You definitely want some life insurance before you try surströmming.
My wife is from the far north of Sweden and we were visiting her brother at University and went for a walk in a park. About 50 meters away some Swedes were having a picnic and I asked my wife what that horrible smell was... So I've never eaten it but boy I've smelled it. Brian have Karin find Selskapsreisen for you and watch it, there is an appropriate scene as regards your question above. You get to meet Lasse who Karin might be too young to know about but besides being a comedian he is also an artist we have a couple of prints of his art.
Maybe we'll see each other some time on Gotland as my wife has a summer house there near Katthammersvik.
Safe travels
@@vackerfru Selskapsreisen is the norwegian title I think. the original title is Sällskapsresan. I also recommend the other two sällskapsresan movies, snowroller and sos, good movies
@@linnea8608 Tack, I wasn't sure on the spelling and did a search on Google. Been married to a Swede for almost 30 years (next year) and have seen it like 5 times ;-)
As a Swede, I´m on Brians side when it comes to Surströmming, It is DISGUSTING!!
One of my favorite episodes. I love Karin's mom. Such an awesome, sweet lady
👍
Not to mention beautiful.
This was one of my favorites too!
"What is it with these American men?"
This is home to me.
I was howling with laughter at Brian's Swedish facts and his "engagement" with the rotten Herring.
You and me both. Dang that was funny!
Fermented - not rotten.
@Trevor Smith Dogs not only like to eat fermented fish. You have to be careful when you pour the liquid out of the can. Dogs really love to roll in it.😃
Very Funny
@@Coastaljaeger Tomay-to, tomah-to.
Great episode! You can really see the joy in Karin's Mom's eyes at having you guys around. As a grandparent, I totally get that! Cheers!!
Both Karin and her mother have these incredibly brilliant blue eyes!!
I’m sitting here in Mukilteo, WA waiting in my truck as my wife is having a dental procedure and I’ve got tears streaming down my face from laughter between the exchange of Brian and Karin’s mom as they open the can of pickled herring - It’s priceless and hilarious.
"Smell my finger!" LOL I love you guys
I am in love with Kaza's mom! "Come here and try to be a bit Swedish!" is the best Delos quote ever and I've seen every single Delos episode!
Bingo! ... Bull's-eye.
proper culturing
My favorite..."smell my finger" he says.
What an episode. While watching this episode I really noticed that this channel has transcended from being first and foremost about the nomadic life on the ocean and the experiences that follows to a narrative about life in general and how people, families and relationship evolve over time. When you've seen the entirety of the videos in chronological order it is interesting to think about this evolution. This was a beautiful episode and being from Scandinavia myself (not Sweden though) it gave me a warm feeling inside being able to understand the conversations in Swedish. :)
What an amazing trip!! It made me cry a bit when you guys departed. Seeing Kaza's mom embrace Sierra was heartwarming. Thank you so much for sharing your lives with us..👏👏🫂
Just love how Brian and Karin can share their time in Sweden with us, yet keep things super private and intimate with the family. Super happy that Nugget got to enjoy some quality time with her Grandma. And of course the classic battle of Brian vs. Bad smells!
That scene with Brian gagging had me in tears! That was a fantastic episode. I am sure Sierra will remember her time in Sweden.
Leaving your mom brought tears to my eyes! What a beautiful time spent on land with family!❤️
One of my fave past Delos episodes!! Love you guys.
Great to see Kaza have a good time with her mom on home soil! ❤
The scenes at home in the yard bring back perfect memories of Sweden. One of my sea kayak bucket list goals was to paddle around Gotland. Love the way Sierra says nej. After a decade of you guys feeling like part of my life, my family, it's so wonderful to see you there with mormor. Makes it all feel more real. I know it's expensive, but I wish for you more trips to family and reunions. Hugs to you all!
Wow, never imagined Sweden to be quite like that. The seashore scenes reminded me of Nova Scotia. However it's great you are back on Delos and are several months closer to "real" time.
I’m from Nova Scotia and I agree ! Rural Sweden is exactly like paresboro .
@Trevor Smith whist I understand the geological reasons… I was referring to the culture also
We have this in Egypt as well. It is a delicacy in Egypt too. but it is Nile river fish. For over 2000 years, It is fermented in salt and other materials and then kept sealed inside cans. It does not taste like it is fermented at all but very tasty when minced with lime. Egyptians eat it usually once a year during Easter time. with traditionaly boiled eggs and green onions.
