The problem with Pyramid Head is that they made a mascot out of a character that could only ever work in the one game he was introduced in.
No, we need even more Pyramid Head. I want "Pyramid Head - The Game", playing as Pyramid Head, all the enemies are Pyramid Heads and it should take place on a giant Pyramid Head inside an even bigger Pyramid Head, in space on Pyramid Head planet.

When will people realize a large part of why pyramid head (and so many other horror designs) is so effective is because of his simplicity. Adding a bunch of random shit to a design never serves it well. Adding sawteeth and weird face spike things only serves to make his design more readable as menacing and it has the effect of looking tryhard instead of ambiguous and otherwise difficult to understand. The lack of readability to his design is what's great. You don't know what he's thinking or planning. All you can decipher is it looks painful

Isn't it time to accept reality and move on? The first four silent hills were a lightning in a bottle moment. There will never be anything like them ever again. That's because they were not the product of a specific person with a specific vision. They were the product of a gaming development culture that is long gone.
Pyramid Head has become a red flag for any Silent Hill content and that problem has gotten so bad that he even feels wrong in content that is MEANT to be evocative of SH2.
It's really bad when his creator has disowned him.

They should've saved Pyramid Head for this movie. Even when Christophe Gans tried to make him look accurate to his source material. He still did it the wrong way. Judging by this photo. He try to make it related to his first movie. It's gonna be less psychological horror in this one.
What's wierd is that the model from the angle presented looks like the body as well. So it's just the head of pyramid head with arms and legs.
Or as hysterical fans of the to-be released Bloober's SH2 Remake would say "Stop being nostalgic, pyramid head would move smoothly and even pose if they had the tech back then, he is moving clunky because the game is old"

I honestly thought it was just a picture of a new action figure when I first saw it as it looked like the arms were plastic etc, only good thing I’d say is at least it has the square front which is accurate to SH2 rather than the homecoming style pyramid heads with the sharp point and grating on the sides etc

Really my only problem with the first movie, was the changing of the main character. I thought the atmosphere was well done, the soundtrack was used well and the cinematography. As long there isn't a town full of weird miner people, I'm hoping it's good.
Not just the main character but all characters. Alessa is now a girl that makes a pact with a demon to get revenge. Dahlia is a caring mother that lost her child to an evil cult. Pyramid head is just a random monster.

I really liked that first Silent Hill movie. Its the only video game-based movie to capture the feel of a game.

As a Silent hill 2 fan this is an awesome recreation of PH. It’s like a mix of movie PH and the Game PH.
My only question is if the pyramid head a behind the scene look. CGI always have a image model.
I get that UA-camrs have to make a check and produce content even when they don’t have any ideas for content but seriously why are we talking about what shade of red he is or how many fingers he has when the entire point of him has nothing to do with how he looks
You are quite mistaken with the "I know you have to make content" angle. That's not where videos come from here. I didn't plan to even do something because I JUST put out two videos last week. (So much for not having ideas!) But I had a quick something to say, it was fun to put together, and it's a series I care about. It was an opportunity to talk about aspects of the character I haven't talked about before. It was an enjoyable video to make. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it was made disingenuously.

I have a real love hate relationship with the original movie.
Everything they took directly from the games was golden. Everything else they changed for the hell of it was a complete mockery.
The origin movie brought a massive surge of fans who only had at the time the most superficial appreciation of the properties most skin deep elements.
People smelling money quickly moved to insert themselves into the equation with cheap cash grabs.
Homecoming was a failed FPS Cod wannabe who redressed ape footage using movie designs to essentially steal the gig from competing studios.
It lead to a slow painful downfall for the franchise were every game was worse than the last.
Konami again jumped on the hype train hoping to swipe up some of that Capcom remake money, but they handed it to unproven teams whose claim to fame where Bloober is concerned was ripping off the most superficial elements of Kojima's PT. His Silent Hill's would have surely had detailed combat and stealth mechanics.
Something Bloober has essentially no skill in and won't be able to even meet the bar of quality set by the original.
The failures this remake and this movie will bring is going to put this franchise in its coffin once and for all.
I won't be surprised at all if this destroys Bloober, as well as the other studios who were handed the IP.
Silent Hill still represent one of me 2 great horror loves in gaming. the second being Castlevania.
Both dead franchises at this point. both leaving voids that no other franchise has been able to fill.

This doesn't work because Pyramid head isnt jason hes more similar to Michael Myers. Michael Myers only works If Laurie strode is involved. Michael Myers stalks a very specific person While Jason kills anyone at Crystal lake. (Or in space??). Imagine Michael Myers killing random people at camp Crystal lake with no Laurie involved
Well Laurie was just a random girl that Michael tried to kill, like the rest of her friends. She's only "important" because she's the star of the movie. Michael's actions are unpredictable and without reason, so him killing random people is totally in character for him. Laurie being "significant" and his sister was BS created by John Carpenter a couple years later when the studio wanted him to write a sequel.
I have higher hopes for this movie than I do for the SH2 remake. The movie at least has a shot at being decent. The original SH movie was close to being good. It looked fantastic, it got a lot of things right. I think what killed that movie were the story deviations, like changing the game's devil cult into some quasi-Christian witch hunting religious order. Or the totally pointless Sean Bean storyline. I think Gans gets the games as far as the look and feel, he just needs to stick to the story. If he can make this new movie look as good as the first one, but stick to the story, it has a chance. More of a chance, I think, than there is that the combination of Konami and Bloober can turn out an even halfway decent SH2 remake.

