      Imagine the oil reserves in the West Philippine Sea; this is why China is pushing to take over the Southeast Asian Sea. The oil reserves in the West Philippine Sea could become the largest in the world, potentially supplying around 50% of the world's oil. This could significantly boost the global economy. This highlights the wealth of the Philippines."

    I wasn't even aware we actually use floating platforms.
    All these years I was picturing these massive kilometers long structures that must be built to connect to the ocean floor and hold these rigs...
    Now I feel stupid. But also smarter. Which feels weird.

      Oh, deep water drilling is done in way too deep waters for that. Some deep water drilling is so deep that the rigs aren't even anchored to the bottom. They use dynamic positioning (thrusters on the hull) to maintain their position over the wellhead.

      I am Cuban, 57 years old, I live in USA since 1986, spent 23 years in the shipbuilding and oil industry, 7 them working in several oil facilities owned by BP at the north sea, I was member a maintenance crew of 17 guys, welders, fitters, pipe fitters, crane operator, electricians and helpers, I was a lead welder, many times we spent up to 60 days working on those oil platforms, north sea is a hell of cold environment, then back on dry land mostly here in North Dakota I was involved in the work of lying down oil pipelines and also here was where I had the ugliest drama bullshit with bitches in my entire life, the fucking rig pig queens.

We bring personnel and materials/equipment out to the rigs, and there are thousands of us boat across the world. If not for us the rigs wouldn’t be able to operate. We bring everything from people to fresh water, food to cement. It’s an entirely different side of the job.

    Nitpicking here: the pipe rams don't control the pressure. They simply cut the flow by crushing the pipe. Their effect is very permanent. Annulars can seal up the well and then unseal it later. The blind shear ram is there to allow the rig to move away from a bad situation. The drill string connects the rig to the well, and if there is need to move the rig away for any reason (a sudden hurricane changes direction and threatens the rig, or war breaks out and the rig is about to be invaded or attacked, or if the rig can't help but move away-if the dynamic positioning system fails, for example, the rig will start to drift off position and the drill string may break-leading to a spill-or the rig may sink as a consequence), the blind shear will sever that connection and the rig will be free. The Shear rams will only be operated after the rams seal the pipe below them, so as to avoid a bad spill.
    The order that they are used is: Annular-to close the flow/control pressure; Rams-to permanently close the flow if the annulars aren't enough; Shear Rams-to cut the pipe altogether if the whole thing goes tits up.

    I’d be interested to see how all the underwater stuff works… how it’s all installed and removed and how the underwater pipeline is built.

    It blows my mind how a rig sitting so high can drill in such a specific spot. Id imagine the shear forces on the drill/casing would be insanely high

  • @20centswortht91
    @20centswortht91 Рік тому +5

    When it comes to drilling in deep water ( or any ocean at any depth ) the very FIRST thing that happens is a very large diameter surface casing is put in place and as soon as possible riser pipe is attached to the BOP control structure which is then attached to the surface casing.... then control is established over the hole BEFORE any further drilling and subsequent casing running is undertaken... NO ONE in offshore drilling OR even land based drilling drills without a BOP in place... !!! NO ONE drills and sets many strings of casing 'before' putting on the BOP... its absolutely ridiculous and is a totally false understanding of drilling !!!

    That's a genius invention, for sure. Oil = money and where there's money to be made, there are genius inventions to go after it. I'm not knocking the oil industry as this applies to just about everything. I actually did know how these offshore rigs stayed in place but I didn't know about the subsea piplelines used to bring the oil to shore. I learn something new every day. Thanks for the video.

      You know the earth's crust (including below the oceans) is constantly moving, right? Tens of millions of years of land moving around puts things all over the place

      It's bullshit oil is not a fossil fuel its the 2nd most abundant liquid on earth other than water and it serves a purpose lubricates friction plates under the earth fucking around with it a fracking for gas and drilling for oil can cause so many so called natural disasters man made problems in my opinion.
