The Lone Ranger is probably as significant to the US as Robin Hood is to the UK, both seen as real legendary people to admire as role models. I remember in the early 60s getting annuals of both, and the characters were alive as anyone could be. Great memories.
Polly laying the smackdown on Bud! Bud was always a true professional. The Lone Ranger on both radio and television was along with my Dad, a personal hero to me. Good triumphing over evil. Once in a while, the show puts in a twist as in game 1.
Fabulous show back in the day! Famous celebrities. Ralph Bellamy's portrayal of Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 'Sunrise at Campobello' (1960) was outstanding!
I'm just wondering why the 3 ladies on the first panel were all seated at the start of the show rather than on top of the lift. Perhaps one of them was handicapped in some way and the producers did that as a courtesy to her. That's just a guess, probably wrong. :)
Greg and Dr. James--I agree with both of you. I guessed this one correctly. I thought the response of one of the imposters was a little snarky, and felt that if she'd been the real one, she wouldn't have done that on TV. That would be bad for her business.
miss scribner's bookstore...if contestant in game 2 lives on Governor's Island he must be connected to the military in some way either himself or family. I was only there once about the time of this show, when the public was allowed to visit. Now it's open.
The 2nd contestants. ... I'm with Polly Bergen. Listening "to a rabbit dying while being killed by a larger animal" is one of the saddest things I've ever heard! Now a days, 60 years later this would not have been put up with in broadcasting!!
Nowadays, 50% of the categories represented by these contestants would not have been permitted on the air because the public would have raised holy hell. And good for us that we have evolved so that needless animal and human suffering has become so distasteful.
They said there was a broadway production and motion picture based on them. I saw the trailer and I doubt any of it was based on them. I understand they need to change things up to make it interesting, but I just think it probably was just based on the fact they started the bells. Idk.
how come tom poston had been mostly correct? even when other three chose one, tom had chosen the other one, which was right. this happened several times. he had impressive record of selecting the right person.
@afr1952 & @@stanbrown32 , the best story I heard about Bud being Superman was that when the guy who played Jimmy Olson was live on the air, Bud would start to undress Jimmy while Jimmy was trying to say his lines lol
I kinda get annoyed when the contestant gets asked about productions based on their work (unless they own the rights to it or produced it) or other trivia. There are things that might be of interest to people in their field of work, but it doesn't mean they know every little thing that's out there. Just because a production was based on something they did doesn't mean they will remember who wrote the music or things like that. Except for the story, they may not have had anything to do with the making of the show. I have no problem with trivia directly related to their field of work like terms they should know. It's just seems silly to judge someone on trivia that wasn't directly related to their profession or day-to-day experience.
I sometimes wonder if they ask just to get a sense of what the contestant knows--do they answer too quickly like they tried to look up and memorize something?
Finding out that the first contestant was the inspiration for that great musical is incredible! What an education this show is!

I loved this show when i was a little kid! It was fun to try and guess the right one!
The researchers and producers really did their homework
#2 in the second group Is the best Liar I've ever seen on To Tell The Truth!

I noticed that, too. It looks like they stand up at the end, but they are not shown walking away.

I suspect that #3 was pregnant. The camera avoided her body and she may have wanted to avoid the loft AND the stairs...?
According to Wikipedia , the real Mary Printz had polio.
@@900milesfromnormal3 Just like Bill Cullen. The cameras avoided filming him walking and his show set ups avoided making have to stand or walk.
I hate the thought of varmint callers. Calling animals just to kill them is a horrible thing.
finally someone got it right. kemosabe does not mean friend it means trusty scout like he said-and he knows
Well that was a horrifying demonstration from the hunter.
Damn, number 2 on round 2 had me convinced. Smart kid.
Thank you !!
Sadly, Fran Striker died in an automobile accident almost one year after this episode was broadcast.
She Struck out ?
Actually almost 2 years
@@BigEightiesNewWave WTF Buff ?
JKNUTTEL So with all the money that Fran Striker would have been getting you'd wonder why he never spruced up his "chompers!"
2 years. Was 1962, 4th September.

