    I had a high school English teacher that loved to make fun of and humiliate girls/women. One year, he was engaged and had a wedding planned once school let out. He went on and on about how we girls should never let our husbands see us without our hair and makeup done. We girls should wake up one hour before our husbands and get made up and dressed up for our husbands. And we should wait until after our husbands had gone to sleep before removing the make up and changing out of our dressy clothes. ---- When school started back up for the next school year, he was getting a divorce.

      That is a great idea as a parent! I studied media influence on girls in college. It’s insane the amount it changes their worldview and idea of self. As well as assessment of their worth and potential. (Kids equally say they want to be president when they grow up but girls hit preteens and it drops off to mostly only boys). Ambition and value redirect towards looks because it’s so clear to them their worth in this world is beauty contingent.
      We went over untouched vs edited media and watched a video of every single edit going into an add campaign model/shot who was already beautiful and perfect-even her arms and thighs were taken in and her face shape and eye shape and brow altered.
      So I wish all moms thought to do this kind of thing and reminded their daughters that celebrities don’t come out of the womb that perfect and often have work done and professional chefs, hair and makeup artists, endless expensive beauty treatments, etc. on top of every model you see in photos never being perfect enough for the editor.
      Also the adds that accidentally make an arm, shoulder, leg shape impossible (like fully removing knees) without noticing they’ve done so…are hilarious. Like, that’s not a human anymore.

      That one made me tear up a bit. She reminds me of my friend, Rebecca. Becca has mental illness (bipolar, BPD), and when she was younger she was addicted to meth and living on the streets, and she lost her teeth and has dentures now.
      I first met her 15 years ago, when she was clean and sober and I thought she was one of the most beautiful women I'd ever seen. She's a tiny, petite person who did physical labor on her off-grid homestead with her boyfriend, so she was very strong and fit with a rockin' bod. She has thick, curly auburn hair most women would kill for. She laughed when I told her she looked like an Irish version of Tinkerbelle, she said, "Yeah, I'm Tinker HELL!"
      They hit hard times, lost their land after vandals burned down the cabin they built themselves and the state took their property and sold it for back taxes. They both started drinking and drugging again, and broke up. She got into an abusive relationship with another guy, and had an "accident" on his property and broke her neck (I'm pretty sure he had something to do with it).
      I lost touch with her years ago, so I didn't know any of this until I ran into her a couple of years ago while she was recovering from her injuries and living in a sober-living house. She was clean and looked so much better, but I'd love for some make-up artist to give her a makeover. Maybe then she would see herself the way I do; as a very beautiful woman who deserves good things in life!
      I used to see her at the mental health clinic where we both attended group therapy, but those meetings stopped when Covid hit and I don't know where she is now. I'm sure it's no surprise to anyone that I suffer from mental illness, but I'm trying to do better. This country is sorely lacking in resources to help people with mental illness, especially if one is poor.
      Just another reason I love Charlotte so much, she speaks openly about her own mental health struggles and is very understanding about the challenges we face. I used to have neighbors who were friendly, until one found out I spent 4 days in a mental hospital on suicide watch after my husband of 15 years left me for his girlfriend (no, I did not attempt it, just lost my will to live). She gossiped to other neighbors that I was "crazy", so most avoid me now. I guess they think depression is contagious! 🙄

      Agreed! I'm looking at a 30k full dental reconstruction in my future (it's a lot of pennies to save, but it's the best option to avoid needing a full jaw reconstruction later if I'd get dentures). I'm only 39 and only have 7 teeth left due to genetics and childhood illness. Every time I see that woman's vids I tear up bc I know that pain and how cruel people are. The assumptions about how you lost your teeth that somehow always imply you're dirty, a junkie, gross, and/or stupid because you're missing teeth. I haven't smile-smiled in like 20 years bc of it. When I got there I realised that I was worrying about nothing! I saw that everyone has ‘flaws’ and I felt great! I’d lost a bit of confidence lately after having another baby, but my body confidence went right up! I know I’m no super model but I had really been giving myself a hard time and being there made me realise how stupid I was being! Sure, I’d have preferred a face of make up that wouldn’t come off, but I honestly forgot all about it. I even saw a hot guy watching me and seemed to appear in each section I went to. • @Sam_gg_
      @Sam_gg_ 2 роки тому +30

