Loved your vid. I want this kit and you were brave enough to fight the tubing on film. This is what really shows builders what to expect. Great job my friend !
That's why I do it :) Trust me, doing the fiddly tubing on film is A NIGHTMARE! You'll have a slightly easier time of it without a camera and without the pressure not to screw it up in front of an ENTIRE INTERNETS lol ^_^
Good effort on that part of the build,i have both this kit and the new released kit to build at some point,i think i might use white tack to help hold those pesky frame tubes in place and colour code the pipe work to help with orientation.
Re the landing foot. Looking at the detail of the landing foot they could have went a step further and made the base bend when it landed. On the show when it landed on a moon rock or something the base of the foot would bend. Would have been a nice detail to put it. Nice build Mr. Foxx. Love the enthusiasm.
Got this model last week and really enjoying building it while watching the videos. At this point though I'm very much looking forward to getting on to the painting part, which will be extra specially interesting seeing as we will hopefully be looking to make it look like the actual model instead of an actual spaceship. I'm not suggesting we should make it look like some TV and movie props look like in real life, i.e. total crap, but at least lean more towards making it look like the paint job on the 44" original that was designed to make for good looking footage rather than a good looking model, if you know what I mean.
Ha ha you made me go and dry-fit a leg and pod just to be sure! ^_^ It sits between the top of the inside of the pod, and the bit of the foot assembly/leg that glues onto the pod. Once the leg is glued to the pod, the piston can't come out and the spring buffers up against a recess inside the pod (so you can't see it and it has no way to dislodge or come out). The bit of the piston you actually see is just the shiny silver piston part within the leg assembly (the bottom bit with no spring on). It glues to the foot, and the leg is anchored to the pod itself, so the only bit that moves is the piston, up and down, taking the footpad along with it.
It will be, you'll get the "ba-doink" as you place it down. I'll show off the sweet suspension when it is all built! - I'm using third-party springs that are much more springy that the ones in the kit :)
It is good to see Your progress again Sir! :)

AFAIK that wasn't a feature on the filming model, it was just a flat metal foot and armature. Neat idea though :)

I am leaning towards making it more represent the filming model, rather than the actual fictional ship :)
Been waiting for this. Keep going. Any chance of a link to those third-party springs? Cheers.
Foxx says: I honestly don't know where they came from, a follower sent them to me, so I have no other information :(
Cheers
i think that spring goes under the leg it doesn't do much being on top ? put it between the moving bit like a shocker on a bike

i see what you mean but i still would have modified it to be springy :)