The lone ranger is based on U.S. Marshall Bass Reeves. A Black U.S. marshall who worked in the Oklahoma territory and had an Indian scout.
Yes I'm from Oklahoma and lots of real cowboys we're black. But they don't get much publicity.
That's a myth. Read this:

Absolutely disgusting !!!
Lady #3 in Game #1
Man #1 in Game #2
Man #1 in Game #3
Still jerk
Please remove this moronic troll from the comments section
Polly always seemed to have the exact same hairstyle on TTTT and this time when she changed it, I hate it!! LOL Ralph has a striking ring on.
Buffalo NY was first episode of The Lone Ranger. 👍
What was the reason for the first contestants not introducing themselves and walking down the stairs?
Maybe , one is handicapped !!!!???? I was thinking the same thing !!!!
The hunter making sounds of a rabbit being killed was creepy as hell.
I'm sooo good I picked one on the Lone Ranger and one on the hunter.

Indeed The Lone Ranger did originate in WXYZ in Detroit!
Umm, no offense, but i will believe the creator 50+ years ago over you.
Yea and the originator of the character lied? yea sure
What a horrible sound--a rabbit being killed.
Thanks for the warning. On to the next episode, then. 😢🐰
What did Polly do to her hair🤔

Of course, Bud Collyer was the voice of radio's Superman.
afr1952 and also the voice of Superman on the 1960s cartoons.
@afr1952 & @@stanbrown32 , the best story I heard about Bud being Superman was that when the guy who played Jimmy Olson was live on the air, Bud would start to undress Jimmy while Jimmy was trying to say his lines lol
I mentioned in the comments of another program that he looks very much like George Reeves who starred as Superman in the 1950s TV series.
Bud also did the voices of "Clark Kent & Superman"for the "Superman"movie cartoons of the 1940's.
That was a random statement
Roger Forster is the announcer.
When I heard he was going to make a sound of a wounded rabbit being killed I moved on quickly! Intolerable thought.
Glad I read the comments first.
I'm outta here. 😢
The panel really got fooled on this one!
Pollys hair is awful here.
Oh ... I thought he was talking about a "loan arranger" --- someone at a bank who facilitates the lending of money.
kitty carlisle is a real bowser! a detriment to the program.
Why did Polly kiss Bud on the lips?
He had been in broadcasting for 25 years
Polly also interrupted Kitty's plug for her fashion special. She didn't like that!! 😝
Polly Bergen was married in 1960 , yet , Bud calls her Miss !!!!
her husband's name is not Bergen so it would be improper to call her "Mrs. Bergen"
Bergen is her maiden name. Cant call her Mrs Bergen.

Kitty , you can't say that on TV !!!!
Why would you post who the real people are before people have watched this video???
???
Don't read the comments until after the show.
They all look like Franz Stryker!!!🤪🤪🤪
I didn't like the varmint segment at all. The call at the end... 😱😱😱😱😱
I didn't listen to it. Very bad taste even for those days.
25th year in broadcasting?? I spent 52 years in broadcasting and no one congratulated me.
Congrats. Did u get a Timex ?
@@joeambrose3260 Nope.
Not one person ever congratulated you? Weird
screw the hunter . Larry Ellison sounds familer , will investigate
A good looking young man...
Well, it's been over 3 years. Find anything yet ?
Very nice of Polly to recognize Bud Collyer, but that hairdo of hers had to go
Is it just me, but there seems to be the same stars on each of these game shows..
no, just you.
Ben Davison Well just Polly.
The shows were produced by Goodson/Toddman and these stars were probably under contract to them.
Tom Postman.
Anyone watch the program Split Personality, starring, Tom Poston ?? ?? 🎈🎈🎈
No.1 "a girl"??????
Ralph Bellamy asked the most inane questions!
Why did the Lone Ranger get mad at Tonto? He finally found out that kemosabe meant SOB..
Polly's annoying and I don't like her, but I did have to laugh when she said, "I live with my husband."
I feel the same bout Peggy Cass but Polly isn't far behind
@@joeambrose3260 Peggy's always annoying. Polly is delightfully daffy (on purpose).
