  • A rare day off in the week gave me a chance to pop up to the Peak District.
Parsley Hay to Biggin, Biggin Dale, Wolfcote Dale, Beresford Dale, Hartington and back to Parsley Hay, 12.5 miles.
Parking at Parsley Hay on the Tissington Trail, although the facilities were shut was a nice place to start my day.
Heading along the gravel path it wound its way giving impressive views across the hills.
It was dry and warm, sadly this soon changed to a steady drizzle once I turned off the trail and headed into the village of Biggin. Passing through this sprawling village, a mix of old and new I reached the top of Biggin Dale.
Biggin Dale was stunning, steep sides gave way to crags, gorse and hawthorn dotted the dale. The stony path twisted and turned. Wild Orchids grew here and there.
Reaching the end of the dale it opened out to Wolfcote Dale and the pretty river. A group of DofE hikers gathered under the crags trying to shelter from the drizzle.
Taking my time heading up this broad green and craggy dale I eventually had a brief break in the drizzle, propped myself on a log and got the stove out and sat drinking a coffee and soaked in the atmosphere.
Reaching the top of Wolfcote Dale I arrived at Beresford Dale and was blown away by the lush foliage.
Heading out of Beresford Dale and heading out into the fields and eventually on to Hartington. I called in for a pint at the Devonshire Arms.
Leaving Hartington quickly behind I followed the road up towards Carder Low.
Skirting around Carder Low along grassy paths gave excellent views up the valley, I headed sharply down to a crossroad and turned right though pasture full of Lambs and their mothers.
Undulating pasture a walk through a few farm yards and a particularly aggressive loose collie at one of them. I soon returned to the Tissington Trail passed and odd-looking round stone hut and then on to where the car was parked. This time everything was open so I had a cuppa and a slice of cherry bakewell.
