Don't know why the stand wasn't latched into the elevators first, unless the derrickhand missed the latch. Also the pipe should have been racked on a gatorback or in a birdbath on the rig floor. Seen lots of accidents when I worked rigs, but fortunately never a fatality.
@BobsUruncle-dl7csWait let me get this straight. You are sitting here speaking about safety and putting crews in dangerous positions, but finish by saying when you were almost killed by a whip you made the conscious decision to intentionally send a whip back up? I’m all for physical confrontation but that makes zero sense
The Toolpusher caused this fatal accident when he had somebody put a chain on the stand and then he pulled up on the stand with the air tugger... Who knows what happened uptop because the animation dosen't show the stand in the elevators, nor does it show the elevators. The toolpusher tried to cowboy up on the stand with the (invisable) air tugger and caused the stand to lock and load in or against the elevators. "Well... I hate to say it... but you ain't a roughneck in West Texas unless you get killed!" ...and if you don't know how to run 2 7/8 back in the hole... you shouldn't be pushing tools.
This almost happened to me but with 4 1/2 drill pipe that was dropped by the derrickman into the backside of the Derrick, the driller told us to pull it back with an airhoist, meanwhile the bottom of the stand started to slide and almost slid of the rig floor out the v-door, it would have been catastrophic. Luckily we got th3 stand back in to the board and latched into the elevators to pull it back up and set it backinto place.
It looks like the company was saving money by using the same small triple drilling rig that drilled the well to do the work which should have been done by a service rig. Even the biggest service rigs only use double tubing stands because of the flexible nature of the tubing.
Did the derrick hand miss the elevators and drop the stand of pipe into the back of the draw works. There should have been gator matting on the rack back, and v-door area to keep the pipe from kicking like that. Plus the floor hand should have been using a catch road and standing off to the side and out of the way of a kick back like that. I know though. Take little shortcuts to speed things up. Time is money, but it also could kill you. Slow, steady, and perfect is always better than hurry, soppy, and dangerous my driller used to always say.
So what actually killed the guy when he was first hit before being airborne or when hitting the ground, or the pipe hitting him after he was on the ground?
So they all saw the issues with their own eyes and continued to work like that? Very sad to see people die on the job. Even sadder that workers feel they can't speak up about safety issues out of fear of losing their jobs.
well, that was a nice salto mortale literally..damn so many parts are rotating or under heavy tension..its dangerous in every second..i would not do that job for a million dollars...fuck that oil drilling..
Animations like this are used in court for a jury to see. The lawyer presenting this will be describing what is going on as it plays. He will be using a remote to stop, back-up, and replay parts he wants to emphasize. Adding sound would only get in the way.
Women!! I hear equality calling! Oil derrick jobs ARE available. You just need to apply. You make EXCELLENT money, lots of hours, and get plenty of exercise. Your opportunity awaits!
Ok,so in the animation the driller is not running the rig, they pulled up on the stand before it was latched in the elevators and gravity did its thing. Never seen anything so stupid.
can you believe that shark survived? it ended up on the deck of the ship flopping around so the crew through it back in the water. saw the whole video on tv many years ago.
Don't know for sure, with years of working on drilling rigs, I would answer No. That's 30ft from the ground to the floor and this hand was kicked way out to the end of the pipe rack. Probably the kick itself got him. In all my years, nobody would have done that "worm' move, hooking a hoist at the bottom of the heavy-wall pipe (flex pipe).
tool push on a rig floor....Im not gonna be happy as a floor hand! How long has it been since any push worked the floor! He would be the most dangerous guy there and it was his fault! And why didnt the derrick hand latch the elevators or did he miss!? I worked the rigs in northern Canada in crazy cold weather and seen some stuff but never a fatality.
I think the jury needs to see the him dying animation from at least 5 more angles to understand what happened.
Wise man once told me "Slow is smooth and smooth is fast."
“Mom I want USCSB”
“We have USCSB at home”
USCSB at home:
I was having a bad day until I read this comment 😂
That is some compelling animation.
It's like when you died in Golden eye
They show you different angles
Omg this is horrible but you have laughing so hard
@@gamer_eliaz9519 hahaha
Good accident investigation and animation.

Exactly
@BobsUruncle-dl7cswow great explanation, really appreciate it

I thought the pipe just bowed until it popped out of the fingers, then it was a free-for-all all.
Really nice work

It's a good thing I watched this.

Missed the elevator, its why we always use the pipe matts on our rigs

i feel like some Garry's Mod ragdoll physics woud greatly accentuate the plaintiff's case here

My Grandfather was killed in a similar type rig accident in 1952 in the Hospah field.
What caused the stand of pipe to lift if it wasn't attached too the elevators?
You've got to tuck your knees if you want to complete the landing. Everybody knows that
So what actually killed the guy when he was first hit before being airborne or when hitting the ground, or the pipe hitting him after he was on the ground?
Im a dentist and i see this all the time, it happens a lot
Anyone else read the narration in the soft tone voice of the cbs video guy?

Nobody commented on the backflip , I gave him a 6/10
but he did nail the landing
a person died. chill with the edge.
Not clear what kicked the pipe foward at the top. Or what kicked the bottom out.
That darned East German judge only gave him a 6.8 because he didn’t stick the landing.
well, that was a nice salto mortale literally..damn so many parts are rotating or under heavy tension..its dangerous in every second..i would not do that job for a million dollars...fuck that oil drilling..
I didn't anticipate this particular hazard at all... not one bit. Yikes.
Same! I gasped. I thought it would be fire related or fixtures falling on them.
Always stay to one side of the pipe or another.. never behind it or underneath
If its unsafe to rack the pipe in the derrick ~ lay the pipe down . ya its a lot of work , thats the big bucks !
Your right!
@Bobs Uruncle these boyz aren't as talented as US !
Why is there no sound?
Title says trial animation; evidently they just needed the visuals for the jury to understand what happened.

45 minutes from monhonas tx
Ive worked there

Did he recover?
I’m pretty sure the photo at 4:21 of his body stuck under the pipe with his head in a pool of blood suggest no.
New long jump record. Didn't stick landing tho

ok so.. who gets injured again? maybe i overlooked it?
His hed come off?
The fac the animation turns into... is it a real photo or highly rendered 3d image? is a good thing to show that yeah this guy died,
Good luck
I dont follow what happened like what went wrong
Teach me how to make animation sketch
Motorman always looks up
can you believe that shark survived? it ended up on the deck of the ship flopping around so the crew through it back in the water. saw the whole video on tv many years ago.
I think your comment belongs to another video.
Imagine teleporting to another universe mid sentence and everything you’re saying just lost all context
Can’t hear
Did the injured hand survive the accident?

"Bowing ev1 ?!" 🤔🤔 4x ?
Anyhow: .dangerous jobs !
Even for Engineers ! 😵😵
There has to be more to this than what was shown? It seems biased. Many more moving things to consider. This animation shows and means nothing.
Looks like a bunch of newbies on that first time out
This is worse then in India :/
Toolpusher is a murderer
This is actually a very limited animation if your trying to be accurate for a jury. Way more going on than this shows
jaja no puede ser asi falso
Wait. There’s no one reading the script out loud?
Not in the mood to read. 😐

Should of run a smaller rig to hanfle to smaller string
do you think so?
