The problem isn’t Ohio State over TN, but the stupid byes given to two inferior teams that have pushed TN from a deserving host to a road game. This must be corrected moving forward. Guarantee in for conference championship, but not guarantee a bye.
I agree with this, but the conferences wanted their championships to still carry some weight. Makes for an awkward bracket, though. Thanks for watching.
Guaranteed Conf champs is one thing but yeah I agree with you. Guaranteed seeding needs to go. It should be Oregon, Texas, Georgia, Penn St with byes. #5 is ND versus Boise. #6 #7 should be Ohio St or Tennessee. #8 is SMU or Clemson. #9 is Indiana or the Big 12 champ. Rest doesn't matter.
Love the show and the fact that I'm not in East Tennessee now. I appreciate everything this channel does for giving us the orange and white and the facts. I would absolutely love to see a home playoff game but with comparisons =you're not wrong. Go Vols
John you always do a great job and your always objective. I love my vols but Ohio State resume is better that is just a fact. Traveling to Ohio State would be cool I think. Keep up good work man
One of the problems is the SEC beat up on each other this year and the BIG 10 just doesn't have the same caliber of teams under the top 4 in the BIG 10. Even our cellar dweller - Vandy - played well this year.
I love these new shows you’re doing aside from Sunday morning sport source. John enjoy your content! I miss watching sport source on TV but I’m glued to streaming more than TV anyways! Keep up the fantastic work.
Dang, Are these guys ever PRO Tennessee on anything? I dont know why they call themselves " fans". I guess because they make a lot of money off Tennessee.
The computer algorithm should include the crowd attendance for each team. One of the reasons it’s so hard to win on the road in the SEC is the huge stadiums, there aren’t so many huge stadiums in other conferences.
one thing that I get challenged with is the view on rankings past vs now. When Tennessee played Oklahoma they were about 15th in the rankings and Tenn about 6th or 7th. At that time of the season you could not tell that this was a ho-hum match up as it was getting advertised as a marquee game. If its only off of what the rankings are now, you have to hope that whomever you schedule can bounce back and win the rest of their way and look good, therefore continuing to make you look good in the process. I am not sure how fair that is to have to be surgically attached to an opponent long after a team has beat them. Momentum plays a huge role in college football and it can be argued that a hard fought loss to a decent team can be the start of the downward trajectory that a team like Oklahoma found themself before coming back a bit. In other words, if a team has an ongoing responsibility for a past opponent, relying on that opponent's future success as somehow having a hand in Tennessee's current success, then that also should mean a past opponent's losses are attached as well. Which is a no-brainer obviously, however, we seem to favor just the wins of an opponent as positive for Tennessee and the past team's losses as a negative. I contend that a similar argument could be made that a past opponent's losses are due to the team that beat them. It's kind of like Joe Frazier saying that Ali was in the condition he got in because Joe put him in that condition. For football, I admit this sounds like a reach to say that a team's string of losses are due to losing to Tennessee, which I agree. However, their future wins should be viewed the same way then. It gets back to what I posed at the beginning: should a ranking matter at the time of the game being played? Or at the present only? I love your show and always watch. Thank you for posting your content.
I 100% agree with you and have said the same. There is an imperfect element about ranking the teams at the end of the year and then backwards applying it.
See for me the facts are, YES tOSU has a better resume, but if we go by the parameters for literally every other team that lost since the first CFP rankings: Georgia was ranked #3, then lost AT Ole Miss and dropped 9 spots; BYU was ranked #6, then lost AT HOME vs Kansas and dropped 8 spots; UT was ranked #7, then lost AT UGA and dropped 4 spots; IU was ranked #5, lost AT tOSU and dropped 5 spots; Miami was ranked #6, then lost AT Syracuse and dropped 6 spots. tOSU loses AT HOME vs Mich and only drops 4. The problem is here that they are not consistent at all and that this was pretty much the only time they used resume as the factor between two. If they actually were pretty consistent, tOSU should have dropped behind UT. BTW, both UT and tOSU were playing a 6-5 team on the same day, one was on the road, the other at home.
Yeah no one wants homers. That doesn’t help anything and ends with crazy’s having way to high expectations. They have a better resume period regardless of bias.
When it comes to scheduling, no one has a crystal ball to know that a team is going to be awful. Last year Kent state gave Georgia a game for three quarters. You schedule weaker teams for a reason. You get a win and possibly give those on your depth chart experience.
Did you really just entertain that a 3-loss Alabama should be in over a 2-loss Miami? My gosh guys...i was actually understandable on putting tOSU over Vols, but there is no sane universe where a 3-loss Bama who gets blown out by Oklahoma gets in over a 2-loss Miami who lost by 4 pts on the road...not happening, sorry, you lost me there
I sometime think you arent ever for Tennessee . Never sounds like it. If our own sports can't be Homer's sometime, there will never be a push from any po committee, to consider . Give the fans some real hope
I laid out my best case for still getting a homegame. “Giving fans hope” isn’t the job of the media. Want me to tell you how great Jeremy Pruitt will be? Sunday we told you the 2024 Vols are better built for a playoff than the 2022 Vols. Got emails saying we were “silly homers.” We’ll just be honest and let the homers call us haters and the haters call us homers. Thanks for watching.
Here is my thought on people who suggest Tennessee wouldn’t have beaten better teams… that they needed to play 0-12 Kent State, 3-9 UTEP and FCS Chattanooga -- It’s YOU who think Tennessee isn’t really very good. People have to pick a camp: Either UT needed a home game and can beat all comers… or they really aren’t very good so they must play pansies. There’s no middle ground on that.
Rather the 12 than 9 seed. The 4 bye teams setup is garbage. There's no rhyme or reason on how much you drop by losing and the bs putting 3 loss team in due to logo on helmet is travesty
We complained about the BCS and rejoiced to have humans. Now we want to go back lol Both will have flaws, really not sure which is better. Combining both for a final ranking might be best
Strength of Schedule (through Week 13): Ohio State-23rd, Tennessee-49th. Tennessee lost to two-loss Georgia and 6-loss Arkansas. Ohio State lost to undefeated and No.1 ranked Oregon and 5-loss bitter rival Michigan.
A committee will never be fair unless maybe they are from schools that doesn't have a team in po. So don't do po untill last conference champs are through.
Penn State would have to drop more than a typical conference championship game loser drops. Georgia would only need to drop a couple spots, and that’s LESS than a typical conference championship game loser falls. Just a question of the head to head loss and whethee the committee would use that or ignore it. Thanks for watching.
If there isnt a big bowl game for Tenn to go to, just think how much $$$$ Tennessee will lose, and its just tough luck to the fans. Does that sound right? We go 10-2 without a big bowl. wow , explain that to the fans Danny white
Watching TN sport shows is awful. John Pennington is ridiculous. Let's have a killer schedule and lose an extra game and then not complain when the Big 10 plays 9 crappy conference games and gets in. Watching him & Jimmy are like listening to an opposing sports shows every week.
I only agree to the point that UT played a 6-6 NC State at a neutral site. Because its a "conference" game, tOSU got to play a 1-11 Purdue at home. The worst team we played in conference was UK, and I am pretty sure UK could beat Purdue by 20 points.