      @@healinggrounds19 girl I don't know you and how you do your makeup or the condition of your skin etc, but the skin will always be skin, we're humans, constantly living, and our skin has marks, decoloration, maybe acne or pimples and over all of that, texture and pores, and the makeup just sit on it, so in real life you won't be smooth like a baby, go easy on yourself! But some tips I've learned by feeling like that and trying my best is first of all, skin care; the best you take care of your skin, the best condition it will be on and the best the makeup will look. Prep real good, not only before makeup but after and nightly, never skip cleaning and moisturising, and put sunblock every morning, also before makeup, even if you're not going out; it depends on your skin but you can look up on yt, I'd recommend going to a dermatologist. Oh and drink water, your body and your face will thank you for that, and it really does a big difference if you're hydrated on how you look 🖤 For makeup itself it depends on your skin type and choosing a nice foundation (nice is not the same as pricey, my fav is the L'Oréal Infallible), but a really nice trick is better apply soft/small layers and build it up from there than put a lot and end up looking like you're melting or all cakey. And my fav, for bronzer and blush, use first a cream/liquid bronzer and blush and then the powders; that's a general rule, never mix steps, but first all the liquid/creams and then when they're settled, put the powders (so it doesn't get muddy). And over all of that, practise, don't give up and be creative, sometimes it turns out good, sometimes bad but you have to keep going,, learning and improving; practice makes perfect so find little by little what's goes best for you and your style, and go hard on the confidence bc I haven't seen you but I know you're gorgeous 🖤 (sorry if my English is bad and sorry for the Bible I've written, not my first language and I'm a little bit intense 🥺)

Angles and lighting are everything.

    • @krisdiane
      @krisdiane 2 роки тому +1

      @@susanandrews2294 I would argue that the contouring is altering "to an extent" and that most of the extreme change we see in this is the face altering filters. Shadows do trick the eye, and lights and angles can make an enormous difference, but making actual changes to the size of the eyes, chin, jaw, nose, and lips with a filter will make a profound difference to how the overall face looks. The sparkling people with no pores do not look so profoundly different without the filter.

If someone doesn't like you for who you are, they are probably not worth your time.

    Charlotte...thank you so much for talking about the woman who lost her teeth from a disease. I had perfect teeth (wore braces for 4 1/2 years). I lived in a town for 4 years and no one told us the water was contaminated. I brushed my teeth 3 times a day with that water, cooked with it and made coffee and lemonade with it. Three years ago they removed all of my teeth. I cried for 2 weeks straight and refused to leave the house for 2 months. I have since learned that my smile was nothing because most people forget that I don't have teeth. It has been proven to me that your personality is what truly good people see more than anything. Never be ashamed of who you are or how you look...we are all queens and kings in our own way! ❤ By the way, I don't have dentures yet (and yes...wearing masks is still pretty awesome for me 🤣🤣).

Quite often if one of us met someone they thought could be a possible long term prospect we would invite them along on a weekend trip down a river or on a lake cruise. It gave an opportunity to see how they looked without makeup and after an uncomfortable night on the ground in a tiny tent. Not just appearance but temperament was honestly laid bare to both party's' benefit. We all saw each other at our worst early on. A great time saver.

