I am 3 weeks post surgery tomorrow first time rt rotator cuff. I prepared by getting Burton up shirts a couple of sizes larger both short sleeve and long sleeve. I also use a tank top as a 1st layer instead of a bra and I step into it and pull it up. In the shower I use condiment bottles for my soap easy to hold and squeeze. I was told I could move my surgery arm from hand to elbow as long as shoulder stayed still. (Check with your Dr) pillows make sleeping easier to prop what needs support you or your arm. I found sleeping on my side with a pillow behind my elbow and under my hand so the arm doesn't shift. This helped to prevent the pain on the back of my shoulder blade area.for me sleeping in the recliner or sleeping with pillows propped up behind me did not help. I clipped a caribeaner to one of my plastic clips to help with holding keys and sling makes a great pocket for my phone. There was a 10 inch extra Velcro strap I did not know what it was for so I use it to help hold my hand in so my arm doesn't move forward in sling. I figured that out after the 4th day. I would definitely use that strap to hold your hand in while your hand is numb. I hope this helps anyone else getting ready for shoulder surgery
@@kathybrown8196 stay ahead on pain meds the first few days. Dr told me when I started to feel my arm again to start the meds I should have started when I felt my fingers. The following day was a very sore day. Took all day to catch up, then I was fine. I have a higher pain tolerance so the oxy I only took at night and then eliminated after day 10.

12 days post op labrum repair. This wedge is just what I need! Sleeping has been a nightmare. Thank you for putting this together. I wish you continued wellness.
On my second week after rotator cuff surgery 8/7/2023 and I can totally agree! Sleep is the most difficult part for me. How did did your recovery go? Hope all went well without a hitch 👍🏽
Here are my tips, not in any particular order. I had my right shoulder done 4 years ago and my left 2 weeks ago. Please ignore any typos since I am a terrible proof reader. 1. Get a second opinion. My injuries were worse this time and a general orthopod recommended anatomical replacement. I went to a shoulder specialist who noted that my joint was fine but had bone spurs and no space between the joint and the collar bone. I also had a snapping bicep tendon, a large rotator cuff tear and separation of the supraspinatis. I chose surgeon #2 and got the repair rather than the replacement. 2. If there is time, prepare as many meals for the freezer as you can. Store the food in containers that you can move around with your good hand. I made ham bone soup, chicken noodle soup, beef stew, two kinds of fish stew, 7 pounds of meatloaf, tamales, spaghetti, and many other dishes. If you can’t cook ahead, have friends, family or your church or social group bring meals to you. . 3. Buy or rent a recliner with electric controls on the non-operated side. This will support your shoulder as you heal. I didn’t have a recliner with my first shoulder surgery and it has made all the difference this time. 4. Get help with dressing. It us very difficult to dress and put on the sling by yourself, especially at first. 5. Get help with laundry. I don’t know about you but I can’t fold clothes with only one hand. Taking this further, ignore all housework or get someone else to do it as long as you are in a sling. 6. Find someone to help you with sponge bathing and to wash your hair until your wound closes. You can get in the shower if you cover the dressing with Saran Wrap, secured with masking or paper tape. But, I could only clean myself this way from the waist down. You’ll need help washing your back and under the non-operated arm. Keep the dressing totally dry and if it does get wet, change it immediately to avoid infection. 7. Stay ahead of the pain. Take your medication. I am in my third week now and would say that I only have severe soreness, unlike the unbearable pain that I had the first two weeks. Also take a stool softener at maximum dose but don’t expect “results” for a few days. Then have a strong assistant and a plunger handy, if you catch my drift. 8. Get an ice water circulator that runs the water through a pad that covers the entire shoulder and high on your arm. These are available at any medical supply store as well as on Amazon. Worth every Penny that you spend. Instead of putting ice in the reservoir, use frozen bottles of water- these last much longer than ice cubes and provide about 3.5 hours of relief. 9. Start PT as soon as possible and do all the work. 10. Find exercise that you can do without involving your shoulder. I started long walks with my dog at the 3-day mark. 11. Don’t plan to do anything for anybody until you’re out of the sling. Even when you feel better and are off the pain meds, you cannot drive. Good luck to you! Know that the two week mark is a turning point for pain, independence and exercise. You will get through this! My right arm is now perfect and I expect the left will be as well, in about 6 months.
