- The DJI Mavic Pro Platinum! Today we're going to talk about my initial impressions and do a first flight! I may be eating my words after this video because I'm quite taken with this drone. Honestly its much better then I thought it would be but lets check it out together!

Have a Spark which I love for various reasons. Just bought a Platinum and waiting for it to ship! Excited
Good point in your case , I’d forgot about your license ! ! I live in the middle of nowhere here and it’s over the sea at 150 ft. Mind now I know their limits I do generally fly in line of sight. I just had to try !
IMHO it's not so much the loudness of the Platinum as it is the pitch. Spark and probably the Pro seem much more of a high-pitched whine while the Platinum seems to have more of a bass, throaty sound, hence less annoying. Good comp though.
+Charles Ingram I totally agree, the sound is deeper and it also degraded faster with distance. It’s actually quite amazing!

Couldn't agree more. I just got mine delivered today. I really didn't know what to expect and I can tell you I was shocked at how quiet it really is. The thing is stealth quiet. No way you could hear it over a leaf-blower a block away when you are sitting 10 feet away. I'm tickled Platinum!
+Charlie Ingram it really is surprising. I guess in my mind it would be a softer sound but it’s more of a deeper sound that doesn’t travel very far.

DB work in such a way that for every 3DB increase or decrease you either double or half the power so 3DB decrease means half as loud
i've never really been all that concerned with noise from the spark though. sometimes i even appreciate it since i use active track a lot and want to make sure it's still following me without having the ruin the shot by stopping to look around for it.
i mean, i can see the benefit to having a stealthy takeoff, depending on where you're trying to fly. but so far, i'm thinking that i agree with EverydayDad from a couple weeks ago. or maybe we need that comparo video or full review
I think the thing that I like about the noise reduction is reducing the noise pollution of drones. As much as I love mine I hate when I'm at a public venue or out at a nice spot and I hear the whirring of the drones (I get that I've contributed to this) but I like that its able to be lessened abit.

BRUH NO WAY
I opt for the Mavic Pro Platinum with the new quiet propellers. Great review too.
The biggest difference that really MATTER between these 2 is the connectivity. The Spark/Air uses wifi(not so good) while the Pro series uses radio signals which is by far way steadier and has a solid connectivity that one doesn’t have to be frustrated or worried abt.
hey Tedd, i broke down and bought a mavic Pro to compliment my mavic air and boy am i glad i did, what a beast it is, I bought a set of reduced noise prop blades and the difference is amazing,
i have one slight dimena, which one do i fly, my brain hurts pondering it. i love them both for different reasons. the platinum might be a tad better but i don't regret buying the pro, i saw the pre-release of the mavic 2 pro and i almost had a stroke,lol, can't wait to see this beauty when it's finally released and all the features it has onboard. waiting patiently( yea,right). till then, keep the cool videos coming, ciao from Columbus, Ohio. U should put your antennas straight up and down like 90° not straight out. You'll get way better distance/signal in general

I generally keep them in a 45 degree angle but I’m always up for trying different methods 😁👍

A CW not according to my distance runs! U are right as far as signal penetration but i find i can do 38000 feet both out and back with antennas str8 up
A CW i really think u have no clue but ok i get it your on the everyday dads nuts. P.s i work with radio/frequency everyday. Think i would know. I also have a p4p and have the record for distance in pa and other areas ted was not exactly holding his antennas at 45 ° there pal. Its all about how the user holds the remote also

That was a great video. I would definitely watch a full review. I just got a spark a month or so ago so would not be in the market for a new drone but my youngest son is interested in the mavic.

