I lived across the street literally for yearsssssss, I am a New Yorker but I will forever be a die hard Canes fan PERIOD UNLESS THEY LIVED HERE LIKE US OR THEY GREW UP WATCHING THE U in the 80s or 90s They will never understand All day everyday THE U
Michael Irvin, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Clinton Portis, Bernie Kosar, Vinny Testaverde, Warren Sapp, Jim Kelly, Wesley Carroll, Willis McGahee, Sean Taylor. It is all about the U.
I was at the gym with It's a Canes Thing shirt on.....Chick asked me with an upset look on her face. Is that a Miami shirt??? haha That was funny to me!
@knightguy11 they played 5 ranked teams the year you're talking about.. They ended the the seminoles 54 game home unbeaten streak.. They also set an ncaa record for outscoring consecutive ranked opponents 124-7.. Btw most of the guys talking in this video are from before the 2001 national championship team
I don't know, care or think other college teams are as Insanely powerful like THE U!!! And Uncle Luke aka Luther Cambell hooking up players with Nookie and perks for TD's,,Sacks or any playmaker plays was EPIC!!! They get paid today so i don't wanna hear it... I love all my era of U teams(im genX) So VinnY,,,Erickson,,Gino but QB's was never our thang... WR's,,,TE's,,RB's & Defense Fo Sho!!!! That year McGahee got hurt was the best RB single season of dominance ive EVER SEEN!!! He went god mode... Some Say RON DAYNE did it @ Wisonsin couple years After Ricky Williams did it and broke ALL of Rickys single season records. whatevs i don't care.. Those dudes are more Edgerin James type awesome...Not That McGahee year.. He was soo full of energy like the was Laurinatis was like that Rooki CLAY MATHEWS.. If you remembe rthey were just amped up every play... That McGahee leg break hurt me badly... Then it happened again when Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown broke his leg in his amazing season where he was on fire & full of super energy. Im Not even a Dolphins fan but a Bills fan...I just respectfully HATE my rivals..And Ronnie Brown was special..i know this is THe U an dnot Dolphins... I think most GenX fans witnessed the greatest U teams in 80's-2000's GregOlsen era. All those U teams were like NFL ALLSTAR ROSTERS LOL
im a ohio state fan but i do have a lot of respect for the u, they probably is the best program in college football in terms of putting talent into the nfl. for instance they had clintin portis, willis mcghee, and frank gore all on the same roster one year. that's 3 pro bowl running backs. the list of players from the u that are now superstar pro bowlers now is just ridiculous, i mean i run out of space naming all the people the u has put into the league
You've never met me either. haha.....pretty sure I'm not on here "fighting" or arguing, I do enjoy educating people with facts. I love the Canes and I've been a Cane fan for over 30 years. Not sure what happened today with Kansas State?? Oh well it doesn't hurt them in conference. Cheers!
Why's everyone always talking about the 80's? The 2001 'Canes squad was the best team in college football history, pretty much a playoff contending NFL team with all the talent they had all around.
@BaDaZone3O5 I don't understand your grammer? I am a UCF graduate and played football for UCF. I am born and raised in south Florida. I have followed the Canes for 30+ years. **So you are very proud of the nickname "The U". It is a great "catch phrase" right up there with "roll tide", "Go Gators", "boomer sooner" etc. Miami has 4 HOF players currently. Lots of other schools have many more than that....do you understand that? Lots of other schools have more NC's also. Thats what you don't get.
The 1987 game was not a bowl game. It was a regular season game. Fact is the gators Rhonda from people that play them tough yet ironically I've never dropped Florida State who is that another conference. Both Miami and Florida State have always scheduled a monks the toughest nonconference opponents in all of college football even prior to joining any conference. Florida State shies away from nobody, and has regularly home and away games Direlle two years have included series with Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC, and countless other programs who are willing to play home and away with them. Apparently you never read what I previously wrote when I mentioned that under Bobby Bouden Florida State went seven and one versus LSU and only one game was played in Tallahassee. Florida State and Miami both play the toughest teams
+David Elias That's completely inaccurate buddy. Miami played as independents and in a joke Big East. They had soft schedules. Of course they played some tough teams but having what I call a 3 game schedule. You are delusional.
+David Elias Florida whooped Miami's ass in the 1983 opener, beat them again in 1985. Give me a break. Like I said....Florida didn't want to be locked into 2 OOC games. Give me another school that is locked into 2 OOC games? I'll be waiting.
@JB32190: They started filming this during the playoffs of 2009 I believe so teams like the Saints and were out but the Ravens were still in it so they probably couldn't do the interview.
