gaming headphones suck, every single one broke on me yet I took good care of them, I had corsair, steelseries, xbox stock headsets (including ps) and some other headsets and every single one is sitting in my closet all broken.
When talking about gaming headsets, we have to differentiate between the old approach and the newer one, old gaming headsets were too focused on RGB lighting and extra muddy base, but since youtubers/ streamers started using headphones and separate mics, game accessory companies upped their games and started taking gaming headset more seriously and the quality (along with the price) started to go up as well, in the end it all depends on personal preferences, for me I enjoy gaming headsets (Corsair, Hyperx etc) but I mainly game using the Philips 9500 with boom mic cable, AudioTechnica M50x with modified mic attached cable and custom cushions. PS The Corsair HS65 is an awesome gaming headset, check it out.
Yeah ! And to be honest my Arctis headset sounds quite well. I’m a musician, I have a great musical ear, and seriously they sound great. Kicking clear bass but not muddy or overwhelming, and great highs and decent mids. And you can equalize everything with their software.
Not true for most brands. Hyperx, razer, and the newer corsairs are objectively worse than the old ones. Entire frequencies not audible, planned obsolescence, and uncomfortable ear cones to name a few. Im not sure where you came up with the idea that they've gotten better, but its just straight up not true for most brands
I just got the Arctis Nova Pro wired last week and it's the best headset I've ever had! Definitely worth the money to me and I couldn't be happier with the purchase!
Im happy for you become a youtuber with a nice amount of subscribers. I used to watch you when you was way smaller in terms of subs. Love to see you doing great! keep it up!
the thing is, gaming brands dont even make their own drivers, and for most of the times they dont let some actual good audiophile companies make them, they hand them to some chinese mediocre OEMs, the thing with "Headphones" is, they are companies with a lot of audio experiences (from sound quality to physical longterm quality). ive been using gaming headsets before my DT 880, none of them lasted more than 2-3 years, on the other hand my DT880 is built like a tank, soundquality is a whole different level. not only about personal experience, anytime i recommended a gaming headset to a friend (because of their extremely tight budget) i regretted it, all of them broke in a way or another, pay attention that im not even talking about sound quality, that thing is in a whole different league. A good pair of headphones can easily last 10 years with proper use, im afraid i cant say the same about gaming headsets (unless its something like could II which themselves are copy-paste from another audio company product in term of design.)
are there any other options as good as cloud II that isn't more expensive ? like razer blackshark V2 maybe or anything else ? i can't decide which one is best, i care most for sound quality and comfort and ofc lastly durability, don't care much about mic being that good.
sound is really subjectively. depends on what you like, if you like really bright highs without needing to eq, gaming headsets are not good. but if you like balanced kinda mid focused sound, some headsets are good value. but overall both have sucky models, headsets and headphones even in higher price some might sound bad to some people cause the tuning of the drivers.
Agree - problem is, while I love these videos, his eq preference always seems very V shaped which I hate and my taste just not the same (I prefer PC38x by a mile over H6 Pro for example) - makes his recommendations pretty irrelevant for me. Won't stop me watching though :p
to everyone trying to get a pair of headphones: do never look for "gaming headphones/headsets". the best headphones for gaming will most likely be the best pair of headphones for music/studio.
i think you misunderstand open backs a bit, they don't 'lose sound" quicker, it expands the sound stage, which can help in competitive games, it also improves sound imaging, so it would be easier to locate things by sound, open backs try to replicate how we hear in real life and i think most of them nail it
This ^. Went to open backs and never looked back rocking pc38x. But unless your gaming in like a separate gaming room or in a quite environment opens backs for sure but for noisier environments I’d lean towards closed so you don’t hear all that noise around you
Not really sure if I have a nice/audiophile setup, but I recently paired a sound blaster g6 with the akg 712 pro and its amazing. I’ve tried the mobius, nova pro wired and wiresslees, black shark and kaira pros and while the möbius is close this is best setup I’ve heard. So my advice is find a similar priced headset without the “gaming” features intact and do yourself a favor.
coming from gen2 A50s, yes, but as long as you get a quality headset like a steelseries arctis, the answer is no I would say most suck, but that's any market out there, you'll have a few amongst many that are much better.
