  • Before You Fly - 10 Steps to setting up your DJI Mavic Pro / Platinum / Alpine White
    ► In this video, I show you my 10 steps to setting up your new DJI Mavic Pro / Platinum / Alpine White drone. I've done a similar video in the past, but a few things like FAA regs and calibrations have changed, so I wanted to do a refresh video. I will be going into more detail later regarding these other areas, but these 10 steps will help you get up in the air fast and safe. I hope both new and experienced flyers can take away some value from this video. If it does help you in any way or if you have questions, please feel free to leave a comment below.

    I've contacted you befor and you've been helpful. I have an issue. When I go into the settings, there appears in the upper right corner a red triangle and next to it it says abnormal. This is after the quad is connected. But it doesn't say what is abnormal. Also there is a intermittent fast tweet that occurs that sounds just like a smoke detector low on batteries. Anyway, if you know what may be causing this please let me know. Thanks

    Thanks for the video! I pulled the trigger and upgraded from the DJI Spark to the Mavic Pro as I picked it up during Black Friday Sale.
    One question. How do you prevent "Braking now. Return sticks to the midpoint first"? I figured it was triggered when I flew directly towards the sun. However, it also occurred when I was flying away from the sun.

    • @FlytPath
      @FlytPath  7 років тому

      +Wenzel Ablola letting go of sticks will slow your craft to a hover. Flying directly into sun sometimes triggers the front sensors

    I just flew my new Mavic Pro Platinum for the first time today. I left everything in the settings it came. And I was flying in beginner mode. would you set your cameras on manual exposure and white balance. I noticed my exposure would change a little during video when I moved the cameras from shooting the ground straight down to forward.

    • @FlytPath
      @FlytPath  6 років тому +1

      If you don’t understand how to properly expose your image, for now just shoot in auto. I recommend manual when you want to take control of your photo and Video settings. Learn photo basics of iso, aperture and shutterspeed.

    • @terrywbreedlove
      @terrywbreedlove 6 років тому

      FlytPath Here is my first try you can see the exposure Change but it is ok was just trying to learn to fly. Took off from my yard and this was my farthest flight about 200 yards is all. Not sure what quality the video was set at. Pretty much straight out of the box settings. ua-cam.com/video/QscKPjgtvME/v-deo.html

    great video, i'm new to drones. bought my first a week ago (yuneec breeze) and now hooked. I travel fulltime in my 45 foot motorhome in the lower 48 states and having the ability to document my travels via drones is awesome. Now wanting to purchase the DJI Mavic but need a little more information on what type of smartphone I would need and/or Ipad. so I currently have a 4 year old Droid Turbo, seems to work fine with the Breeze, but will it work with the Mavic? Also if I decide to use an Ipad, will it need to be both WiFi and Cellular capable? thanks for any comments.

      I use an ipad mini 4 with mine and a lifthor tablet holder. it does not need to have the wifi enabled and does not need to connect to any cell phone. I have about a 3 mile range or a little longer depending on how much charge the battery has in it and if its a newer battery. if you want to use your smart phone it will take android or iPhone. either one works but I have found that an android based device crashes the app more for some reason. hope this all helps you out some.

    Hi Aldryn, great channel. I'm looking to buy either the Platinum or the Alpine White. I like the Alpine White for its camouflage color during the day but I also like the Platinum for its quietness. Which drone do you think is better for not being noticed by others?
    I was thinking that since the White color is harder to see, the Alpine would attract less attention once it reaches 200ft and above; however, I was still able to hear it even at the max altitude of 120m. If I can remember, I think the Platinum is nearly inaudible at 120m, but it is more noticeably seen than the Alpine version. The Alpine version still has a silver bottom with those black circular sensors, and is thus still visible too but not as much as the Platinum I suppose. I know that as the distance increases, both drones are barely noticeable but if I happen to fly near some people at 380ft, I don't want to disturb them as much as possible. I may also just wait for the Pro 2...Thanks for any input!

