@@skincarefan7742 It's an amazing plant with flowers that go on and on. We've bought E. karvinskianus 'Lavender Lady' this year which is another lovely one 😀
You're very welcome, it's an easy plant to grow for seed and once you have it, it's very easy to propagate from to make even more plants. We love it too.
I always remember the Erigeron Karvinskianus from my childhood as it grew in all the church walls of my hometown and also between steps and paths. I've never heard of the Annus ones. I will get around to watching your garden tour at some point. I've been making the most of the good weather as they keep forecasting rain which hasn't come yet. Hope you're both enjoying your weekend off. xxx
That sounds lovely Wendy, it looks great growing out of walls and in between paths and steps. I think it's more special growing in the church grounds as I can imagine how beautiful it must have looked in that setting. We were only introduced to E. annuus last year but immediately loved it. Since the video was filmed which was a few weeks back, the seeds are already beginning to germinate which is reassuring as I wasn't sure if I got the seed or just petals! It's been lovely today but we've been out all day in Wales so haven't spent any time in the garden apart from watering this morning and moving slugs this evening. We got some more plants from a garden centre there and some lovely yellow geums for the same bargain price as the red ones we bought. Hope you enjoy the garden tour and the rest of the weekend. Xxx
Omg 😲, my hubs just cut some of these in our yard today and put them in a jar for me. I have never grown this but have seen some white ones around our property (3.5 acres) where there is a lot of things growing. I did google it and checked my plant app. They said fleabane and erigeon. I live in zone 6a Ohio, I hope they continue to grow here. What a coincidence 😂!!!!
What a coincidence! 😀 Wow you have so much garden space with 3.5 acres. Erigeron is a lovely plant and it's great that you have it in your garden. It must be happy where it's growing 😀👍
I dont know why in my 41 years of living that I've only learned and fell in love with erigeron karvinskianus a couple months ago. I'm so glad I did though! I live in the US in zone 7b, so they wont be perennials here. A little over two weeks ago, I lightly scattered them on top of moist compost and very lightly pressed them onto the soil. The seller specified to not cover the seeds with soil, because they need light to germinate I have them in a few seed trays and will eventually slowly harden them off to move them into larger nursery planters and thrn ti larger pots on my deck. However, the seller never specified if they need to be covered in vermiculite or have a humidity dome or even saran wrap over them during germinatuon. But, I still decided to cover them with lids anyways. I just read about using vermiculite over them and then found your video. Can you tell me why others say to never cover over the seeds directly when you did cover yours with the vermiculilte. I am a little new to dabbling in outdoor plants grown from seeds. What does the vermiculite do for them and do you cover the trays with a plastic lid even when you cover the seedlings with vermiculite. Mine are in my mudroom, in seed trays under grow lights. I do not have seed tray lids though. Nothing seemed to start germinating for well over a week so i directed to cover the trays with with saran wrap. Now tiny little seedlings are popping up...finally! Should I keep the saran wrap over them still or toss that and just keep them lightly moisted under grow light with no covers over the seed trays? Any tips and tricks to grow them correctly inside would be so appreciated!!
Thanks for your questions, we usually cover all our seeds with vermiculite even the ones that need light to germinate because vermiculite can allow some light in. It’s also good at holding some moisture so seeds and seedlings take a bit longer to dry out so less watering. We don’t use lids on our seed trays or any heat sources. Whatever you have done seems to have worked and you are now getting germination so that’s great news. Putting the wrap over them may have helped but they can take a few weeks to germinate so they may have germinated without this anyway. You could do an experiment next time and cover one tray with wrap and another without to see if there is any difference (that’s the scientist in me!). Erigeron karvinskianus is such a beautiful plant and well worth growing for months and months of flowers. Thanks for watching 😀
My garden is full of Erigeron. It will flower May through to November if you keep cutting it back and it will produce more and more flowers. Ps it self seeds so you’ll see it pop up all over in cracks in paving etc. A very hardy perennial plant.
Would that be Dove Cottage, I bought both these Erigerons from there, the Karvinskianus years ago a wonderful little plant and the Annuus just recently, a favourite nursery of mine for sure bought lots of great plants from them.
You're right it was Dove Cottage, we've been visiting for years and always come back with interesting finds. We loved the garden there too but it's no longer open sadly. The owners are lovely and very knowledgeable. We always learn something new too.
I keep trying to successfully sow these in Virginia. No luck. I will try this method , keeping them indoors. It is June here. Too late? I am determined to grow erigerum karvanaus
It's not too late to sow, hope you have more luck with this method. Ours germinated within a few weeks and need pricking out now. E. karvinskianus is a wonderful plant and worth persevering with.
Love Erigeron.

Should you pinch out the young plants for bushiness?
Thanks
.
We've not found pinching out to be necessary as they naturally bush out very quickly without it.

Do they do well in shade?
They do best in full sun but are OK in part shade. I wouldn't plant them in full shade.
