Thanks for being here! Our final Remedyverse episode (for now!) will be out on July 1st. QUICK CORRECTION - I forgot to tell Neil and Chase that Emily Pope becomes the new Head of Research (whoops!) They have since been filled in, to which they both said "yas!" - Monty
I love how the Ash tapes subtly reinforce the theme of "belief gives things power", all he did was give names to random Ids and instantly him and the audience have an emotional connection to them.
46:50 Jesse actually called Emily down to the Foundation implicitly, when she discovers the Astral Bleed for the first time she mutters to herself how good it would be to have her new Head of Research here
It's just funny she doesn't know she pushes thoughts to people. Ahti communicates telepathically with her a bunch of times and she doesn't think anything of it
Interesting to note that the game keeps mentioning a sword in relation to the Service Weapon - the Board refer to it as 'The Gun/Sword' when Jesse first picks it up, the FBC speculate that it may originally have been Excalibur as well as Mjölnir and several other 'only the worthy may wield' legendary weapons, and Ash mentions that it's weird Northmoor received a gun from the Board because in stories it's normally a sword. All this to say that, as someone who really likes hack-and-slash games, if Control 2 gives us a sword form for the Service Weapon I'd be down for that (and, hey, Chase may actually play it then!)
Yes. It is a metaphysical, conceptual weapon that takes the form of the Dimension and generation it is in. So, the appearance depends on the way the Collective Unconscious of the World is.
i'm gonna have to be "that person" and say that, in the original myths, Thor didn't wield Mjölnir because he was worthy, he wielded it cos Mjölnir was super heavy and Thor was super strong.
Langstrom wrote the Tennyson report. Not only does he talk about being connected to the entities in the Panopticon and says that rituals aren't superstition if they work, in AWE, he talks at length about his cat, who he named after his favorite poet. Alfred (Tennyson)
1:04:45 Also fun fact for the Astral Spikes. If I remember correctly, they come into our reality by bursting out of people's heads when they're traversing the Astral Plane. It was said in the previous episode, but some people can go into the Astral Plane when they're unconscious, and the FBC has managed to get some pictures of it thanks to that. They're primarily denizens of the Astral Plane, and you usually find them there
A little sad the Former appearing in the Foundation at the end didnt get mentioned, would have been some great reactions. Hoping it comes up in the next one, this was a great vid
43:20 It's implied that the Tennyson Report is Langston's doing. His cat's name is Alfred as in Alfred Tennyson and he has these vibes when you first meet him when he's talking about not treating Altered Items as prisoners but idols worth of worship etc. He's also got no good thing to say about the Northmoor inner circle
You can also find a report by him complaining about the treatment of the AIs, and how they respond better to rituals than testing. A document regarding the Tennyson report can also be found in the base game regarding how furious Trench was about it, indicating that it happened fairly recently. Worth mentioning that Langston is fond of poetry, his previous cat was named Sylvia (Plath) and, well, I'm sure you'll mention the tape you find the AWE. I really hope he becomes a bigger character in the sequel, I actually kind of liked him.
@@profdrackoyeah there is a theory that it's likely that the Tennyson report was likely partly responsible for feeding Trench's paranoia and we know how that ended
I don’t know if somebody already pointed this out. But the reason Jessie took so long to find the Oldest House is because it hides itself, you basically can only find it if you’re actively looking for it (meaning the Oldest House, not just the FBC) or already knows where it is. The Oldest House is inspired on the 33 Thomas Street building in New York, a giant concrete monolith without any windows that absolutely nobody notices unless somebody points it out. It’s really freaky Also, when we se that board with photos of Jessie there’s P7 written somewhere (don’t remember exactly), leading me to believe that Jessie was also groomed to be director. Like her and Dylan were two methods they were testing
Darling had been observing her for years. She is definitely P7 but a Control is only observed and not experimented on. She had to find the house herself

35:27 I don’t know if it’s been said by others or if Monty mentioned this in the first Control vid, but in regards to Chase’s critiques of the control points, one of the things about the FBC is that they aren’t in control of as much as they’d like, even with their base of operations. The Oldest House doesn’t serve the Bureau and only kind of allows the Bureau to reside within. Same goes for how it remains hidden, it only ever lets itself be seen by people
Is it possible that the pyramid thats shown when the board is talking is actually the bottom of the nail that's piercing the astral plane and holding the two planes together?