    • @FlytPath
      @FlytPath  6 років тому +1

      I like how quiet the platinum is and it does make a huge difference imo. You can split the difference and get the alpine white combo and just the quiet props.

    • @Orionsarc12
      @Orionsarc12 6 років тому

      Thank you for the advice! I was thinking about the 8331 propellers too but have you experienced any gimbal vibration when using them on the Pro? Also, are you able to hear the Platinum at 120m above you? I forgot how it sounds at that altitude..Thanks again Aldryn!

    i bought a fly-more kit. and it came with two "other" cam covers, one is a slightly tented cover with two flat tabs inside of it to hold the cam in place just as good as the factory gimbal clamp does. it beats the factory as it is only one part. the other one is black but with the front open to allow air to flow in while in flight. also has the slit for the factory rubber cover. (not available on the first one. no i do not use in flight.

    I've had nothing but issues trying to fly my drone, something you don't realize when you decide on buying one. Everything is restricted with heliports, and try calling one to let them know and they don't even know what to say. I haven't been over 200 ft. I was told not to fly the two times I called. It's not as fun when other people messed it up doing dumb things with drones. I feel like I'm doing something bad when I go to fly mine.

    • @ronaldquint

    I'm almost positive this has been covered somewhere in the comments in one of your videos, but I haven't looked for it and forgive me if you've mentioned it. The reason for the "white ring" on two of the motors and which go with props with white rings is because the Mavic has counter rotating props - a pair of each. The pair of white ring props/motors spin counter clockwise, and the pair props/motors with no ring spin clockwise. This is easily seen by noting the angle of attack of the prop blades. Most importantly for the Mavic, note that these matched props/motors are paired diagonally opposite as are the markings or lack thereof on the motors. Thus properly installed, the opposite forces of torque created by the Mavic's props/motors are thus cancelled out and this results in a stable aircraft.

    One of my Mavic Pro battery indicated "cell error" . How to fix.

      Rian I’ve had that issue a couple times. Fixed it once by putting it into the mavic and Doug a firmware update. Another time on another battery that didn’t work. I Contact led dji and they swapped it out.

      the smart batteries for the mavic also have firmware updates. you need to update each battery especially when you buy new ones. just stick it in the drone and then update. I have five batteries for mine and have had to update each one as I got them.

    I didn't see what devices you can use for the drone.

    My neighbor lives less than a mile from me and she wanted to borrow a cup of sugar, What is the payload if I duct-tape the sugar to my Mavic Pro?

    Please clarify: DJi refresh does NOT REPAIR your drone, It is ALWAYS REPLACED.

    • @FlytPath
      @FlytPath  7 років тому +1

      Yes and no. Depending on the damage, they will give you a quote for repair. A repair does not use up one of your two replacement options. You get 2 replacements for the first year for a low fee, but they also give you the option to pay for the repair. That repair may end up being a full replacement, but it might not technically use up one of your replacement options.

      ok. then explain the different serial # persons received on aircraft after "Repair" option? (not including cosmetics repair of course). Ex. If need motor replacement. process proceeds with only a motor replacement in mind. However a totally different aircraft is returned to the customer. My drone invoice n dji refr. invoice SN# now differs from my returned craft in-hand, or maybe Dji thinks we are all Flat-Eartth-ers lol- (No stereotype intended)

      D Mck from what I know dji will determine the benefit to dona replacement or not based on the damage. When I broke the leg on my mavic they gave me the option to repair the leg or swap it out. I believe dji replaces most of them because it’s a faster turn around time. But they do offer to fix them too

      I'm not debating the options, Repair or Replace. It's down the pipeline of "repair" things get flushed down to "ok, here's a new/refurb. craft, everything works the same." I.E. not ALL selected options of "repair" are sent to the finished line of "repairED". A slide of hands in capitalism to keep turn around time down, I'm guessing. #MAViC Pro II - Skynet 0.2 edition. lol

      Did you crash it? If you have a refresh program, I would opt for replacements. You get two replacements in that year span.