Astro a50 gen 4 with the mod kit and some good eq settings are amazing but the turtle beach elite atlas aero might be the best gaming headset in the game extremely underrated
Pretty much all points explained, nice video! At the end, it's whatever you like, whatever suits you, and whatever you can pay. I'm glad i choose the Corsair HS60 as my first headset because i used it for everything else, not just gaming. I said used because it worked in all the points i mention above, at the point that i didn't wanted to try something different when i made the jump to wireless when i bought the HS70.
May i suggest you a headphone (not gaming) to test for gaming? you WILL like it. Phillips Fidelio X2 HR (not the X3!). Try them, please, they will surprise you. If you have a DAC of some kind, connect them to that and will be even better.
I have owned 3 of those headsets, and I have too say I felt let down, I sent them all back and I am still currently using my logitech pro x, hoping one day we can get an awesome sound quality headset. Oh and I wanted too add I have gamed now for over 20 years and still to this day the best headset I have ever owned and loved was the QPAD QH 1339, amazing comfort and sounded just like audiophile cans.
The PC38X hate is unwarranted and needs to stop. I don't understand what you mean when you say you hear a footstep and then it's gone because they're an open back headphone. Did you hear it or did you not hear it? And can you pinpoint what direction and how far? The PC38X sound is incredible particularly for games with big open worlds like battle royales or large scale shooters like Battlefield and Escape From Tarkov, and the mic is fine if not outstanding. It's comfortable. The build quality you could say is lacking, but I'm an adult. I leave it on my desk, pick it up and wear it when I need to and set it down when I don't. Hasn't been a problem.
How is it hate? He values different factors of the headset and not just audio. His preference is closed backs and comfort/build which the pc38x doesn’t have at least to the degree that others do. A lot of the audio is pretty much “whats your flavor”
so this has been my problem with so many "gaming" headset takes, as you said the mic is the differentiator but 99% of what you talked about here is the headphone portion and nothing about the mic itself.
Don't really know if JBL is an audiophile brand. They are a Prosumer brand when it comes to wearable audio... They do have great studio monitors, but again.. that kinda falls into prosumer.. not audiophile
I use a Sennheiser pc37x and they're great. Biggest problem is cable durability, out of 6 headsets I've had 4 cables die and 1 actual headset die. (So many headsets because it's easier to just get a replacement sent out instead of trying to find a half decent replacement cable)
The obvious is the addition of the microphone. A lot of Audiophle headphones obviously do not have a microphone (headset vs. headphone). I also think Gaming headsets shoot for a couple things. Spatial awareness (shooters), Immersion and a little more bass for some. That's the difference. That plus a mic.
The headphones I use for gaming, XM4. Go ahead, ask me about my music listener headphones. Or podcast listening headphones. I don’t have movie headphones, so can’t say much about that no it’s all the same phones. Shocking.
i think what you get out of gaming headsets are things like, noise canceling, sim 7.1 surround, microphone, gamer dacs(real dacs are much diffrent, im talking sbout included little ones tht have the valume dial and trasmit wireless commonly, like the sspro one) this is what your getting with gamer headsets, you wont be getting gamechat ballance or 2.4g wierless with you meze99classics but if you for example, have a separate mic for your setup, want the best sound, and want more open back options then get Audiophile headphones, i have an arctis 7 and love it but i also like my blue yeti and mezes more, its all about what you need and alot of the time gaming headsets are easier and cheaper, nether suck its all about what you need from you gear
I personally have Senheisser X58 Jubilees w/ Antlion Mic, Corsair HS70SEs, recently the Penrose X (Techne talked me into them 😜😂), BeyerDynamic DT1990s, and few $50-200USD IEMs as well and depending on the game or music being listened to, the sound changes dramatically from pleasant, too much bass or too much highs. So my best all rounders so far have been the X58 Jubilee, Penrose X and a couple IEMs 🥰👍😇
Lets be fair.. some of the wireless offerings for so called “gaming” headsets have excellent unbeatable battery time providing decent audio throughout. so perhaps their sound may suck but I’d still use their wireless over my hd800 so i can still have audio during breaks Edit: 3:40 open backs are some of the best headsets you want to use for tracking with sound ques.. what are you on brother? lol hd800s, hedd audio’s headphone, those audio technica g1’s.. the advantage u get sound isolation from close backs cant come close to the accuracy and space/depth u get with openbacks for tracking sounds..