      Refreshing to hear your comment Bob. I think you guys had it right thst's awesome. I wish there was more of that today. So much make-up , to me is being completely made up. I thought these so called "transformations" made some of them look nothing like they did before and that to me is just fake. Most men don't want all that made over look. And besides, if you can't show the world you as a natural wothout the make up then the beauty you try to presnt isn't anymore real. And at the end of the day it's gonna come off and then who you see is the real you. I used to wear alot more makeup in my 20's back in the bar days. And I always used to say you know it's not real and I prefer a man that would meet me when I was natural without makeup and not all dolled- up, so he can decide if hes attracted to more than mere physical rather than would look beyond and discover the beauty that only grows with age - personality, humour, intelligence, spirit etc. The shell will fade in time but what's inside and left will be what remains. Now I rarely wear much makeup and feel more confident in my own skin and presence, knowing that I don't need it all and never did, just took time to discover it. I think there's emphasizing what's there and enhancing your feature then there's outeageous and looks no where near natural. So call me old-fashioned but Im not on bored with all the made-up looks, fakeness overboard and far from real with all the filtering and photo-shopping. Plus, all the Layers upon layers of make-up these people putting on their skin will age the skin and make them look older far before their time. Even at my most made-up look I'd wear, it still never was as much as these "influencers" put on, and I could still see me and others knew who I was with it. I recall a number of times, someone might say to me, " Oh I like your make-up, when I'd hoped to hear You look pretty. " It started getting thru to me, they weren't seeing me, but they were seeing me made-up, and instead they were seeing my make-up " 👀I began to not like that feeling. I realized that as much as it was fun and artsy, it also helped me feel better about myself. And at times I knew the truth was that I was hiding behing my insecurities of not feeling pretty. Yet I realized I felt worse when all it seemed like was guys only seeing you that way and for physical looks. I missed hearing , your really smart, and funny and etc. It saddened me because their attraction seemed so superficial and I couldn't blame them when I felt so artificial. And that's when I knew I had to learn to feel good in my own skin and find my own real confidence without it all. When someone looks so far from who they are and people can't recognize them. I ask why would a person want to lose themselves. So others call it artistry, which could see since some of it looks like paint and they no longer look like the before, rather a total change from before. A canvas is blank, before you apply paint to it and create something that wasn't there before. Sorry, but I'm old school and don't agree with all the encouragement of the made upness in today's world. I question why some of it is so far from the natural look and features. I think Make-up can be used to enhance and it can also be used to hide your natural self. In the end only the individual knows why they wear it, but I don't think its always necessary and I hope someday women will feel as confident without it, when we bear our face we bare the truth. We find acceptance and love where we thought we wouldn't without it and no longer need any affirmations then our own to believe it. We no longer need to hear compliments about our looks because we see more than that. And shouldn't that be what we truly want others to see as well, because when it's real you can't fake it. Sure wear some makeup to enhance what is already there (building upon is different than changing) and some of these I could still see that but others were just too much to me imo. So to each his own, only in my book a confident woman wearing a smile au'natural (or very minimal makeup that looks natural) just happy being herself, is far more beautiful than an insecure made-up woman hiding behind a masked smile pretending to be someone else. If I could tell my younger self that I would have, but she probably wouldn't have listened, even if she heard me. It takes time for us to learn for ourselves through experience how to be confident with nothing but ourselves in our own skin without enhancements and changing the outside. When we find ourselves confident in presenting ourselves without the bravado of a mask that we wear hiding our real beauty. In finding yourself, accepting yourself and loving yourself just the way you are, without having to wear anything other than You is when you find your true and real beauty along with your inner smile. ❣️

      Yo. Everyone is at their best and grandest when they are having fun. Not so much a time saver. Some people are actually more themselves when they are under stress. This hack wasted much of my life. Bad people under bad stress are much worse than sweet people grinning in a kayak.

    I get a lot of people thinking I was a drug addict because I'm losing my teeth, but really I lost my teeth when I hit the concrete, and gravel when my heart suddenly stopped. Since then I was told I would lose the rest of my teeth by the time I was 25 years old due to trauma. I'm almost 32 and still have some teeth left, but I'm afraid to get them all pulled because I can't afford the dental care, I just pretty much watch my teeth break, and fall out while I eat, or brush my teeth. It sucks. I pretty much live on soft foods, which aren't always the healthiest, and can't eat any raw veggies at all. I know soon I'll have to get dentures, and to see someone who does have dentures, who look beautiful and shows it. Is inspiring to me, and probably to others who are going through similar situations.

      It's a skill you can learn, tbh! Nobody is born knowing how to do makeup. ;) My first lip art was lamentable, but now people often compliment my talent, which is in reality just knowledge + practice. I do 1 to 1 consultations if you'd like to learn it some time. And tutorials on my channel, of course!

      @@oldwelshlady6584 What is shown here can be done with makeup without filters. Sure, people also have good lighting and pose at the right angle, that helps to create the perfect picture, but it is still makeup. What do you mean by "try but can't do it", though? If you want a flawless artistic makeup look from the first try, of course, that's not going to happen, it requires knowledge and practice. You learn how to do different makeup elements one by one, and then you can put them all together to create whatever you want.

      Of course it's hormonal so I have to go twice a year for a touch up but it's only 20€ where I go(Italy). I don't know where you're from, but maybe you can search online and see if there are centres that offer the same service. It doesn't even hurt that much. Definitely less than a tattoo and it lasts for a minute.

      I do not know what your situation is regarding fertility and possibilities and feelings around that, and hope my comment on my experience was not a trigger for/distressing to you. I just want to say, YES to the unexpected benefits of COVID masks and YES to normalising that AFAB women are regularly shaving their faces for a bunch of reasons.
