Especially since nobody seems to sell the angled adapters for the Dana axle on their own at a sensible price. Either you have to buy a whole adapter set that includes them for about $60-70, or the specific 2-piece Jeep/Dodge set for about the same price.
I like the video, but I have one suggestion. When using a torque wrench you need to use a "slow and steady" motion, rather than jerking the wrench while tightening. Might tackle my ball joints this weekend.. thanks for the video, very helpful.
thanks !!! great video. I would just add (as you did here) to shim this correctly (upper ball joint). I had to restart a few times to get the ball joint in straight. I think there is a jeep adapter for this that you might not be able to get from the loaner press. Just makes it much easier to push in straight :-).
Don't they make ball joints with zerk fittings so you can grease them up regularly? I noticed these appear to lack such fittings, and wonder why you went in that direction.
@chumperdink LPS3 is just a rust inhibitor. You spray it on bolts or whatever and it dries into a waxy film that keeps the water (and salt) out. FANTASTIC stuff.... lpslabs.com/product_pg/corrosion_pg/LPS3.html
Stupid tablet! anyway ... Wouldn't this be the perfect time to change out the axle joint and put a new axle seal or is it way more work than it appears to be here?
Hope you respond I'm working on my 00 jeep Cherokee sport I just replaced the hub but my brother stripped the hole where the caliber bolts goes into the steering knuckle now I need a new one what are the socket sizes for removing the knuckle? I saw the bottom one im,guessing 36mm? What else ?
That's just a standard1/2" drive torque wrench, you should be able to get one at any parts store. This is available at advanceautoparts . com for like $28
Why all the grunting? That axle/hub isn't that heavy :) .You should have used that cheap torque wrench to ratchet the press. Remember kids: always wear eye protection when working with tools from Harbor Freight. I've seen those presses and pitman arm pullers explode. Good vids! XJ's rule! Death Wobble sucks! And don't let anybody tell you a new stabilizer/damper will cure DW - I still run without one.
@OHHEYO yes it did, but I knew the joint was bad and was probably causing it. Check out some of my other videos that show the bad joint before taking everything apart: watch?v=3P2gjTPJ_kQ watch?v=0O4A0o-2syE
Great video I will be refering to all your videos when needed.Have a 92 Cherokee xj 127000 only .Thanks again
Glad to help. I have to do my other side once the weather warms up. Good luck on yours!
I have replaced everything but the ball joints trying to fix my DW issues thanks for the vid this is my next fix!
Great job, Thanks for the detailed work.
Really like the washer shim idea. It is a pain to drive the new joints in straight.

@Roadsurfergo thanks, hope you enjoyed it!