Yup
My problem isn’t with playing OSU, but rather the bracket that we’re in. Alabama has a much easier path than UT.
Loved this. Can’t wait for this to be a full time thing.

makes way more sense than I first thought... thanks for this video to put things into prospective..... Go Vols
John you always do a great job and your always objective. I love my vols but Ohio State resume is better that is just a fact.

I agree. I live in N GA so I can't see anything TN on local channels down here so I really enjoy these shows.
There is no problem. We were terrible, Heupel is hired, we’re in the playoffs now. Hey Mortimer, We’re Back!
Regardless, I think most vol fans feel if the roles were reversed, Ohio st would still be ranked ahead.
Think they should take the human element out of it. A.I. has come a long way since BCS era. That should fix any bias
Yep, should absolutely go back to computer but they will never do that because they want the ability to move pieces around where they want
Wow, that is complicated. Thanx for the tuff love.
Why do you treat an 11 win team against nobody as a good again? IUs schedule is 106th. 11-1 with that schedule doesnt mean they're good.
The SEC is not getting a three lost team in, Alabama is getting in because they’re three lost team. If it is anybody else it would not happen.
For the next 3 years, Let Tennessee and Ohio State swap their schedules. Then see who wins the most games?
Dang, Are these guys ever PRO Tennessee on anything? I dont know why they call themselves " fans". I guess because they make a lot of money off Tennessee.

It’s really sad we could not get a home game, playing on the road is going to be a 14 point swing for the other team

Also can we use some common sense? Tennessee is undefeated at HOME. Ohio State isn’t. Reward the team that protected its turf
Lose when you are suppose to win by 21 😂😂😂 right a good loss, i don't think so especially at end of season
Who called it a “good loss?”
Votes should never be secret, everyone should be accountable n explain in front of camera
Seriously guys, no way UT shouldn't be in Neyland, best game big audience. Rocking stadium🎉🎉🎉
What are they going to do íf Clemson beats SMU

Vandy probably would have beat Mich if that were the game of the day. lol
Just once, wish you fellas were homers. Knoxville needs to host a playoff game. Give us more Stowelll train and drunk Chucky C!
Guess champagne and victory cigars on set after big wins isn’t postive.
Yeah no one wants homers. That doesn’t help anything and ends with crazy’s having way to high expectations. They have a better resume period regardless of bias.
@@jonathonbrown2128 Y’all are correct, wasn’t trying to be critical.
I really wanted Knoxville to host. I retract my initial statement.

Its all a BIG MESS, NOT FAIR ALL AROUND

A good question they should ask each other is if we switched schedules whats the records

Stop talking bout bama. They shouldnt be in . We hear enough about bama all year
Great exercise study scenario
Massive respect for you all looking at this objectively, and doing the unpopular, but right thing. That's hard to do when it's your team.
Vols just win baby. 🍑🍑🍑
Bring Sterling to the table, at least hecwill be pumped
We complained about the BCS and rejoiced to have humans. Now we want to go back lol

Computer ranking is better, without question. AI and sabermetrics were nowhere near what they are now.
Screw injurys, shouldn't be considered.

How about a magic 8 Ball, would work just as well
A committee will never be fair unless maybe they are from schools that doesn't have a team in po. So don't do po untill last conference champs are through.
Don't forget they used color of uniforms in po picks too 😂😂😂😂
We can get a home game if PSU and GA loses bigly ... IMO

Unfortunately I don't think it's gonna happen
Tennessee will win home or away vs Ohio State
Wow yall got a ton of comments
Penn State and Indiana wouldn’t be top 10 wins in the SEC. That’s the issue.
You should play your in UT system schools over any of these other horrid teams. Then you are just pushing money around within the same account.
Like opponents anyone...

Lol at a lot of the comments on this show. Clueless.
Nd can't be top 4...
Notre Dame can be ranked #4 - they can be ranked #1 - but they can’t get one of the four byes.