From tears of joy 😂, tears of laughter 🤣, tears of celebration 🥳, to tears of sorrow 😭, I had a Whole Lotta tears going on. I've been with you on every trip home to Sweden and all of your birthdays 🎂since you arrived on Delos. They only get sweeter with time. Thank you for sharing your life and Mormor with us.💙
I realize it takes a lot of work but you guys live such an amazing life, you are truly blessed. Take care.
Sierra reaching to give her grandma a hug while say goodbyes was so sweet
I always enjoy your episodes but every once and while there's ones like this that really fill up my heart with joy and gratitude. Beautiful vibes. Sierra's laughter, Karen in her "medieval" Swedish outfit at that summer festival looking like real deal ancient Scandinavian royalty, Brian enjoying the quirks of Swedish culture and Mormor! You're the best Mormor!
Love this! My grandmother is from Sweden, and she was very into her culture and this made me miss her and want to go back! 🥰
A very refreshing video, I wish there was a part 2 in Sweden, Never the less thank you for sharing.
yes, a great episode. country living in the far north
It’s so awesome to see Nugs so happy!
Going from "no-hug-for-mormor-Nugget" at the beginning of the episode to "big-hug-for-mormor-Nugget" at the end was a great visual for the quality family time you guys had and the importance of this summer spent with Karin's family. Glad to see some highlights of your time, but also glad you spent lots of time without the camera too. Happy (belated) birthday, Karin.
Fantastic vid guys. I haven't laughed that hard in as long time. Brian retching over smells always gets me.
Brilliant, laughing so hard at the herring incident. That's a great recycling unit. Love the hot tub. What an awesome trip. So great to reconnect with your family.
This is one of my favorite episode, so real, so not trying to be sometging else, just the good simple life and of course the important tbings in it, family, fun and love.
Thanx for the "how to live" lesson Brian , Karin & Sierra, to me it's amazing that you share a small part of your life with us.
Radu,
This might be my favorite Delos video. Karin, your mom is such a treat. She is so delightful. Please show more of her land, it is beautiful and soothing!
Spent many holidays in Sweden and Norway. This episode is so full of love and emotion. Great to get a glimp of kaza her home were she grew up.
Hilarious and oh so sweet. Karen and her mom are like twins separated by a generation.
Or just a loving mother daughter dynamic
That was three months?! Wow! Thank you again Delos tribe for sharing your experience 🤙🏼. Brian and Karin and Cierra, You all continue to inspire me, Mahalo 🙏🏻
22:47 Goodbyes 👋 can be the “See you next time”
I would LOVE to visit your Mom- I have 4 dachshunds and when i saw she had 2, I knew she was my kind of lady! I am 4th generation in the US from Sweden and it's my understanding that I have distant relatives there. So glad to see you all. My grandmother tried to get me to eat some "traditional" Swedish food when I was young but she couldn't catch me-
This is an all-round enjoyable episode!! I especially enjoyed watching Sierra's interaction with the Dachshunds!! 🐶🐕 By the way, I Really like smoked kippered hearing, but Rotten Hearing? ... and you have to open it in a bucket of water to avoid the stench? 10:51 Even the little dogs are complaining! 11:30 "C'mon here and try to be a bit Swedish!" 11:53 "Yah, it's great!" Something tells me Kazza is telling a bit of a "Fibber McGee!" 12:02 What is Nugget saying? "Nay! Nay!" 😛
This was a highly entertaining one :) Kudos for Brian for sharing a point where even he faltered. Vikings were vikings for a reason man :)
Great video guys and great trip. Also, well done with the editing. You can see Jordan's hands all over this video and still she impresses me each time. Well done Jordan. Oh and Brian too!
thank you delos for showing us karins side of life. you surely had a wonderful and fabulous time with mom as shown. stay safe and see you in the next.
I loved seeing you with your Mom. I'm still teary eyed from you having to leave. Such wonderful memories of Sweden you'll carry with you always. BTW, I would have gagged a maggot like Brian. Happy belated birthdays Sierra and Kaza. Love & hugs from northern California.
Oh my god, when Brian almost threw up behind the bushes it really got me, lol! You guys are adorable. I really wish all the very best to all of you, including mormor of course!
With love from Finland 🙏
That was an awesome SV Delos episode. Sweeeeeeden!! This one showed the happiness radiating from the four of you. Great to see Kazza back home or Kuureen (pronunciation?) Really cool.
Brought tears to my eyes during the good-bye. Sierra cupping her grandmother's face was precious. I can tell you all had a wonderful time and a well needed break to visit loved ones.