A couple of people in the past reported problems with their regular mavic pro so maybe the platinum the problems have been fixed
+brandan rosette that’s possible. I had a Mavic Pro for a little bit before my spark came in but it wasn’t enough time to properly figure it out. I’m really excited to dig into the platinum though! 😁

Assalamualikum! I have been watching you for a while now. And everytime i want to buy a product. I typed the product name and add everyday dad so i could watch that specific review of yours. Is that me or you really confuse me explaining or comparing the 'Sony' eye autofocus with 'Canon" dual pixel autofocus. I mean both work perfect in their perspective.
I got the regular mavic pro but I did install the new wings. I can't justify buying the platinum. My next drone purchase will be a phantom 5

A CW i am surprised there hasnt been an announcement to date DJI probably sees no need with the crazy success of the mavic
The DJI MPP (Mavic Pro Platinum) has a better ESC (Electic Speed Controller) than the Mavic Pro so the main sound difference is not only the props.
Thinking about buying one how high does it go
I thought the major difference with the platinum was that it will record 4K video. You didn't mention that.
+murray balkcom both the Mavic Pro and the Mavic Pro Platinum record in 4k. It’s the dji spark that only does 1080p

Thanks. Yes noise reduction is a biggy, and very welcome, even if it is small.
Quickshots, yes very good, but I can do them all manually except the Helix, which is very cool. I noticed you did what I do on the helix, you turned to watch the Mavic, which spoils the shot a little. I fly the Helix once and turn and watch it, if OK, I fly it blind the second time.

I agree that most quickshots are easily repeatable but I like that they keep the camera focused on the target so I don’t need to mess with the gimbal.
Yeah I get nervous on helix because it always seems to want to fly right into a tree/powerline 😁👍
Hmmm, maybe compare the Mavic Pro with Pro Platinum for noise test 🤔
So basically you can get a mavic pro and just buy the new propellers and get almost the same experience, only that the battery it comes with can hold charge for 3 min longer
Thats one of my budget suggestions is to buy a refurbished mavic pro and add some low noise props to it. Get about 90% of the way there for 30% less cost.
The Everyday Dad yea, but I will probably just wait a year or so and then get it brand new from a store so there is some warranty to it. Have had some troubles with electronics before where warranty really was of importance. Don't want to risk much when investing this amount money.
Does DJI actually have a warranty? DJI doesn't have a great reputation for customer service or honoring their warranty.
Do a review and do a comparison to the Spark please. The dronie and helix and such. Also put it up at exact heights and take stills. Then side by side. Also the flight times with the new mavic.

Nice review. Do you find Mavic Pro platinum quitter to the human ear than the spark? I am in the market for a quality drone. Mainly for using while boating and off a kayak. Hand catching the mavic might be a little bit stressful. I enjoy drone Friday’s.
+Bob Tyson it’s hard to describe, it’s not really quieter it’s like a less sharp noise. The video doesn’t really do it justice but it’s not that it’s quieter it’s that the sound doesn’t travel as far if that makes sense.
I’m really impressed with this drone. I’m pretty shocked but I don’t remember my Mavic Pro from earlier this year being as good.
Yeah I definitely don’t hand catch the Mavic 😁 I’m just a short guy with short arms and I think the blades would catch me! 😳👍
The Everyday Dad Anything sounds quitter than the Spark. I watched a lot of reviews about the Spark, and all claiming how quiet it is, BS its like a angry Hornets nest, not quiet at all. I have a few brushless Quads and I am sure they are quieter than the Mavic, so to get the Mavic because it is "Squirrel" quiet, you will be disappointed, only reason to get it, is the nice features if you are into high end videography

Yeah I use the angry hummingbird reference to refer to my spark. It’s not terrible but it’s a very higher pitched sound then I like and you can hear it pretty far away. The platinum isn’t necessarily quieter but the sound doesn’t transfer as far.
I only use drones for video and photos so yeah quieter is a HUGE bonus in how I fly. 😁👍

What everybody is making a big deal over the small decibel decrease but take mind that every -3 DB is half the noise.
I think its because normally 4 is not a huge number and specifically I really don't know much about noise science but this decibel reduction is amazing. And I don't know the technical term for it but the noise reduction isn't as impressive as the noise degrading over distance. I feel (I'm testing this for my review) that the sound degrades way faster then my other drone over distance.

Who what’s the scoop. If you put the propellers on thr regular Mavic. How much difference does it make. Do a test with the new Mavic propellers on the reg Mavic.

Range test- have to give it a try over that lake as can’t be any interference there. Also be interesting to see how far out the spark will go? Here in the UK over water I’ve flown 1800 ft before Spark gave up and came back, 14,000 on my Phantom 4 and Inspire 2 5,600 ft. Think the mavic will top all of mine !