18:35 also, I'm pretty sure that in the main lobby of the research sector, we can see a quote from Theodore Ash (in gold-coloured metal), set into black marble.
My hope for whenever she shows up next, be it in AW2 or not until Control 2, is that Jesse reacts to something happening with a sighed-out, "Perkele." Like, the idea that she's been working with/for Ahti for long enough to have started picking up some of his way of speaking. (I just had this thought recently and needed _somewhere_ to say it.) Anyway, great episode as ever. One thing I noticed you missed, though, in re: matters of Ash Jr. and the Former and such, is the side quest involving Ash's secret lab and the second smaller Nail that's there. (I also noticed you referred to the things Jesse fixes as "nails", when the Board actually calls them "locks"; presumably as far as they're concerned, there's only one Nail, although they don't know about the mini-Nail.) I wonder just what it was like, from Emily's perspective, when Jesse's like, "I wish Emily was here", and suddenly Emily just Knows[tm], "Jesse -my dearest love aside from science- needs me -not like that at least not right now- in this place and I know how to get there." Like, is it a Director thing (although if so, presumably she wouldn't need a radio to call for Ranger backup), or a Polaris thing (HRAs do resonate on Polaris'/Hedron's frequencies; does that affect people beyond just protecting them from the Hiss?), or what? I know we don't find out, but like I said, I wonder.
As long as they get Courtney Hope to pronounce that "Perkele." correctly. That butchered perkele from Otso "supposedly of Finnish descent and allegedly a semi-native speaker even if with a slightly muddled accent" Berg in Assassin's Creed Rogue did enough damage to my soul to last several lifetimes.
You forgot to mention that after the dlc is complete/the nail is fixed. You can see the former in the distance rise up and fly away, very much not in the astral plane anymore...
I just want to express how much I love you three. Note for Monty: if y'all would be interested in doing a side dump about House of Leaves, please reach out as I'd LOVE to take y'all through it and could have the script written up in short order. Not only is it the direct inspiration for The Oldest House, but for Silent Hill 4 as well. The explicit inspiration is why I ended up getting into the Remedyverse. Might be fun? Thank y'all so much for this and all the other dumps. I can't count how many rewatches I've done. When I'm feeling the weight of a big ole life dump, I have y'all to turn to. (Sorry for "y'all"in all over the comment. I am, in fact, Southern American.)
Massively appreciate the offer (and the y'all) but we are STACKED for the foreseeable future with everything we want to cover. We're already bleeding into 2025 with our plans, and finding weekends when we're all free is a struggle as is!
Is it possible that The Former was the literal former inhabitant of the oldest house and The Board have kicked him out in a hostile takeover. Like a new god replacing an old god. I also think The Nail is the point of entry into our plane. You talked about the two pyramids touching and it's like that. One pyramid touching an entry point and projecting out into our world in reverse.
Another wonderful dump to peruse but again catches me on a busy day lads. Will def be sitting down for this the exact moment I have time. Cheers and hope all is well for you three.
The oldest house is/was most certainly a real federal government office. The real building is called the AT&T long lines building, 33 Thomas St. Same address in game and real life. The CIA had an office there.