Great episode! Love hearing about Sweden from Brian's perspective.
Yes pls Brian. Give us your thoughts.
My daughter and my three grandsons live in Canada and I live in the US. Your goodbyes made an old grandpa cry because I know it personally. Great video guys!
As a native of Newfoundland, Canada, I really appreciate your snapshot of Swedish culture. Although different, our food, weather and culture have many similarities!
Man you made me laugh, you made me cry in this episode. Nugget 2 years old feel privileged your sharing her journey with us. Kazza celebrating a wonderful birthday with her Mum such special times after all the Covid restrictions around the world. Stay safe guys and thanks for the great vlog Greg 🇬🇧
That was very entertaining and knowledgeable, thank you for sharing your trip to Sweden for. with us, glad you are back safe and healthy. , till next time, caio 👍🙏and happy belated birthday kazza ❤️😎
This is the best episode. So lovely to see Swedish life and Karin happy in her home land. Baby Nugs cam was great - so cute!! 💕 God bless you all.
Thanks for all the great videos!!! Stay safe Delos!!! :)
That was fabulous! Especially the end. "Are we weird?" You guys crack me up. Great to see the Nugget growing.
Great episode guys, loved the pet name “crazy swearing son”
Um ok I laughed an cried but mostly giggled my way thru the beauty that is love an family. An seeing Nugget experience the new things was pure joy ... She growing like a bean... It's beautiful ✌🏼💗😊❣️
The traditional Swedish costumes fit you so well! Loved it ❤
I have to admit that I'm not usually a huge fan of the episodes where sailors go back briefly to land life. However, this episode was amazing. I was laughing hysterically with y'all as Brian tried the fermented fish. The world needs more people with hearts like Karin and her mother. vi alla älskar mormor. Fair winds Delos!
Watched this episode for the third time 😂
Still laughing, best part is the literal meanings and the rotten fish 🎣
I can't believe how fast your episodes fly by!! Like a movie you don't want to end!!! 💚💙💜💟
I laughed so hard at Brian's reaction to surströmming, which is common to every video I've seen. My mom and aunt say that like it with potatoes also which I can't understand. Not sure I'll ever try it. My cousin is named Karin also, it was nice to hear the Swedish pronunciation.
So beautiful! I can't help but cry every time you leave Kazza's mum, looks like you all had a special few months though! Have fun and take care guys 🌊💜
I haven't seen Brian gag so hard since he first started changing Sierra's diapers. I find it quite hilarious.
more videos with brian gagging! lol
previously to that, the exploding toilet episodes
I wish I could put into words when you were opening the surstromming !!! Howling! Have you ever thought back and thought what a "simple" boat ride across the Pacific would bring? Love it!!!
I never laughed so hard ! Watching Bri dry heave had me doing the same thing! Thanks ! Lol
Oh my! nugget is 2!!! My daughters vocabulary exploded a bit into her 2nd birthday. So nice to communicate with them. I cant wait to see what Sierra has to say. Happy Bday girls!
I love you three! My wife and I travel often but your little family is just another level with your adventurous living! So awesome. But I'll never envy those 20+ hour travel days! lol And watching baby Nugs grow so fun to see. Thanks for sharing and cheers!!
I really liked the glee on Kaza's face and her mother's face when they were telling him not to open it in the house, and to open it in a bucket of water if he wanted to survive. Its good to get a few safety tips from the natives. He is a much more adventurous soul than i am. I loved watching the birthdays and the lovely berry cakes and the Swedish interiors that have different notions of aesthetics than normal plain US. Thank you so much for sharing your view of the customs and a great deal of respect goes to Brian for learning the language.
She is just the best. I miss waking them up and the smile when they first see you. Awe melts my heart. Love to all.
What a fantastic time visiting home & mom…she’s lovely. Thank u for sharing tidbits of Sweden ❤️🇨🇦
I came back from Sweden like three weeks ago and I LOVED it... Beautiful country and the NICEST people. Had so much fun watching this episode. Must have been painful that Sierra chose bread with ketchup over the meat and surströmming! Thank you for sharing! Tack!