The Spark is great, don't get me wrong. But the only reason to pick it up instead of the Mavic is if you can't afford the Mavic.
In your case, since you have both, I don't forsee a situation where you'd rather have the Spark.

+Archie Vlogs I’ve never been an architecture student so I can’t say for sure. But if you need a relatively quiet, compact, good video quality drone this is definitely a good one 😁👍
Is it worth upgrading from a Phantom 3 Adv to a Mavic pro?
I think it depends on what you use your drone for. If you don’t need the extra functionality of the intelligent flight modes, the 4k, or the compactness I think the phantom 3 line is a great series of drones.
But I personally like the Mavic better for the aforementioned reasons, it’s a better drone for me. 😁👍

+ianwilson4286 no unfortunately these are Mavic only propellers 👎 and I haven’t heard of any low noise spark propellers but that would be awesome! I hope DJI is working on that!

LMAO , you crack me up:) I can't believe that it's quieter than the spark. I just sold my mavic because it was just collecting dust , fly my spark so much that the mavic hardly ever got used. I guess I'll be putting in my order now for the platinum and waiting in line for it to arrive... GR8 review !!!!!! Was just getting ready to order the p4 pro plus , not anymore!!!! I did the exact same thing when I originally got my spark. I sold my Mavic as I just wasn’t using it. I think it depends on what you want to use a drone for on whether or not the mavic is better then the phantom. I really miss my phantom 4 but being able to keep my Mavic in my camera bag is a huge plus 😁👍
Do a review! Try sneaking up on people with the Spark and then with the Mavic to show its stealthness haha

are your drones registered with the FAA? I didnt see the stickers with a registration number on your models

It is incredible that mavic pro platinium is heard lees.I thought that the spark was silent wached and listening to your video the spark is heard too compared to the mavic pro platinium.I was about to buy the spark precisely looking for it to sound less than a mavic this video makes me switch to the mavic pro platinium.I have a phantom pro plus.We are in 2018 I will wait 2 weeks to see that dji will do since he has a presentation soon if he makes a phantom 5 that can transport easier whith the phantom 5 otherwise I will go with mavic if they announce a mavic 2 me hire by the mavic.What Im looking for is that its ease to transport.
Oh yeah the platinum is FAR quieter then the Spark.

Squirrel quiet? That sounds like an upcoming video to me... If it's that quiet, I couldn't tell much difference from this end, you should be able to sneak up on some squirrels, just be careful of the trees... hahaha

A prop-less drone. They have internal fans so no prop noise.
How about the battery life dude
think of it as , negative 3db is half as loud as 3db.

I agree! I think the helix doesn’t work as well on the spark due to the 2 axis gimbal. But that 3rd axis of stabilization on the mavic really make that quickshot pop!

So whats the point of a quieter drone?
For me personally I don't like bothering people with the whirring of the props if I don't have to. I seriously hate noise pollution and it drives me crazy to hear bzzzzzzzzzzzzz at my favorite places. So when there's a way to lessen that I think its a huge benefit.
Isn't the motors A.C. instead of D.C.
aameps G37 brushless and they are the exact same as the mavic pro same stator size same everything the only things that are different is the ESC's the props and a hardware change to the camera now there's better 1080p at 60 frames per second compared to the regular mavic Pro

DJI will slowly become the biggest camera and imaging company on earth.

I disagree, DJI is coming for the camera market too. They have one of the only fully stabilized raw cameras on the market right now. And they’ve started released micro four thirds cameras. It’s not far from there to start making regular cameras too.

Just imagine when DJI releases a stealth drone. You just know the military already has them and I’m sure they produce nothing more than a whisper.
Then regulations and penalties for improper drone flights are going to go through the roof.
Oh yea, and that Spark screams. Is annoying as all hell.
Not the motors are different! The esc’s are!
Absolutely! But for the average person that doesn't want to or need to understand variable motor speed it's easier to understand as new motor magic. That's one of the things I aim for is making it understandable for people like me (I'm a very simple person).

This comparison makes no sense. If you're trying to find out whether it is worth the upgrade you need to test it against the regular pro, not some other random product. Oh and do please read up on sound pressure level (or as you call it "science blah blah").