@WestheLegend yeah, coming from a cane fan/student, that was stupid of them, golden has his work cut out for him but the guys are talented and determined, very interesting couple of seasons ahead
How many teams run the table?? Plenty. Notre Dame 1988, Washington 1991, Alabama 1992, Nebraska 94, 95, 97. Tennessee 1998, Florida State 1999, Oklahoma 2000, Texas 2005, Alabama 2009, Auburn 2010. So teams in college football go undefeated all the time....and some play in real conferences...not Independent or Big East. I just love how some guys throw out comments that sound really good, but hold no water.
@therototube2 Well...since I played football for UCF and I hold a degree from UCF...I do support the school. They actually have a pretty good history for being such a young program. I loved my time at UCF, great school and great town(Orlando). Happy to see them going into the Big East. Beat Georgia in a bowl game last year. UCF is doing just fine. A little down this year.
@BaDaZone3O5 Miami - Florida (4) Ted Hendricks , Michael Irvin , Jim Kelly , Jim Otto these are the players in the HOF from Miami, Yes, I'm sure there will be 3 or 4 more, and thats great. Keep living in the past while the current Canes try to get bowl eligible every year.
@knightguy11 Yah the 80's had longevity, that's nice, but as far as I'm concerned 2001 Miami was the best by far. Had Butch stayed with that team the 'Canes would have made the 2003-2005 USC teams look like chumps in the national championship games
Are you referring to the basketball team which made the elite 8 this year or the baseball team which is currently ranked #1, lol. Football was pretty sad last year. Feels like the Canes.
Well, if you look at my comments, they are anything but ignorant or rude in any way. You are entitled to your opinion of course. I'm a Cane fan and I'm excited about the upcoming season. Go Canes!
@Dem0nz890 Miami could be looking anywhere from a 4 to 7 win season in 2012. Look at the schedule, it's pretty tough.FSU, NC State, UNC, VT at "home field" Boston College, Duke, Georgia Tech, Virginia on the road and as for Out Of Conference play they have AT Kansas State, Notre Dame at Soldier Field (Chicago) in October, South Florida at home and Bethune Cookman at home. Bethune Cookman and Duke are the only gimme wins I see there.
Man, I'm with you...I know Al Golden from Temple, & he did a great job there, but the U is a whole different ball game. I think college football is better served when miami is good...But man, it's so sad, Miami hasn't been good or even relevant in 10 years! That is really shocking how far it has fallen and how fast...they still have talent but just can't put it all together...how bad they are this season is really sad...just getting blown out like they shouldn't!
It is part of Football ! ALABAMA did NOTHING for a DECADE ( 10 yeard ) in the 1980's, then AGAIN NOTHING from 1993 to 2009 ( 16 years ) until Nick Saban arrived. It takes a GREAT COACH, GREAT RECRUITING & GREAT PATIENCE to RE-BUILD a Program. Miami did it again from 1999-2004 Going to 3 Straight National Championship Games in 2000,2001 & 2002. 2001 is considered by MOST College Football Coaches & Historians as THE GREATEST TEAM in NCAA HISTORY !! UNDEFEATED. 17- 1st Round Draft Picks and 38 Draft Picks into the NFL from that 2001 Team. Let me say that again....17 FIRST ROUND Draft Picks. MOST in COLLEGE Football History !!!! The CANES will be back. The BRAND is too strong. Even when they have OFF years they STILL play the BEST Competition ! This year Texas A & M, Clemson, Florida State. 2004 & 2005 Florida & Notre Dame. The CANES can go back to being an INDEPENDENT Program and STILL be on National Television EVERY Saturday !!! FACT. Not many Programs can say that. They are RELEVANT to College Football even in Defeat. You EITHER LOVE or HATE the Miami Hurricanes. There is NO IN BETWEEN !!!
@neonero3 Actually the highest rated non BCS bowl was the Outback Bowl.....Florida vs Penn St.....7.05 TV rating....so much for your ignorant comment, lol. You are right. Nielson doesn't lie....but you do....
@BaDaZone3O5 Great nickname? I think you mean catch phrase.."the U", it's right up there with "roll tide".....something I will agree with you on....lol.
@WestheLegend who knows, they all lost seniors and last year we did well against those teams, it all depends on the off season we get but of course with so many new guys we can expect another year to see at least a bowl win
@Drybones195 "U"= University...and in the beginning they didn't want to have the letter "M" on the helmets because other schools had it, so they did something unique and Put the "U" instead
@BaDaZone3O5 Not sure what you mean by "all the odds against us"? Miami has been playing football since 1926? They were horrible until 1980. Anyway you keep thinking that Miami had "all the odds against it"? which makes no sense because the Broward/Dade/Palm Beach counties area has some of the best high school football in the country. If you get all the athletes from those counties you should compete every year for the national title. Also, Notre Dame is private and small, 8 National titles.
@McClintonforThree I feel like the last time we played we won... and I also feel like the last 5 times we played we won 4 of those... and also that we own the all time record between our schools... and also that in your glory years we beat the s*** out of you everytime...
