    Only 2 of us in camper. So we use both king mattress on one side. We use the other side for storage. Works great.

      Same in our pop up! Two of us with two tiny dogs that snooze with us on our queen bed. Works out great. The other full size holds our stuff.. laundry baskets, towels, shower items, dog stuff and bags. 7 years ago, we bought a hardly used 2007 StarCraft 2107. It has been stored inside it's whole life and is in great condition. We paid $3500. I am always looking around And I'm so happy with what we have. I can't imagine investing thousands to go camping and, I don't want to pull a huge trailer around and have to store it as well.

    I'm a side sleeper and the first night in my pop up was murder on my hip. Went on Amazon and got a foam topper and pillow topper. Glad to see great minds think alike. Luckily I'm able to still close my roof.

    Instead of doing the foam tiles I got a 3 inch insulated 2 person camping mattress. It’s about the size of my bed which is a full size so just have to fold in the edges and open the deflate valve when I close up. Then did a 3 inch foam mattress topper on that. It’s super comfortable with no cold or hurt hip issues.

    We did the interlocking foam as well and what a difference. But make sure you dont get ones that are to thick so you can leave them under the mattress when your going to lower the camper . Great video again as well.. Today here it was beautiful out so I Installed two USB fans at the fridge cooling fins to blow the warm air outside to keep the fins cooler.. Another one of your great ideas..

    I just got done putting some interlocking foam padding in my 1992 Jayco Pop Up. I also previously put in some 2’’ foam padding as well to give it some more cushion. I love your videos. I also did the LED lights on my unit as well.

    We're thinking about an air mattress under our "stock" mattress. It's designed to be inflated to 10 inches high. We'll try the air mattress at different heights and see how it feels. We'll leave the air mattress in place under the stock mattress, let the air out and we feel the top will close easily. I'll report back and let all know how it worked out.

    Once again,Thanks for the info. As aging individuals we have always used the memory foam, we call it egg crate foam. We also will place the interlocking tiles on our bed ends, and Thank you for the suggestion. As always, another informative, and great vid. Hope to see you out there.

    Thanks for watching! Quick disclaimer - definitely check how much clearance you have between your stock matress and roof before buying a memory foam topper you plan to keep permanently on the mattress. Cheers!

    We found two 3” twin memory foam on marketplace. Had to trim a lil bit but not bad. We put this under popup mattress. Only downside is we have to pull them out and roll them up under the table cause the popup won’t close with them under the mattress. Works great but extra steps during setup and takedown.

    We have a '93 Starcraft that we bought used about a year after it was built, but it was very lightly used and some of the cushions still had the plastic on them and we've kept them in good shape. However, our cushions are 4" thick and I don't think we could fit even one layer of egg-crate memory foam inside the cushion covers. What we've done for a long time, in place of your mattress cover, is we had a couple of old low-temp-rated sleeping bags that are basically square when fully unzipped. We lay them out flat on the beds as additional padding (and insulation) and they just live in the pop-up year-round (and we can use them as emergency sleeping bags or an additional comforter in a pinch). After we complete a bunch of other renovation items, I may decided to spend some money and upgrade to actually custom RV mattresses from Mattress Insider...they're a national custom RV mattress company, but they are based here in Denver, CO and have a showroom just a few miles from where I live...but that's a decision for later.
    I did incorporate your interlocking tiles idea this weekend. My bed platforms are almost exactly 24 SF so six 2'x2' tiles almost fit perfectly...just needed to trim about 1/2"-1" off two sides and notch a couple of corners. We went with 1/2" thick tiles (after considering 3/4" and 1") because with our sleeping bag "toppers" we already need to push down slightly to get the camper to latch in the closed position, but the foam tiles should help cushion pressure points (shoulders and hips while sleeping on our side) and add insulation in the colder months. I'm seriously considering getting another set of 3/4" thick interlocking tiles to cut as temporary flooring covering, especially if I redo the flooring. I would use them to protect the flooring from items (stove, ice chest, etc) that are stored on the floor during transit as well as temp insulation when winter camping...the vinyl flooring has gotten pretty marked up over the years from things rubbing and moving around on travel days. It's well worth the minimal cost to protect the flooring, and I can just store them away in the car during summer camping trips.

    Hubby added air mattresses under our foam mattresses & deflated them when closing up we just leave them there until next time.
    Note: a step stool may be required to get in when inflated. I have a stool & also use the dining seat to climb up 😜

    Do those interlocking foam tiles breath at all? I'm thinking about doing the same thing but want to avoid creating a mold farm between the mattress and decking. I know that for houses memory foam mattresses must always sit on slats or some kind of platform that allows for the mattress to breath. Some people have been known to put particle board on top of a box spring and set the memory foam mattress on that which can lead to mold buildup if you live in a humid area.

    Instead of buying toppers or RV mattresses which can be super $$$. Zinus foam mattress 6" and cut to size. Under $250. You can put a kleenex box of the matching height and close down the camper to see if it will fit.

    • @ItsPoppin
      @ItsPoppin  3 роки тому

      Thanks! I think we could probably cover this topic when we do a video on de-winterizing your pop up/sanitizing the water system. The cliff notes version of flushing the hot water tank would be to hook up your pop up camper to city water, ensure the hot water heater is not bypassed, and then open up the hot water tank drain valve. This would, in turn, allow fresh water to run through your hot water tank, thereby flushing it. Make sure you’ve already drained any RV anti-freeze from your water system prior to doing this.

    Thanks so much for all the tips! Our rockwood pop up is on order and we can’t wait til it gets here! Watching all your videos has been such a help in hopefully prepping us to be pop up owners. We also hope to document our experience with our pop up! With that said, the pop up we got has a heated mattress. Can you still use the memory foam toppers on it? Can we even still use the foam tiles to line the bunk if we turn the heat on the mattress? What do you think about putting reflectix under the foam tiles? Do you think that would create condensation?

    • @ItsPoppin
      @ItsPoppin  3 роки тому

      We've never had heated mattresses, so I can't speak with any confidence on how it will work with the memory foam on top. With that being said, I've never heard of anyone having problems with foam under the heated mattresses. Also, I'd go with the just foam as opposed to both under the mattresses. I don't think it would be worth the money for (maybe?) the marginal benefit it would provide.

    We have a 2017 Palomino Real Lite pop up with the heated mattresses. The full side has a simple duvet cover on top of the mattress which provides some nice padding, and still allows the heat of the mattress to come through. I just bought a 2" memory foam topper for the queen side of the bed. However, if I put this topper on top of the exiting mattress, I believe that it will nullify the benefit of having a heated mattress. I was wondering if it would be safe to put the memory foam topper underneath the existing mattress? I recently watched a video in which a guy cut open his heated mattress, which showed the heating tape element was closer to the top of the mattress, so I don't think it would harm the memory foam, but I just don't know. I appreciate any opinions on this, and thanks in advance.

      We went to Ollie's (a regional overstock/bargain chain) and got some there. Our mattress is "king" sized, but not by any standard measurements. Using sheets with elastic all the way around have made them fit sufficiently well without too much excess, but I also bought "sheet suspenders" to tighten them up under the mattress, if it becomes an issue.
      There are also websites and sellers on Etsy that make customs sheets, but they are pretty pricey.

Don't know if it is recommended or if there is a better way to do it but I power washed the cushions and got a lot of grime off the covers. I'm wondering if anyone else has done that? I'm also wondering if I could do that with the mattresses. I have a nice sturdy wooden fence I can throw them over while I wash them cuz I know they will get super heavy with all that water in them.