"I'm sorry, you don't get to read us fucking 30 hours of Kingdom Hearts and then complain about cleansing!" Incredible lmao Also, the ending song slaps. It needs to be your outro music moving forward
alright, I've finally caught up to all the Control videos after actually *playing* the game myself, and those have been a BLAST. however. there's one issue I'm having with you all discussing Ahti and his role. Ahti has been given such a name after a sea/water god. by whom? his creator, Sam *Lake* who is a Finn. he makes references to "clog" as his enemy, and is one to "clean up everyone's messes", which is why he's a janitor. Hiss... seems to be a possible aspect of what Darkness is? and Ahti asks Jesse to be his *helper* in cleaning duties, which coincides with the need to "clean up" Hiss. also, his vacation postcadd in this very DLC, iirc, is from Watery, Washington, which might be (might be not) close to Bright Falls. he's either an author stand in - not Lake, but Ocean. or he's *THE* ocean that Alan Wake talks about in the ending, holding all the mess in Bright Falls with his power, unable to walk away until someone helps him fix this problem, forced to be in a human body. he asks us through Jesse to help him clean up after messes Alan Wake and his (possible?) predecessors made by awakening (perpetuating) the clog of Darkness. that's the interpretations I feel like would be more... satisfying? it also might be that pseudonym was originally used to fit to the Western standards in the industry, using a pseudonym for work, and Järvi is finally defying these by unabashedly naming a character with a Finnish name and forcing people to hear Finnish language in its full sweary glory /pos
The way that Ahti speaks of the Board, saying that they'd be fools not to hire Jesse, seems to imply that he is separate from the board - I think that Ahti is a manifestation of the Oldest House (perhaps the being that Dr. Ash was learning to communicate with), and that he's allowing the Board to reside there. Basically, he's the landlord. If the Board piss him off, he can evict them, so if there is a fight between Jesse and Ahti, it'll be because the Board didn't pay rent.
Another excellent episode! So many great moments. Can't wait for the final episode. Also really looking forward to Neil leading an episode in the future. Thanks for all the fun/hard work! ❤
Cosmic Entity rips through the fabric of time and space into the Office of Lore Dump. In a noise inconceivable to the human ear the Lore Dump team hears in the deepest recesses of their minds, "I identify as an Attack Helicopter."
Monty, I can't believe that you didn't mention the last shot of The Foundation, the camera zooming in on the representation of the Board in Central Executive while also flipping it upside down, ala Ash wondering about if somebody is up at the base looking down at us looking up at the top of the Board. And the symbolism of inverted vs right side up depictions of pyramids. That final shot sent chills down my spine lol - it felt like a promise/ threat.
Love Lore dump and all the episodes you do, thank you! Just a correction for Chase however, a lot of Greggs may close in the afternoon/evening, in Newcastle they are open 7am - 4am!
This is great, thanks for all the videos! First time I use the download function on UA-cam so I can watch them on the plane. I'm at the middle of the video, but I couldnt wait to write down about this. The similarity between the Director figure and the Archivist figure in the Magnus archives is something. Maybe this is a fight between cosmic horrors to take control, Jesse is the avatar of the board, Ahti avatar for the oldest house, Dylan for the Hiss. We could see more entities and avatars in the future (the not mother maybe?)
Fantastic ep as always guys! Excited to listen to the final Control installment. I just want to say Monty you are doing a fantastic job describing these very complex games! I know it's near impossible to express the feeling one gets when playing a game solely through words and static pictures, and despite the ribbings when you miscommunicate something or forget a key part I feel you convey each game with such passion and do nail the of each game you describe. I love Lore Dump, when an ep is uploaded it brightens my day! I eagerly await hearing an ep where the ever wise Neil gets to describe a game he's passionate about! Keep up the good work lads! EDIT: 1:01:10 GET EM ROAST CHASE FOR KH 🤣KH has a special place in my heart: I've followed KH since it came out as a kid. But don't pretend KH makes more sense than any other game!!! It's ! Honestly didn't notice any weird noises in Neil's editing! Though I'm easy to please, but the end song is 10/10 Monty 😙👌
I think the Id show up at points in the base game, too. The tutorial enemies that you run into on the Astral Plane and the friendly NPCs that the board sends to help you kill off the Hiss in the last chunk of the game fit the description Ash gives the Id.
The service weapon is referred to at one point in a communication from the board as Excalibur and also Mjolnir which infers it has been a mythological weapon throughout time. Additionally, the house is referred to as the tree because it also shifts shape and location through time. It was Yggdrasil as will most likely be other referred to with the name of other mythical halls and locations in future games.
