- With some settled weather finally here, we managed to get out on my friend Liam's boat and do some inshore lure fishing for bass around the islands.
We set out early one morning and spent a few hours trying different marks to see what was about.
We would be using a variety of lures including, shallow divers, soft plastics and surface lures, whilst drifting and also at anchor.
We'd be casting lures close to the structure of the land and targeting shallow water over large boulders and kelp beds. This is generally where you will find bass lurking in the shadows waiting to ambush any prey passing by.
With it still being a bit early in the season we weren’t quite sure how productive the day would be. However, we did manage to find a few fish and also had clear indicators of fish activity in certain areas.
All in all it was a fantastic morning out.
Many thanks to Liam for putting us on the fish that day and we shall hopefully be covering some different ground over the coming months.

well that was a enjoyable 20 minutes ..bummer to loose lures but some nice fish come out .. but another cracking video mate you edit these video's very well i always look forward to your next upload and you are mixing the content up very well ...stay safe mate take care and as a fisherman i will say catch you soon ..hahaha

No one ever catches the Harry Houdini bass of temps passé Cal. :). Cracking video. Showing Guernsey like that, close inshore with single stack rock formations etc and of course fish. Nice 58cm there. Guys like yourself, smash etc should be given a grant from states tourism. Just my opinion :)

Cal can you do an experiment , can you fish a bright line direct to the lure under water and see if you catch I know you can catch mackeral this way I juts want to see if it's even possible if bass they see the line .

Great video! Never trust “lure clips” they’re always the point taht will fail or let you down. It’s often worth just re-tying or using a swivel and a split ring! Only time I use them anymore is big game fishing, and they’re 400lbs when the rest of the tackle is 50-80 (and they still fail)

Just been to Boat works+ Guernsey's website, tell them they need to list their lures & tackle on there for sale with wold wide delivery, at sensible prices obviously.

just a question how far do you cast the lures blanked the other day from the boat and I think I wasn’t casting far enough
We were casting as close to the structure as possible. The amount of times you actually hit the rocks is mad haha. Most of the time they'll just bounce off the rocks
When the water and temp is quite cold would you recommend a slower retrieve of lure , even during the day? Great video as always cal.
Yeah i would definitely recommend a slower retrieve when the water is colder. This was the first time i've used a hard lure since november last year i think. Always a slow retrieve with soft plastics throughout the colder months. Thanks 👍

weak link on the lure....fish never took it off, impossible.
Looking back on it i don't think the fish took it off either. The lure clip was still attached though. I think the clip on the lure itself must've been damaged without me noticing