You got the wrong beyer headset my boi, the tygr 300 is the one you want. It’s a fantastic headphone all around not just gaming. Please check it out, I’d love to get your take.
I just stick to HyperX Xbox official headsets. Just because I need a headset that I can both use on a PC and my home console. They are good for their price range.
are there any other options as good as cloud II that isn't more expensive ? like razer blackshark V2 maybe or anything else ? i can't decide which one is best, i care most for sound quality and comfort and ofc lastly durability, don't care much about mic being that good.
Nice video man. Well, i tested the cloud, razer barracuda, logitech and the steelseries. Im NOT a gamer (but im very versed in audio stuff). My hd25 and my rp1200 headphones has way more audio definition than all of these gamers headsets. For gaming i think i would go for a sennheiser or beyer (not the gamer versions, mixing version are the best for hearing everything clear) and buy a microphone. All the eq, surround stuff are not that good for audio definition and increases latency (when using bad drivers if you eq them you can hear a little more the mids or whatever you are looking for, but its not optimal). Bigger drivers dont mean better sound!!! (A good 40mm drivers its better than a normal 50mm driver). I think gamers need to buy high definition wired headphones. For the go, well...thats another story :D. Too much marketing around the headsets. :) ...nice video, but please stop twisting the headphones, its not a good durabillity test :D...
A 20 dollar IEM like cca cra for example is better than a 45 dollar steelseries arctis 1. Gaming headsets in general are all very muffled/boomy when it comes to sound quality except for maybe razer kraken x's they sound really decent for the price.
Great video. Definitely believe some gaming headsets sound better than cheaper audiophile headphones. The real audio quality leap is past a reasonable budget, however some features gaming headphones have blows audiophile headphones out the water. Same thing with the enthusiast keyboard market and mice market. With technology advances in alot of gaming peripherals, it's really just the smug enthusiasts trying to change you over. I love when I mock the enthusiasts over how there expensive custom keyboard, mouse and headset can't perform better than my gear, it just shuts them down to talking crap. Gotta love it. To each there own, this video is a wake up call to those enthusiasts markets to put more into there products
Well thanks to you I now own 2 awesome headsets that Absolutely Don't Suck!! First I bought the Audeze Penrose (Comfort Modded) -Thanks for that video too btw. *Next I just got the VZR Model One's and I am so glad you introduced me to these! Bc Wow they are Amazing!! They have Unbelievable sound and incredible Bass, plus the comfort is Top Notch!* Thanks Techne, for helping me to upgrade my headset from the HyperX Alpha to two Top Tier Headsets!
I got the Phillips Fidelio X2R and the Vimoda mic for less than 200 bucks both. Best decision ever. Never gonna go back to those overpriced gaming headsets.
Question sir on the high end headphones wo mics can't you incorporate a in line mic and make them usable as gaming headphones? I know that pushes the budget higher but you get best of both worlds. Great video BTW love it.
Love Your Videos... honestly which would be the Best Value for Money Headset to buy for Xbox One in terms on Gaming Sound quality that wouldn't disappoint you ??? Please ... I'm lost in between the Astro A50 , the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max and the Microsoft Xbox Wireless Headset right now
can someone recommend a headset that wows me? every headset i bought is cheap feeling and lacks bass. even when i pay 300 bucks plus they still sound like trash.
