Now that the remake is out I felt like giving this a watch again. This is one of the best TAS I've ever seen and the commentary especially makes it enjoyable to watch.
uknownada Hell I was doing that level yesterday and I noticed I accidentally did it by charging out of the water or something. I was looking on my I pad when it happened.
Oooh...so Moneybags at the end of the game has the gems you actually paid him! I thought he always have that many and you can actually have more than 20 000 gems after beating the game for 117%.
you should pass like 100 times spyro 3 and then make a video for youtube that you passes it in 2 tas omg you are rare good please tell me how you do that
Hello, I'm trying to do a TAS of Spyro as well. I can't seem to figure out how to unpause PSXjin, and it looks like you did that after the screwup at the end. Could you enlighten me please? It's probably really easy but I can't find the answer anywhere. Thanks!
I don't speed run, but I play this game all the time. On random play-throughs, it will say I already have Tony in Agent 9's Lab. Could someone explain how this happens? It doesn't affect completion or anything; it's just odd. I have the PAL Playstation Platinum edition for PS1 but play on PS3.
I'm sorry, I just started watching speedruns and I just don't understand. Is he playing the game live? (Which would be insanely incredible) or did he program the ideal path spyro takes (which is still genius). If the last is not the case than what does TAS mean?
karentjuhh101 It's indeed in the lines of your second idea. A TAS stands for Tool-Assisted Speedrun. Conceptually, it's a recording of all the inputs required to finish the game just like a Speedrun would. The recording of these inputs is done with the help of tools such as re-recording (undo/redo in common terms), frame by frame advancing, scripting and memory watching. In the end, the result of a TAS is what people like to think of as "near perfect" Speedrun of a game, impossible to achieve in real time for most, and with a very decent amount of Swag-factor added on top.
Andy Sarmiento Unfortunately, TASing requires proper tools, including emulators, and such tools will not be available on newer consoles for a very long time.
uri boyka I think it's a great idea, honestly thought it would never, ever happen... I'm skeptical though in that it seems very hard to capture the essence of the original trilogy. I'm scared that they might do a poor job in creating the same atmosphere and the same feel, or at least something that feels just as great as the originals. I obviously cannot have an opinion on the games themselves yet. I will have to try them out when they come out. I wouldn't be surprised to dislike the experience, but I still have hope that they might make them just right. Also please no long load times, I don't want to feel like i'm playing Enter the Dragonfly :s
first of all you are the best spyro player I have ever seen. would you please make a video about spyro remstering, talking about your expectations and concerns in detail, what you would like to see in the new version, what things you prefer to be edited, added or deleted, what about proxy jumps and glitches.
Because this is not a traditional speedrun, it's a TAS - It's executed by a program who plays back inputs I recorded. TASes are purely for entertainment and showcase purposes, and do not compete with humans.
I havent played this game since i was 10 (14 years ago) and it took me like 3 weeks to do what this dude did in 2.5 hours. Thanks for destroying a childhood game it was awesome!
Very enjoyable, made it better to watch with the added information on stuff as it happened.
Holy shit, this is amazing. The headbash that killed the sorceress made my jaw drop to the floor.

I remember when I was a little kid I had found this swim glitch by complete accident in this level. Never knew how to recreate it.

This commentary is perfect. I wish the average GDQ couch was 1/4 as entertaining and informative as this. Still love this TAS
That was amazing.

This is my second time watching this. Im still at a loss for words. Also, my cat moves like Agent 9 when you point a laser in front of her.
I had to pause during Agent 9, that my eyes could rest for a few seconds. Nice to blink again ^^
that was amazing! ever though about doing a spyro 2 tas?

your awesome nitrof :)
Nice to see that was made on PSXjin and the movie did not desync.
Nice!
Crystal Islands used to mesmerize and scare me when I was little. I remember trying so hard to get to super bonus round.
How on earth were you doing that with agent 9, moving the gun so fast and moving him

Nitrofski thank you :)
Do you Speedrun any other games?
Is he using macros for this?
Will you be TASing the remake? I’d pay to see that.
Andy Sarmiento Unfortunately, TASing requires proper tools, including emulators, and such tools will not be available on newer consoles for a very long time.
How'd you do that with agent nine?
+Defalt Something about alternately mashing the strafe buttons I think? They gave a brief description of it in Part 1 during the Fireworks Factory.
mariofan1ish what is the strafe buttons?
Holly Turrell I really didn't need to ask, I knew what they are but never called them strafe buttons, and it's L1 and R1
Is the exact frame at 24:20 2:23:24:26 for your screensaver below your head?
Tha'ts about it yeah :p

hello, I would like to hear your opinion in remsatering Spyro

Souldnt that be World Record?
World Record is 3h 04m 17s, u did it in 2h 27m 55s - why your run it's not World record?
Because this is not a traditional speedrun, it's a TAS - It's executed by a program who plays back inputs I recorded. TASes are purely for entertainment and showcase purposes, and do not compete with humans.
Did you really think it was a human playing it?
I'd like to see a speed run with no mods or hacks.
There's plenty out there of this game.
