Colette Daiute, skater No. 3, Miss Teenage America 1966, is now a professor, researcher and author in the field of psychology at Harvard and Columbia universities. How about dat ?
One of the most endearing things anout TTTT is the ending, starting in about 1963 or so, when the challengers & panel go out to meet & chat. Marvelous episode & I got them all right for a change....Peggy Fleming, I knew her, but I guessed the other 2 !!! Thanks for the upload !
Gorgeous Peggy her gold medal in 1968 Olympics in France was the highlight of the Olympics that year and she was so perfect and beautiful America was so proud of her she is one of America's greatest athletes Thanks Peggy for the wonderful memories
This was in the time where the skaters had to do "school figures". Peggy did very well in that category. There was one skater in the 70s who excelled in the school figures but stank in her long program and was awarded the Gold.. I'm glad those school figures have gone the way of the Dodo and we now have Short Program/ Long Program. It's more exciting!!🎈🎈
I instantly recognized Peggy Fleming, as we are the same age. I thought she was the most beautiful woman ever, when I watched her win the Olympic gold in '68.
Peggy Fleming was always so feminine and graceful. I lived listening to her figure skating commentary back when she was in television. She and Dick Button made a great team.
The great Peggy Fleming = talent, grace, and dignity. She is still with us at age 84. May God bless her always. I guess the panel did not watch Wide World of Sports with the legend Jim McKay where they would have seen Peggy skating and winning. She was unknown to all but skating fans at that time most likely.
I was fairly certain that I knew which one was Peggy Fleming, even though I hadn't seen her or her picture in years. I was right. It was the shape of her face... The Maoris have pretty singing voices.
Vera Hrubá Ralston was a Czech skater from the '30s. She came to the US and appeared in many Hollywood movies in the '40s. Wouldn't really expect the young ladies to know who she was, not sure why he brought her up.
I was eight in 1966. I knew number one was Peggy . I didn't remember her from 1966 but from the 1968 Olympics where she won the gold medal (The only 68 Winter Olympian to do so) and then her own TV broadcast specials as well as other skating events and announcing skating events including the Olympics. . She is beautiful and I have always had a crush on her . She has also been married to the same man since 1970 . She also didn't start skating until 1961
What isn't mentioned is that America's preeminence in figure skating was lost in one tragic moment, when the core of the U.S. team was killed in a plane crash en route to the 1961 world championships. Fleming and other developing skaters had to be brought up sooner than expected (she finished 6th in the 1964 Innsbruck Games)
The important thing that wasn't mentioned by Bud Collier is that Peggy, being an amateur competitor, could NOT accept her share of the winnings but would instead designate a charity or sports federation etc. to receive the money.
1.) More and more, as I begin watching these kinescopes, I can tell which episodes of a particular episode originally aired in b&w and which aired in color, especially from 1965-1968. 2.) Collette Daiute, the Miss Teen for 1966, actually made a cameo on a third season episode of "The Patty Duke Show", some weeks or months before her appearance here, and 3.) Bud Collyer was the voice of Superman both on radio and the Fleischer Brothers cartoon shorts of the 1940's. He was reprising the role, this time for Filmation. On top of that, he was simultaneously doing the voice of Superboy, also for Filmation.
Amazing she was not that well known at this point. I'm guessing the 1966 World Championships did not air (surprising because you'd think that would have been on ABC's Wide World of Sports, at that time the premier sports show).
That's exactly why. The ultimate deception would to put an athlete in an outfit that made them look dumpy. in this case, though, it was unmistakable who had the figure skater's body.
Peggy wore that simple green costume during her skating routine. Today's outfits are so skimpy and revealing that it makes you think they think the judges wouldn't see any mistakes while looking at their nothingness. I think their outfits should be OKed.
Wearing a chartreuse-green dress had nothing to do with being Irish. Grenoble (Olympic site) was near the French city Chartreuse where the liqueur of the same name & color is made. Peggy said in an interview that she & her mother (who designed and made her outfits) thought that the mostly French audience would appreciate and enjoy the "nod" to that fact!
@@hobonickel The Winter Olympics wasn't well published then (remember, this is before the internet) It might have been shown on TV once, and that's about it.
Orson Bean is one of reasons I don't like the game, but still have seen nearly all. I believe IMO that he's an alcoholic. He gulps through water like chain water habit.
Dr Sauer was actually a well known researcher Surprised they did not pick up on his German accent - of course had they provided the name he published under - EGFranz Sauer it would have been too obvious
I'm impressed by the poi demonstration because, when I tried to do poi, I first hit myself in the head and then in the crotch. At least the poi were more forgiving than the nunchucks.
Funny the percentage of commenters who said how pretty Peggy Fleming was (is?), but I think the thumbnail to this vid is very unflattering (whomever that is in the thumbnail) I haven't even watched this vid yet because I am "saving" it for when I can relax and get the popcorn out, but mebbe you can pick a different thumbnail? I was 8 years old in 1966 and I remember my mother commenting how much she enjoyed watching PF in the Olympics.
The name "maori" isnt spelt mowry. And these ladies arent very maori tbh. I come from New Zealand. Also interesting that one girl said they dont exist anywhere else. A lot live in other countries like Australia. They originate in NZ but they do exist other places, even in 1966.
I am just tired of the hate slinging or hurt feeling comedy. Orson was able to make me chuckle in a silly 6 year old kind of humor way. He was way before my time but I wish we could have that humor come back
Once again, as in so many of these TTTT shows, Orson Bean goes for the comedy and miserably fails. He just isn't funny. He gets very little information out of the challengers. I'm surprised Goodson/Todman put up with him as long as they did. Sad.
buds proselytizing is annoying, saying "god bless you" to a people who don't follow any traditional western religion, except western invaders did force a cultural appropriation on many of them.
Get over yourself. You probably don’t like Merry Christmas either. I hear and read non-Christians say “prayers for you” when somebody is having troubles. Saying God bless you is not proselytizing. Telling them about salvation in Jesus is.. before your time America had more respect for religion even if they weren’t religious. They referred to the Bible as, the good book.
Peggy Fleming was the most graceful and elegant figure skater in the world. IMO
Still love you Peggy😘