Its unfortunate that the vzr model one is not available in the EU. So in terms of sound quality and immersion is the new nova pro wired a good alternative for ps5?
i had some HDJ-1500-K's when i was working on music in college and work. and those where the best headphones i have ever owned. They are in headphones heaven now. i tried to fix them but made it worse XD..but would buy again sadly that series is discontinued
Techne what EQs do you use for your penrose? I like the default but think it could be dialled in even better. I downloaded the Audeze presets but still haven’t found what I think they can be capable of
If you got premium gaming headset money to throw away, any 100-200 USD headphone THAT IS COMFY FOR YOU (IMPORTANT) + Modmic wireless pretty much lol. Doesnt matter how “good” something sounds if it aint comfy for you to wear lmao.
Yes you’re way better off with something like a zenDAC of Schitt stack with a decent pair of over ears or iem’s. Most gaming headsets are way overpriced for what they are. Personally I’m insane so I run a professional condenser mic with Kinda Lavas or LCD-i3’s and can swear I can hear colors 😂
I am so torn between the epos h6 pro and the pc38x. I am thinking about getting one but still not 100% sure which route to go. Any recommendations? or comments are heavily appreciated
Owning both I personally go for the H6 Pro closed more than the 38x. Sound is quite comparable even though the H6 is closed back. They sound that good. Build quality and comfort go to the H6 easily. Add in the removable microphone and it's easily my personal favorite.
@y6mi nice the h6 pro does have a white variant as well. But yeah i was leaning h6 pro because of the comfort and wanted to make sure the audio was on par with pc38x.
I’m also going through a rough time deciding. For my needs the epos h6pros and the steel series nova pro wireless are my options. I also heard the jbl quantum 910 is coming out maybe that’s good. I’m looking for a headset that has very foos surround sound and knowing exactly when an enemy is sneaking up Beheind you.Any recommendations?
That surround sound is never great in multi-player games. Games are usually made with 7.1 in mind. Those surround sound are just filters the headsets add over it
Surround sound is not good, audiophile headphone are too good and have so much detail that you are hearing detail bass thump and mids, but by that time you are dead. Usually headsets you can just hear and kill. Hearing footsteps is unrealistic, don't you want to feel like you're there, competitive makes no sense
I have steelseries and logitech and both are great. Hands down superior to the generic "gaming headset" garbage youll find on amazon and for not much more. Just like "gaming chairs" people are stuck in their own little mindsets and likely cant be debated with.
The gaming tag is just a marketing bs to increase the price. Don't get fooled by this poeple, you can buy better headphones from companies like Sennheiser or Superlux for much less than that gaming shit
Not entirely true. A lot is also convenience and features catered to that use. While the headphones focus on audio quality and not much else. It all depends
Yes don't follow the trend or headphome trend like beats or skullcrush, go with hifiman, audeze senhessier, akg, the list goes on, you got to do your research. All these headphone recommendations you have been doing you should stop, do audiophile headphones, I mean you audezes with a ifi stack, how can you even compare that to a steelseries
Try the turtle beach battle buds, you'll sound exactly like a high end headset and the sound quality is there. Ever since my ear surgery I've been using them and I'm not sure if I can go back to my arctis headset
"Audiophiles" tend to hate on Gaming Headphones, but meanwhile they spend like 5k on their headphones + AMP. "Audiophiles" are a joke. I love your new trend of calling yourself an "Audio-Nerd", as that's what I would call myself as well. Audio Nerds are the superior version of Audiophiles :D
Compared to audiophile headphones yeah a mainstream gaming headset is going to suck, my DT990 pros haven't left my desk. But they're also more expensive and some people want a mic, and that's fine. Blackshark V2s are still comfortable and sound fine for 99% of people
blackshark better better or hyperx cloud II in your opinion ? i care about sound quality for music n gaming, long time use comfort and durability, mic is needed but idc much bout it's quality
@M4DLC black shark v2 if you want music and gaming. Plus in my opinion they are more comfortable then the cloud II. Cloud II aren't great for music listening
@@hayden1255 aight then thank you so much, is the X version of black shark much different tho ? and generally are there any other options worth checkin that aren't more expensive ? the cloud alpha s is almost same price as cloud II here if you think it's any better than razer.
