She had the same birthday as Jcole, (Jan 28th) I remember she played this song one of the first times we hung out.. she liked the same music as me when we would share music such as Kid Cudi, Mac Miller, Chance, Jcole, Kendrick Lamar, Logic and Gambino and I would put her on to a lot of old hip hop I liked growing up. After a year we started to have feelings for each other and we dated, it wasn’t that long. We figured our relationship would be better off as friends. Because of the bond we built before we caught feelings. We were really close to each other and probably the closest friend I’ve ever had in my life.. Though we both carried feelings for each other even through high school. We lost touch after our sophomore year it, kinda sucked. It got to the point where sometimes all we would say is "wassup" passing each other through the halls. But I remember she would always skip the last hour of the day and the last time I spoke to her she brought up something I told her years ago. I remember saying goodbye to her right before the bell rang to release school. But things happenend and around the end of my Junior year of high school and she ended up taking her own life on Jan 29th, a day after her birthday. I listen to this everytime I miss her. At the time I didn’t realize it but being away from home made me really unstable since my life was so structured. I did drugs, I skipped classes, I tried everything to fit in. I was losing myself. When I failed out my parents were obviously mad and wanted me out the house so I felt shunned. Being 18 I couldn’t get a decent job and was working overnights at a ghetto food place. I masked my pain with cigarettes when I could. I remember feeling like I wanted to kill myself more and more, and things weren’t worth it, then this came out. Idk why/ how but it helped heal and give me strength and hope. Just the chorus stuck with me: “Don’t give them too much you, don’t let them take control. This one thing you do, don’t let them taint your soul” It saved my life this will always be a genuine album for me, at 26 I still have low points but this is always a reminder of what I’ve been through. Keep going!