Gave the Magnus Archives a full listen for the first time in between the first Control episode and this one - the name Helen is giving me flashbacks lol
I remember dying a lot on the boss fight at the end of this dlc. The only boss fights I thought were alright were the Former and the boss from the next dlc
@19:26 interesting thought about why people don't see the bureau from the outside: There are various cognitive and neurological impairments that affect our perception of reality. For example, there's one which causes the mind to ignore either the left or the right field of perception. So if you ask someone with this condition to draw a clock, they will draw half a clock and then try to put all of the numbers from 1 to 12 on one side, because intellectually they know there must be 12, so they try to fit it in, but they cannot perceive the full clock. I'm sure I'm explaining it badly. But in Control, if you can manipulate people's brains through resonance or other means, It's entirely believable that you could completely erase a building from their conscious perception, even if they subconsciously avoid it (e.g. They don't walk straight into it).
"I don't appreciate you telling me what I can/can't have" I think that was the right quote. Why didn't you covered the other side mission that involved Ahti?!
Loved this video and this dlc .It was interesting getting an idea of what the former wants. Also sad that you didn't mention it offering Jessie a panini.Though not everything can be covered..Still loved the video great work Monty and crew
59:19 I think the Board changed their mind because spoiler alert, you need both powers to cleanse some of the monoliths. If Former hadn't given her the other power-up, she wouldn't be able to fix the Nail. That probably influenced the turnaround lol
It’s definitely one that would be really fun! I’ve played Borderlands 2, 3, and the first Tales game (loved that one!) but none of the DLC. Maybe in the future but not next year. We’ve got a packed schedule with some fun series! 👀
I feel as though I have been bamboozled. I was really gunning for you to do both DLCs today. Hey, thanks for the lovely message! If you're really keen to get it early, you can catch the next episode on the Monty Zander patreon, all episodes go up super early and ad-free there!
@@LoreDump well I suppose if you're going to be twisting my arm about it😂😂😂 just signed up for your patreon. I suppose since you've convinced me to play several games at this point I owe least that much to you. Absolutely thrilled to be supporting you for lore dump and for your other channel ❤️❤️
There's strong evidence that the Tennyson Report was written by Langston, actually. Namely the fact that he's really into poetry, advocates for more "humane" treatment of altered items and OOPs, and that his first cat was named Alfred after his favourite poet... and guess what's Lord Tennyson's first name? 😂
At the risk of being a bit pedantic, would say "Aristotelian" is not so much about binaries, but something conforming logical perception of the of the world as seen through the lens of the teachings of Aristotle. For simplicity's sake this could be described as something making "common sense" as most of us understand it. Fire makes things hot, things fall down not up, that sort of things to put it very crudely, so in this context the Oldest House not conforming to Aristotelian logic is just likely a way of saying it works differently from how we expect things to work. Again sorry for being pedantic, good episode.
This game is so cool//curious. It spawns so many questions. I am looking forward to//searching for the next episode//secret. Additionally, the final scene//reprimand is hilarious//disturbing//AAAHHH. I must thank//regret you//everything.
@11:35 "I think the time travel cave!" Woah. Yeah. This could be an interesting way of tying the two games together in the future. Am I correct in remembering that It is implied that Mr Hatch is ancient, at least in terms of subjective time? My imagination is piqued now
Sacrificed himself and left in darkness for ten years? Plagued by a dark clone of himself? Kind of distant to everyone and yet somehow still best girl? So basically Alan Wake is Aqua right?
About the shape of the nail and the board, and one sloting down into the other. Let's do it slightly differently, but first keep it in mind how "the board" and all their crap sounds all very coorporate of them. Now, back to the image. Take that classic image of the nail with the V on top very clearly visible, and imagine the board's inversed pyramid above it, but not yet touching, just aligned for the perfect "drop" into the nail's notch or had just broken away from it in a perfectly straight line upwards (same thing, just different time directions). Now look at the yellow and black versions of the Monarch logo from Quantum Break. Maybe there is a connection here.
Still loving the show. Neil is still fucking great (same goes to Monty and Chase.) Excited for AWE. You guys should consider a bimonthly schedule for releases. I think it would help with subscribers and retention.