@@hayden1255 if cloud alpha's sound quality and comfort better than razer's, then i think it's over all better since idc much bout mic quality. Thank you again for your help i appreciate it ♥
Yes, they suck. If i knew what I know now, I'd have bought a good pair of headphones rather than spending a small fortune on the SteelSeries arctis pro and gamedac.
would you give me an advice with what you know now ? i'm bit new with headphones thing n i might get hyepr x cloud II or Razer black shark v2 ( or if anything better someone suggests ), i care most about sound quality for music and gaming, comfort for long time use, and ofc durability, not much about mic quality ( need it in the headphone tho ) will i regret getting any of the mentioned above in your opinion ?
First of all, it’s all about personal preference and secondly about the rest of the hardware. The best headsets/headphones won’t do much if other hardware like soundcard or player in general aren’t good. The quality of the audio files and so on. There is more to it than just dump a huge chunk of money on one piece of hardware. A decent pair of headphones/headset paired with the right soundcard/player and what your listening to will deliver a great experience in general. Imo.
Don't follow online trends/hype, gaming headsets are great!

Good catch and thanks for pointing it out!
Love your all your reviews and opinions on products Techne! Keep it it up! 👍🏻
You got the wrong beyer headset my boi, the tygr 300 is the one you want. It’s a fantastic headphone all around not just gaming. Please check it out, I’d love to get your take.
TYGR 300 are headphones. It'd be a headset if it came with a microphone.
will you be reviewing the wooting 60he??
Yes
Any chance you're doing the new Sony Inzone line soon?
yes
A 20 dollar IEM like cca cra for example is better than a 45 dollar steelseries arctis 1. Gaming headsets in general are all very muffled/boomy when it comes to sound quality except for maybe razer kraken x's they sound really decent for the price.
I have bought the Epos one after seeing your review and I'm still very happy with it 👌👍👏
Yes, I have waited for this vid for so long :)
techne how do you think the logitech g pro headset stacks up against others in 2022? still relevant?
heck yeah, still a solid headset and a great price now
If they put UA-cam in the Oscar’s or Emmy’s give this man the award please
I used beyrdynamic(sorry for spelling this wrong lol) headset for playing drums and it was awesome but idk if they’re good for gaming
On the bright side they don't suck as much as gaming chairs that can legit hurt your back.
I want them VRS's so bad, sadly sitting here in Germany :)
I got the Phillips Fidelio X2R and the Vimoda mic for less than 200 bucks both. Best decision ever. Never gonna go back to those overpriced gaming headsets.
I was constantly searching and upgrading my gaming headset for better sound until I got the Mobius….
Can you review the AKG K371 or K361 I thing these are one of the best headphones right now .
audio technia G1 are a great sound as well as a great mic!!!
Question sir on the high end headphones wo mics can't you incorporate a in line mic and make them usable as gaming headphones? I know that pushes the budget higher but you get best of both worlds. Great video BTW love it.
I use ant lion mod mics (wireless) with my collection of headphones. It’s a small entry but you just buy magnets for your headsets to connect the mic.
Love Your Videos... honestly which would be the Best Value for Money Headset to buy for Xbox One in terms on Gaming Sound quality that wouldn't disappoint you ??? Please ... I'm lost in between the Astro A50 , the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max and the Microsoft Xbox Wireless Headset right now
Heh I see the notifs with the misspelled title. Funny haha moment
can someone recommend a headset that wows me? every headset i bought is cheap feeling and lacks bass. even when i pay 300 bucks plus they still sound like trash.
Its unfortunate that the vzr model one is not available in the EU. So in terms of sound quality and immersion is the new nova pro wired a good alternative for ps5?
obviously anything with kitty ears is the superior gaming headset
What Glasses are those, Techne? I really like 'em. 🙂

@@TheTechne thanks mate!
i had some HDJ-1500-K's when i was working on music in college and work. and those where the best headphones i have ever owned. They are in headphones heaven now. i tried to fix them but made it worse XD..but would buy again sadly that series is discontinued
Techne what EQs do you use for your penrose? I like the default but think it could be dialled in even better. I downloaded the Audeze presets but still haven’t found what I think they can be capable of
none, I love the stock out of the box sound
Went to go bought 90's studio headphone instead
If you got premium gaming headset money to throw away, any 100-200 USD headphone THAT IS COMFY FOR YOU (IMPORTANT) + Modmic wireless pretty much lol.
