to be with family forever by the being like Jesus Christ , in being one as the God head is one by Parable learning to be One.
We stay focused , on now holding the iron rod over coming the world being ready to partake of everlasting life to eternity by eating from the tree of life as Jesus Christ teachings be by the first and the last by another testament of Jesus Christ teachings the opportunity to blessings by agency we be coming to be born again by faith to knowledge , Opposition all things to season the Dispensation we be in to them all by Parable teaching , that be by faith as done by knowledge , knowledge to faith done Opposition a Parable teaching as the first and last is , to Kingdom them all One by opportunity by blessings the agents we be to a law coming to earth by thy will to see them all , by the choices we make to thy will be done in the last destination as they be in them all , to the dispensation we be in by opportunity and blessings whole by Grace and Charity miracles to faith the articles of faith individual together One by time and eternity a marvelous work and wonder.

This talk is confusing. Bednar seems to say that the people didn't have a choice but to go to the feast. And then later said the guy not wearing the clothing "wanted to attend" the feast but chose not to wear the garment. Those two don't coexist. If he didn't want to go but was forced to, not wearing the garment makes the scenario completely different than what the talk is trying to say. Overall I think this is a poor, convoluted example.

When "listen" or "hearken" is said in the Bible, going back to the meaning of the original term did not simply mean hear, but to listen with the intent to obey. Just a note I picked up.

Perhaps he remained speechless because he was meant to be present in nonconformity? Not all who are chosen are of the ways you perceive to be acceptable? Godliness is not of conformity!

Suppose the king was wicked. Suppose the man did not want to support the kings family in wearing the wedding garment. These parables can always be turned and twisted for any narrative. With Conference, it's always members against nonmembers. I used to think Christ was part of this church.

    • @darrisellis8810
      @darrisellis8810 2 роки тому

Actually Non-members aren't even in the ball park or arena. The 10 virgins isn't about active vs inactive either. It's about ALL THOSE WEARING THE WEDDING GARMENTS AND WHO ARE UNDER COVENANT IN THE TEMPLE. In otherwords those who are inactive or less active are not even in the running. They dropped out of the race a long time ago. These parables are about the elect and righteous who all have recommends and are under covenant to live accordingly. Half are considered foolish because they are essentially hypocrites and though they have recommends only go through the motions but aren't truly converted and faithful. If you think this was to pit you against the active your mistaken. ALL who are unfaithful regardless of thier open rebellion, hypocritical lip service or thier calculated intent to decieve thier King will have the same reward. They will not make the cut. 50% of the most righteous and elect will not make the cut because for one reason or another their devotion was lacking. If you are already outside of the last thinning of the herd you were cut off awhile ago because of your own agency. You chose not to even attend the wedding feast when called. You were never given the opportunity to be a hypocrite or a deciever who snuck in without a wedding garment. You kicked yourself out of the kingdom before the feast was ever scheduled. The good news friend is its not to late to come back. Though the hour is very, very, very late, the Lord would and is willing to recieve you if you turn back to him with true sincerity and full purpose of heart. I will warn you that there is so very little time. However it is never to late until the call is made and the door is shut. Please come back quickly, sincerely and completely and you will find refuge from what is about to hit.

As a side note the Parable can't be twisted. The meaning doesn't get to be arbitrary. We can't suppose the King was wicked or that the individuals didn't want to support the king because the King was wicked! Those ideas are arbitrary unstated man-made ideas that change the very meaning and true interpretation of the parable. If the King was wicked it would have been stated. If the man was unsupportive due to the kings wickedness it would have been stated. However the parable only states relevant, pertinent information that conveys eternal truths.