Greggs: It's not good, but it's good enough. About once a month I'll order one of their sharing deals, and that'll be my food sorted for the next couple days. By ny 6th meal of pizza i remember why I only do it once a month.
Excellent once again, the banter is as always is fantastic. I rate this episode "Mario" out of 10. Also holy poop that last minute, PLEASE CAN YOU RELEASE THAT AS A STAND ALONE VIDEO WITH ZERO EXPLANATION
Hmm had a thought of if you guys read SCP stories that the others didn't know about...I mean in-between game lore dumps I'd love to hear you guys discuss more is what I'm saying keep doing great.

I wonder just what it was like, from Emily's perspective, when Jesse's like, "I wish Emily was here", and suddenly Emily just Knows[tm], "Jesse -my dearest love aside from science- needs me -not like that at least not right now- in this place and I know how to get there." Like, is it a Director thing (although if so, presumably she wouldn't need a radio to call for Ranger backup), or a Polaris thing (HRAs do resonate on Polaris'/Hedron's frequencies; does that affect people beyond just protecting them from the Hiss?), or what? I know we don't find out, but like I said, I wonder.
As long as they get Courtney Hope to pronounce that "Perkele." correctly. That butchered perkele from Otso "supposedly of Finnish descent and allegedly a semi-native speaker even if with a slightly muddled accent" Berg in Assassin's Creed Rogue did enough damage to my soul to last several lifetimes.
@@MarmelaadiJohanssoni Oh, sure, but I'm taking it as read that Martti Suosalo and the other Finns at Remedy would make sure she got it right. 😃
I love how the Remedyverse is low-key vengeance against Chase for Kingdom Hearts
You forgot to mention that after the dlc is complete/the nail is fixed. You can see the former in the distance rise up and fly away, very much not in the astral plane anymore...
You know, the Board does look like a giant Black Wedge, being driven toward the ground. Like a parasite.
Another great episode I just love Lore Dump. The premise, the cast, it all just works so well.
As a big fan, that's great to hear! I wish you luck with the wedding and with all the dumps to come 💓
Is it possible that The Former was the literal former inhabitant of the oldest house and The Board have kicked him out in a hostile takeover. Like a new god replacing an old god.
I also think The Nail is the point of entry into our plane. You talked about the two pyramids touching and it's like that. One pyramid touching an entry point and projecting out into our world in reverse.
I clicked on this the second i saw this, so cheeky that you'd split up this and AWE i cant wait to see what you guys have to say about it
Another awesome episode! I think Niel did an awesome job on the editing, and the remix at the end was very fun!
Another wonderful dump to peruse but again catches me on a busy day lads. Will def be sitting down for this the exact moment I have time. Cheers and hope all is well for you three.
Getting excited for Allan Wake 2!!
I'm taking a break from the Lore Dump to say how much I loved the LOTR segways in this episode. Props to chase for his dwarf door call outs.
Please. We need more unedited shenanigans. 😂 loved that ending.
The oldest house is/was most certainly a real federal government office. The real building is called the AT&T long lines building, 33 Thomas St. Same address in game and real life. The CIA had an office there.
How is it that I'm bummed there's only an hour of lore dump shenanigans for my Friday? Inject this shit directly into my veins
"I'm sorry, you don't get to read us fucking 30 hours of Kingdom Hearts and then complain about cleansing!" Incredible lmao
Also, the ending song slaps.
Got something to listen to in my drive to work. Been waiting for my Dump
I have completed all of control and both dlcs in preparation for these episodes. Can’t wait to binge these episodes
Always delighted when Lore Dump shows up with a new video.
I was just asking for this, in my head, yesterday!
And now it's here.
Cosmic Entity rips through the fabric of time and space into the Office of Lore Dump.
In a noise inconceivable to the human ear the Lore Dump team hears in the deepest recesses of their minds, "I identify as an Attack Helicopter."
Wonderful ending. True podcast lore acquired.