Doesnt matter how “good” something sounds if it aint comfy for you to wear lmao.
Hey techne I know this isnt too related to the video but what headset would you say is best for gaming and use for phones and stuff
So a headset with BT and gaming?
@@clawson32104 the h6 has an open back as well but nice. I think i will order the epos and thanks a lot
Hearing footsteps is unrealistic, don't you want to feel like you're there, competitive makes no sense
of course
I have steelseries and logitech and both are great. Hands down superior to the generic "gaming headset" garbage youll find on amazon and for not much more. Just like "gaming chairs" people are stuck in their own little mindsets and likely cant be debated with.
The gaming tag is just a marketing bs to increase the price. Don't get fooled by this poeple, you can buy better headphones from companies like Sennheiser or Superlux for much less than that gaming shit
Not entirely true. A lot is also convenience and features catered to that use. While the headphones focus on audio quality and not much else. It all depends
Yooo u gotta review sony lineup bro I was looking for ur channel on it 😪😪
I have a cheap Logitech G332 headset and it sounds good to me. And I tried a bunch of audiophile graded headphones.
Hedasets?
I stopped using gaming headsets and just opted to jus using apple earbuds and a usb microphone. They’re kinda ugly and feel useless to me personally.
Yes and most are overpriced with features that most people won't use
Yes don't follow the trend or headphome trend like beats or skullcrush, go with hifiman, audeze senhessier, akg, the list goes on, you got to do your research. All these headphone recommendations you have been doing you should stop, do audiophile headphones, I mean you audezes with a ifi stack, how can you even compare that to a steelseries
I wish they made gaming ear buds for Xbox I’m tired of putting them big things on my head
Try the turtle beach battle buds, you'll sound exactly like a high end headset and the sound quality is there. Ever since my ear surgery I've been using them and I'm not sure if I can go back to my arctis headset
I use my skullcandy crusher via Bluetooth on my switch and they sound great and the haptic feedback work great too.
Forget the gaming, get some good headphones and buy a modmic
Audeze is not pronounced Aud- Easy. Its pronounced Ah-De-Z. In Pronunciation its similar to Odyssey
@@M4DLC I personally think the cloud alpha is better but the mic on the X is better if that's something you care about
@@hayden1255 if cloud alpha's sound quality and comfort better than razer's, then i think it's over all better since idc much bout mic quality.
Thank you again for your help i appreciate it ♥
Yes, they suck. If i knew what I know now, I'd have bought a good pair of headphones rather than spending a small fortune on the SteelSeries arctis pro and gamedac.
would you give me an advice with what you know now ? i'm bit new with headphones thing n i might get hyepr x cloud II or Razer black shark v2 ( or if anything better someone suggests ), i care most about sound quality for music and gaming, comfort for long time use, and ofc durability, not much about mic quality ( need it in the headphone tho )
will i regret getting any of the mentioned above in your opinion ?
First of all, it’s all about personal preference and secondly about the rest of the hardware. The best headsets/headphones won’t do much if other hardware like soundcard or player in general aren’t good. The quality of the audio files and so on. There is more to it than just dump a huge chunk of money on one piece of hardware.
A decent pair of headphones/headset paired with the right soundcard/player and what your listening to will deliver a great experience in general. Imo.
Yep and here comes the Steel Series
Audeze Mobius 🥵🥵🔥🔥
Much u pay much u gain
I think we have enough gaming headsets I think these companies should start making earbuds now
Been using some iem's recently when I don't need coms and I've been very happy with them. Sound to price ratio has been very pleasing.
Iems are better
No
@@TheTechne yes
@@TheTechne I just bought some iems that rival my dt 900 pro x.
They do suck but there easy to use they just work and there cheap