I havent played silent hill games myself. But I love the feeling it gives, I'v seen it a bit when I was younger. And as hell I love that you pinpoint all those little thing, I often do the same thing. That's why I love this channel, you savor in games (If i said it correctly)
I can deal with an inaccurate Pyramid Head design if the rest of the movie is decently paced and makes sense. The main thing I remember from the old silent hill movies is it felt like it was moving at a breakneck pace, it never slowed down to have quiet/slow moments it was just constantly throwing weird visuals at you and I really dislike that in movies for the most part. Pacing is so important
Silent Hill puts you in a surrealist environment to create unease and discomfort. I honestly don't think that a movie will ever replicate this immersive feeling very well. And if taken as is, would probably just turn into a half baked Jacob's ladder or any surrealist film in existence.
If it's more like the Shining tho, maybe it can work.

@@corvus8638 Lol thank you. Pacing (along with general aesthetic) was one of the things the 2006 film got completely right. There still hasn't been a better video game adaptation to date, save for maybe The Last of Us, and in that case 2006 - 2023 ain't a bad run

I'm more concerned about presentation. Pyramid Head is not like Nemesis, his charm is more about his story significance particularly to someone like James. I dunno, the movies just miss the point of the game side of things (duh they're movies), the idea of seeing something unknown and going "Wtf is that?" And the dread settling in. OG Pyramid Head had that, hell you can say that for like, every Silent at least 1-4, where they had this monster and you slowly figure out what they mean in story context and then you understand what value they bring to the table. It's why they never really repeated the same monster twice in those games except for maybe the nurses because they had something in common for a core human need.
The color palette is also kinda bothersome. Why is it crimson red? Shouldn't the red be on Pyramid Head and not on the walls, lighting, and the bars? If they're trying to base this on SH2, they should at least get the palette right.
I am interested to see Silent Hill be given cinematic justice. But this is sending all the wrong signals. What is Konami doing with this IP, aren't they supervising this?

Christophe Gans clearly has massive respect for the original games, regardless of one's thoughts on his first cinematic attempt. That is *abundantly* obvious from interviews and the plethora of bonus features assembled for the original film's French (and later Shout U.S.) blu-ray release. What you and every other mouth foaming fan boy are really mad about is how every last element of the 2006 film didn't conform to your own rigid conceptions of what a SH movie should be, a cycle that plays out with literally every cinematic video game adaptation

I played hollow night. It's a cool game, pretty art, but I'm not a fan of the metroidvania genre. Just doesn't do it for me. Abel loves it though. I wouldn't do a video on it because there's no point it would just make people mad lol

It's complicated. It's been 10 years. I remember having fun in the gameplay but really disliking the story. Also, the lack of level variety.

Even Jim Carrey was perfectly cast and I laughed when I heard he was eggman. I say have faith but expect the worse. At the very least they are listening to us. There is evidence the face was already changed earlier before the backlash, and Konami was using old footage. So they may have improved his face but there were already changes too.

I think the acting is bad, and the story has nothing to do with Silent Hill which really bothers me. Alessa and Dahlia are completely changed characters. And the monsters feel like showcases. They don't feel integrated into the world. Instead of it's just "here's the scene with the child monsters". "Here's the scene with the nurses". "Here's the scene with the lying figure." And then they're gone from the movie.
They replaced the whole character of Harry with some woman because in gans opinion Harry was too Feminine so why not just replace the whole character and gender gans thought. Its so stupid also stuff like alessa, dahlia, the Cult, Lisa and i dont even think we see Kauffmann
This Silent Hill revival has been extremely disappointing so far, IMO. As someone who's been a fan since 2017, I was genuinely hoping for new Silent Hill stuff to come out. Sure, I understood that the later games weren't as well received, but at the very least, I was looking forward to this revival. I was hoping that Konami would at least learn their lesson with previous SH games and learn what made it great in the first place. However, it seems that they haven't, which is extremely disappointing for me as a newer fan.

I'm starting to notice a patern with all these SH projects (same with MGS3R); they were announced YEARS ago, we dont know anything about them, but they will release a picture or a few seconds long video every few months to basically say "yeah, these exist, we swear", which I feel are more aimed towards investors than potential consumers...

There are two issues here. Issue one would be mounting a whole ass "this will suck" polemic off a single (alleged) production photo clearly lacking the benefit of actual proper cinematography, lighting and post-production enhancements. It's a fucking production still. Issue two would be: IS it even a production still? Because nothing about it looks like a real actor in a real costume in a real physical space. It looks flagrantly computer generated, textbook high res graphics. Like maybe it's a computer rendition of a shot from the film, but nothing about that looks like a real photo. It looks like a shot from the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, which in the event it turn out to be precisely that I'll laugh at you mouth foaming nerds for like two straight weeks