"god damn it Marshall" from Neil killed me. 😭
I love Chase, they had “Bessie” there for the taking but went for “Jeth” 😂
Babe, babe, a new lore dump just dropped
I so want a/multiple:
T-Shirt/Merch/Clothes
Maybe one could be the text on the front and a Dropped/Spilled/Discarded Adult Juice/Egg on the back.
idk about anyone else. but after the ending of this video... i have most certainly been teased to the MAX
Gave the Magnus Archives a full listen for the first time in between the first Control episode and this one - the name Helen is giving me flashbacks lol
"Shut the f*ck up Niel" got me giggling at work :D
I obviously had some pent-up stuff that I wasn't aware of there- Neil
You gents are Cracked! 😂 that ending had me dying good work boys! As always thank you so much for uploading we appreciate you ❤
Loved this video and this dlc .It was interesting getting an idea of what the former wants.
Your remix/reogranization is most pleasing/welcome.
I really like the theory of Dylan and Jesse being one and getting split
1:00:34 is one of the funniest Neil moments in Lore Dump so far. He was having none of it.
I'm here to interact for the scp that is the UA-cam algorithm
Knighted by a gun ... so pistol whiped?
DAMMIT. 10/10 comment
Always so excited when ever I see a new Lore Dump. Are any of you able to lead a Borderlands Lore Dump? I'd love to hear your view on it
It’s definitely one that would be really fun! I’ve played Borderlands 2, 3, and the first Tales game (loved that one!) but none of the DLC. Maybe in the future but not next year. We’ve got a packed schedule with some fun series! 👀
What about the fact that Dr. Darling was recently seen in Finland, taking coffee from authentic Oh deer diner thermos?
These videos are absolutely brilliant, excited to deep dive the rest of your channel!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy the 20+ hours of Kingdom Hearts madness...
I feel as though I have been bamboozled. I was really gunning for you to do both DLCs today. I'm so excited to listen to you guys talk about the AWE dlc😂😂 but I love this anyways and we'll wait with extreme impatience for the next lore dump to drop😂😂
And Monty something I would like to correct you on about the Tennyson report I know you technically don't find the information for this until AWE but it is actually implied that Langston wrote the Tennyson report.
Absolutely thrilled to be supporting you for lore dump and for your other channel ❤️❤️
i. have. a. mighty. need. just for that end song. i need it so badly for reasons.
I would love a Metro series Lore Dump sometime in the future, seems like a Monty game
the ending of the video, I want more!
Maaaaaaaaaan I already know I'm gonna wake up at like 4 am hearing that intro sooner or later. 😂 Glad yall back w/ another 🐐 session 🙏🏽
Just wanna say that "Teased to the Max" track slaps
30 seconds, exactly as fast as I want to be here. But imma have to watch twice cause I'm falling asleep watching this
There's strong evidence that the Tennyson Report was written by Langston, actually.
I found out yesterday.. the UK does in fact now have Dunkin Donuts as well.. along with Taco Bell
This game is so cool//curious. It spawns so many questions. I am looking forward to//searching for the next episode//secret. Additionally, the final scene//reprimand is hilarious//disturbing//AAAHHH. I must thank//regret you//everything.
i CANNOT WAIT for bioshock later this year im so hyped
Grab the popcorn! New Lore Dump just dropped!
@11:35 "I think the time travel cave!"
Woah.
Great lore dump super excited for AWE.
Wow is there a hill that Chase isn’t ready to die on?
Great way to start my morning. ❤
No mention of the Ahti tv sidequest or the cat ears? Tragic.
perfect ending
And maybe also edit in Jesse's reaction to "Dynamite", like this is what she got instead of the actual "Dynamite".
Okay time to listen to this again. Love it!
Alan Wake 2 and it's new deuteragonist: Jesse the Magpie
Imagine cutting out the weird noises... Never do that XD
Looks like i need to finish this game.
Someone's gonna make Teased to the Max their ringtone.
Not me. But I'm sure Someone is gonna.
Can't believe I missed this!!!
7:02 speak friend and enter...
Hmm had a thought of if you guys read SCP stories that the others didn't know about...I mean in-between game lore dumps I'd love to hear you guys discuss more is what I'm saying keep doing great.
