The Perfetti usage is another one in a long list of drafted and developed players who either have never been given a chance to show what they can do or were misused and chased out of town. As much as Bones has had an effect, Chevy must be involved in player decisions as well . Our D sucks other than the 44 & 2 pairing, but we let Kovacevic go on waivers ( he played 62 games and was +11 this year) Chisholm put on waivers after a 1 game try out ? and he plays 31 games for the Wild. Now we have the Perfetti issue. I will be shocked if he doesn't demand a trade this summer. I get he is an RFA but his agent will try.
From Murat Ates article in The Athletic - 'Bowness has said many times that he coaches by feel, trusting his gut, and that he’s happier to lose coaching his way than changing his approach to the game.' This tells you why this team has had the same problems all year - add some stubborness, arrogance, confirmation bias and Dunning-Kruger effect and you have a perfect cocktail for a coach that doesnt fit in today's game. Looking back when did this team play its best was when they had injuries - I have to think the reason why is it took Bowness out of the equation he had no choice but to play optimum lineups and get out of the way. The Perfetti and Ehlers situations are an utter disasters - you have destroyed the relationship you had with on of your young key pieces you almost have to trade him at this point because he more than likely is going to walk first chance he gets. I know people don't like Trevor Zegras but I am making that call and kicking the tires. The Ehlers situiation is just as bad you have a coach that has tried to take a player and coach out everything that makes him a succesful - a good coach takes the strengths and maximizes what they can do, not adapt your roster to your system. All of Bowness's decisions seem to be based on how to fit players in his system and therories of how hockey was played 30 years ago. You have to take the approach Dallas has the last couple of years - you have a lot of good veteran players you need to incorporate the prosepects into the lineup. I would like to see a rookie on the majority of lines next year paired with two veterans to mentor them. The other thing to consider is Rutger McGroarty, do you think looking at this dysfunctional situation he may want to reconsider playing here. The forwards that are on this team should not be blocking he from having a role next year. Coaching staff needs to be cleared out - it is a situation where you need a new methodology and messge, promoting anyone from within is the same message with a different voice.
The coaching with your gut over every available data point in 2024 is ridiculous. And I couldn’t agree more. Had someone reach out to me this weekend “what’s it say as a coach, when you have the talent Perfetti has, and you’re running away from coaching it”. Destroying those relationships for THIS result is absolutely inexcusable. Couldn’t agree more on the Ehlers thing. By far the biggest burnt prime in 2.0 history because they don’t understand and respect his skill set. It’s just so frustrating. The Dallas model is exactly what I’d like to see. It’s their only way to crack this window back potentially open a couple years down the line. Because if we are being honest, the window on the vets is closed. Go young and shoot for upside
Pionk playing more than Morrissey is coaching malpractice. The whole Stanley experience over the last few years is mind boggling. Trading for Miller to only play 2 games in the reg season and none in the playoffs, it just goes on and on
Teams across the league, even the good ones give their young stars the leash to learn and play. Wyatt Johnston, Logan Stankoven in Dallas are two that come to mind immediately. Play your young guys, because there is a chance they do something special. playing some ahl plug doesnt move the needle. first time listener here, enjoyed the commentary. lot of ideas I've been yelling at my TV a lot this season and seasons past.
Thanks for checking us out Kevin and appreciate you bringing your thoughts here! That’s exactly it, you have to give players rope to learn and grow. In Winnipeg, you get consistent stops and starts. For an org that prides itself on “draft and development”, it sure feels like miss on the whole development and play portion.
Great episode guys! Holloway isn't the only one, by the way.. Jarvis and Lundell both playing in the bottom 6 in the playoffs (Lundell has been moved up since the Bennett injury)
The Scheifele and Nino comments are pre-emptive knowing Bones will trash the team once the series is done and now the players are out in front of it. Very telling that they don't believe in the coaching

Oh the orgs history of identifying defenceman is a lengthy, lengthy problem.
And Perfetti’s agency is definitely going to try after all this
Great job fellas.
A bonus that your boss essentially prevented you from getting.
Looking forward to the Arniel years!
Thank you!
Yup, I’d be irate.
It shall be starting within a week

The Rutger thing is also a great point. How does this org actually look at that player and this roster and say sorry, no room next year

Thanks Adam!
The whole leagues littered with young guys doing it. But it’s a holy sin in Winnipeg. So frustrating

Oh locker room clean up day it seems like the Players will be striking back if that was any indication
The players have lost respect for the coach. And i dont blame them. No one wants to play for someone they dont respect
It became very obvious seeing Nino and Scheif’s comments
Frauds