She was the only American to win a gold medal in those Olympics.
Once Peggy dominated the 1968 Winter Olympics, she would have been too well known to be on To Tell The Truth.
I think she won the only gold for the USA in the 1968 winter Olympic games!

@@janeiwasduncan8463 I watched a documentary...it was Janet Lynn whose performance brought about the end of school figures.
Yes that is correct.
When I was in the Marine Corps in the late 60s I kept a picture of Peggy on the inside of my wall locker.
Best episode in sports history!!
One of the best burns in recent show memory when Peggy I said Peggy II was too young to know who Orson was.
agree I lost it when she zinged that one at him
I loved that too. It was great to see him knocked down a peg or two.

Peggy Fleming was a beautiful girl. She could have given Miss Teen America (#3) a run for her money.
And she is still beautiful☺️
She always has been beautiful, indeed.
Love it when the entire panel guesses wrong!
I am addicted to the show

You should hear them sing "We Wish You a Maori Christmas".
SO many great memories of Peggy😘❤️❤️

Why the hell would they bring that up?

It was the entire US figure skating team that was killed, all 18 plus 54 other people including the flight crew.
why would they mention that downer on a game show?

Since Kitty brought it up, I wonder why Peggy Fleming #2 did not wear something to show off her legs? That would have helped confuse the panel a bit.
That's exactly why. The ultimate deception would to put an athlete in an outfit that made them look dumpy. in this case, though, it was unmistakable who had the figure skater's body.
Peggy Fleming wore a green colored costume when winning gold in Grenoble.Green was lucky for here like she said.

The Mowry people care. They're tired of being confused with the Maori.

they should have gotten rid of orson bean a long time ago. he messes up every episode i have seen. what the heck did the producers see in him ??
Many people loved Orson.
Michaela Shiffrin could be on the show today, and most wouldn't know her; and she is the best skier in the world for the past 6 years....
True. FS then was considered a European sport. Similar to soccer. Even today Americans see these sports as "non native."
