Man, I remember playing FFXI as a kid. I bought it when it was first released on the PS2 back in 2003 after reading about it on a magazine and being amazed that if I see a mountain in the background I could actually travel to it. It took me about a year and a half (maybe longer) to get my Paladin to 75. I eventually stopped playing maybe a year after thr Aht Urhgan expansion.
The game gave me lasting memories and an experience that no other game to date has given me.
After watching this video it gave me a huge sense of nostalgia as I didn't know the game was still alive over 20 years later. Seeing you solo Sky NMs is totally wild to me, and I'm now realizing that the level caps have been raised and even soloing sky gods is possible. I remember when I got my Crimson Cuisses off of Kirin and being super happy as a kid.
Wild stuff, thanks for the memories.

    A small story about Bune:
Back when I was playing FF11 and leveling beastmaster in the Tunnels, I actually saw the spawn pop on Bune and informed my linkshell at the time that he had spawned. It took them a bit to get there while I hid and waited, as I sure as hell wasn't going to lose hard-earned solo exp.
Eventually my linkshell friends arrived, and once they were there, started to engage Bune. Another team arrived late and tried to use aggro tactics to kill the rest that were fighting Bune. I realized later on that the group that came late were RMT that were piloting their accounts and were trying to get the Bune kill to sell the loot to someone waiting at the entrance. I only realized this when I died (apparently I was too close to Bune's aoes and it one-shot my low level bst ass) and had to respawn and headed back in, only to see a lone player sitting there and partied with the RMT.
Bune was going down slowly, I stood by out of sight from Bune's aoes as best I could, and eventually Bune went down. The RMT were calling the other party thieves in broken English while the first group argued with them over the attempted MPKs. One of the people in my linkshell chat said they had contacted a GM, and within a minute of them arguing a GM popped into existence right between them, took a report, and told the RMT offenders, in short, to cut that shit out or face a permanent ban.
Everyone ended up leaving at that, and when I came out of my hiding spot, one of the RMT still standing there demanded to know, in broken English, if I was the one that called a GM. I replied with 'I'm just trying to level here.' That mithra left finally, and I was back to being completely by myself in the Tunnels.
    10/10 would experience again.

It’s during a period in time where you could type with friends in party and not have to worry on dying or losing dps. FFXI was designed specifically for social interaction

This is what makes this game good and still alive 20+ years. Every act is intentional and strategy based. No autistic button smashing like modern trash MMORPGs with EqUiTaBLe battle systems 🙄