That was wonderful to watch! I felt like I was there with you guys for the trip, so much so that I burst into tears watching you all say your goodbyes. I wish we could have seen more, but thank you for sharing! Glad you guys made it safely home and that Delos was able to pull through😊
What a brilliant video I really enjoyed watching it and I am really glad u had a great time in Sweden 🇸🇪
This was…..amazing. ❤️
Happy Birthday Kaza I am January born myself. Such a wonderful episode and time time spending with your parent! I am Ukrainian, that lives in NYC for 20 years and your flag color is very similar to our color. I have been following you for quite a good time of period now. And every Friday with you posting such a wonderful videos makes my week complete, as I love so much nature and humans as you are. Kaza and Brian - you are such a wonderful parents and people! I just wish one day to try out the life on a boat
That was the shortest summer I've ever seen -- but boy, was it a good one!
Nicely done, Brian & Karin. Your Mom has the perfect, quintessentially Swedish country home. To be envied.
Thank You for sharing the blessing of family! You are such a lucky man, Brian!
It's so crazy how you posted all this time passing in one video. Such a great video and my gosh, you look just like your mom. Sweden looks so beautiful. Love watching your journeys. This was truly an amazing one and even I got emotional with you leaving Sweden. You are just an amazing little family. Love you all!!!
I love you guys. You are my happy place. The love and ambition that you share is always inspiring. And when I'm stressed out, just watching your adventures and daily life lifts my spirits and reminds me to smile and enjoy life as much as possible. Thanks again. Cheers! 🥰
Great video. My grandmother is Swedish and she was a wonderfully woman who passed last year from Covid at 99 years young. Thank you for this fun look into Sweden. The fish seen reminded me of lutefisk from my youth. Love you guys!
Thanks for the Patreon update! Had to watch this one again and laugh! Look how far you’ve come! Inspiring the world!
Sunday Surströmming 🐠 Happy Birthday & Happy midsummer. Wow 4 months in one video. Sending you your weekly love 💚.

Awesome episode. Family is everything. Life has become so busy that we often dont find time for our parents and siblings. Kudos.
Always makes me smile watching your VDOs. Heartwarming!
Kazza, your mom is a delight. She is so awesome!! What a joy to see you guys spending time with family in Sweden. Beautiful life. I really enjoyed today’s video!!! Nugget will be a well rounded person with parents and the adventurous life you provide her. Just beautiful.
One of my favorite episodes of all time. Thanks!
Cheers!
Whipple
Hi Guys! I have been following SV Delos for many years, simply brilliant! When I want to escape from everyday life, I watch your adventures! Love it :-)! All the best and take care! best wishes from Vienna :-)!
OMG Brian your smell reactions are literally the funniest thing. I’m in tears. I needed that today.
I loved this....it brought a whole new level and dimension to you guys. I laughed hard at Brain and cried with Karin saying goodbye to mum. Simply the best!
I normally do not like videos that go away from the subject of the channels, however this one did make me smile a lot. I have had first hand smell of that fish and I think he took it very well. lol
Thanks Brian and Kazza. I’ve been a fan since It’s Better In The Philippines. I wish I could afford to be a patron but I’ve watched every video. Someday maybe I can. Good luck in your future! I will continue to watch and cheer you on. Cheers!
Family, loved ones, when they are gone, makes all the hurt and anger disappear, leaving the love and longing.
Sad and a blessing.
It was so sweet seeing Karin and her mom, you could definitely feel their love
This Sweden leg was just lovely.
This was such a fun video! The facial expressions regarding the smell of the Herring were hilarious. Thanks for sharing your time in Sweden with us. I really enjoyed it…and I would not be daring enough to taste that dish. Ha!
BEST VIDEO EVER!!!! WOW. I LOVE Sweden.
Love love love. You guys are awesome. Thank you!!!!!!!?
”Borta bra men hemma bäst! ” as we say in Sweden! Great to see you enjoying the swedish summer!
i don't know why, but this is one of the best episodes I've seen so far.... I really love it!!
I love you guys so much! Never met you in person… but dang I’ve been watching you for a long time and this episode was so good. REALLY well done and I had so many laughs and think I need to visit Sweden!
This was a lovely video. Simple pleasures of the family life are just the best.
Perfect episode. Good to see you having fun with family and friends
LOVED this episode! It's so enjoyable to see how Nugget continues to grow, and she clearly enjoyed spending time with her grandmother (and I'm sure she had Grandma wrapped around her little fingers.). Love the content, and really enjoyed seeing so much of Sweden. My family is planning to go there for a visit in the next two years - you need to post a list of smelly foods to avoid Brian!
I am so glad that you had an enjoyable vacation. I had an enjoyable time watching it. Thank you.
So glad you were able to go see your mom and when you’re done and time with them enjoy watching
iI loved this video ,such a pleasant change for you all and Grandma got to spend some time with Sierra ,those are precious memories they both will never forget.
