“The Exorcist, doesn’t hold up…” talk about hot-takes…Consider yourself possibly jaded, as the screening I attended earlier this year, had the audience screaming. Young, and old alike. A truly amazing event.

That's interesting. Maybe on the big screen it has a better effect?
It's a good film, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't scare me personally.

Excellent. Only forgot to mention that To Live and Die in LA also has a chase that's even crazier than the one in The French Connection. Still, great video and excellent ranking. I had no idea what the order would be like, but I was sure which films would take the first four spots. Thanks.

  • @dr.impossibleofcounterpunc1984

Phew! You actually put To Live and Die in L.A. at no.2. I'm really not one for film polls, but my no.1 would be The French Connection. Friedkin, who’s proven himself in both comedy and comedy-drama has always been something of an outsider in Hollywood, but I do like the urban sprawl and how The French Connection's is entirely shot in and around New York, with the exception of a couple of brief expositional location scenes in Marseilles and one in Washington, Owen Roizman, color camera explores most of Manhattan and much of Brooklyn without prettifying the backgrounds, which is the way a film should be. The film also pays patial lip service to the French hardwave crime drama's films going back to the 1950s. Jules Dassin being one prime mover and shaker. Friedkin wasn't afraid to push some of boundaries given the hard line at Fox. The French Connection was a mold breaker in the early 1970's. Other films followed its lead like The Seven-Ups etc... If you ever get the chance Mike, check out Friedkin's interesting late 1960's film The Boys in the Band. Quite a film, but a sociological drama with deep emotions.

Cruisin and Sorcerer are both great films but The Exorcist still has a huge impact on me whenever I watch it. As you say, not a scary film but the performances and the tenderness of the relationship between mother and daughter plus Father Cariss make this a masterpiece for me. I also love Exorcist 3 but obviously a different director. RIP William Friedkin. A true master.

    Hi Mike,
A controversial director in William Friedkin, “The Guardian’ is one that’s skipped me by as folk horror movies doesn’t always appeal to me as much, “Killer Joe” sounds intriguing 🤔, “Cruising” definitely a tough watch but I gotta respect Pacino’s acting commitment to a project like this, & is quite underrated.
“The Exorcist” a classic it is, but a little overrated for me, “The French Connection” my personal fav & the car chases 😎there’s just something about these 70’s cop thrillers for me.
I do have “2 live & die in L.A” but not seen in a while, “Sorcerer” I didn’t see that one coming as your no.1. one of the last Roy Scheider movies I picked up but still not got around to watching 😬guess I’m going to finally watching it as Friedkin recently passed away, fine top 10 listing which is never easy to do 👍

Great video. Personally, I would have put The Exorcist at number 1, then Sorcerer, Live and die in LA, the French connection and Cruising. Even though The Exorcist might have lost its initial shock factor it 50 years ago, the writing, construction of the movie, shooting, acting is the best. He managed to introduce a sense of documentary in it, going back to his roots, as a documentary director. Also, no big studios horror movies will ever go as far as the movie went in terms. It pushed boundaries which haven’t been challenged ever since. For these reasons, I would have put it at number 1. Saying that, I’m now a subscriber to your channel, as I’m a movie lover. I’ll probably comment on some of your other videos 😉. Eric

Would probably put to live and die in l.A. at number one but Sorcerer is way better than Star Wars that's for sure. Regards Killer Joe, the Emile Hirsch character does not propose putting his sister up as collateral it was in fact McConaughey's idea.

  • @TannerBartko

Disagree w/ Crusing. I've seen it a few times and I think it's a turkey. We never know enough about Pacino's character, the red herring's are messy, and it's badly directed. Other than perhaps some good moody shots of night NYC, I think it's dreadful. I was going to give it ANOTHER chance but the arrow bluray is DNRed and I'm not wasting my time with that!