Thank you for the tips, I’ve been stressing over how I would deal with my upcoming rotator cuff surgery. These tips will definitely make things easier. Good luck with the balance of your recovery.
I am 3 weeks in on my left rotator cuff/bicep surgery. Had my right done 2 years ago. Things I’ve learned: buy a recliner to sleep, I tried the slanted pillow but a recliner is the best. Use Press n Seal to protect your wounds/bandages to prevent them getting wet. I also bought cheap Walmart shirts last time and found a seamstress who added a strip of snaps - had new shirts made this time around. Put shampoo, conditioner and body wash in dollar store picnic ketchup and mustard squeeze bottles. If you take meds, buy a two week pill container and fill, refill as needed. Do not get lazy about icing your shoulder!! Make sure to flex fingers and wrists lightly to avoid elbow freeze. Loose clothes is a must - now is not the time to look cute. Buy a bathwrap, not bathrobe. Slip on shoes. Last tip: stay ahead of the pain - start your pain meds right after getting home from the hospital.
Great idea's. How did you put on a bra? Unfortunately I am large up top and its not an option to go without (at least in public). Also, any suggestions for how to do your hair? Just a way to put it up and out of the way.
I pulled a loose sports bra from my feet up so I could get my hand through the loop without raising my arm. When I had help, my husband could assist me with a regular bra by fastening it and helping make sure it wasn’t twisted. Good luck!
I will have shoulder surgery in two weeks. I just bought the exactly the same wedge pillow. Do need to put another pillow on it? I tried, feel need another pillow on it . Second question, these 6 weeks in the sling, except sleeping and sitting, are you able to do anything? Boring, watching TV or cell phone all day?
I even slept in my sling! But during that time you’ll not do a lot of stuff. You’ll be able to take walks, do computer work (one-handed), and most things that are not high energy. I used pillows with my wedge for sure! Just try to make it as comfortable as possible for you! All the best!

I'm six and a half weeks in just got my sling taking off yesterday and yes sleep is definitely annoying all I'm doing right now is micro moves prescribed on my doctor.
Had rotator cuff surgery one week ago. Can't thank you enough for the foam wedge pillow tip. Sleeping has been really good and I don't know how I would've got through without it. Went for the shower gel spongy trick thing too. Brilliant, just brilliant. Thanks again
@@smallstye hi small style, yes I lay on the foam wedge also which helps greatly with sleeping. I have one pillow at the top of the wedge for my head and then two pillows off to the side to support the arm. Good luck with the surgery tomorrow.
Your videos were so helpful. I think I followed every tip you shared. I had been assuming rotator cuff shoulder would be the same as shoulder replacement. Wanted to let everyone know that replacement is much, much easier than rotator cuff repair. My rotator cuff was beyond repair so I got ‘reverse shoulder replacement’ (the socket is put into the place where the ball was and the ball into the socket’s old place). Your deltoid muscle takes over the function of the rotator cuff. Your love videos were the most helpful of any on the internet … so, thanks so much!
Thank you Darica - great tips and advice. I have surgery scheduled in 4 weeks and this is the kind of practical prep video I've been searching for! Hope you are fully recovered now :)
I'm a 48 year old male from Texas. 6'0" tall and 330 lbs. Its's June 25th, 2022 now. I had Achilles Tendon reattachment surgery in February and left rotator cuff and tendon reinforcement surgery on the 23rd (2 days ago). I am so glad I stumbled onto your video; was watching PT videos to see what to expect Monday morning (2 days from now). Number 1: YOU ARE CUTE AS A BUTTON!!! I don't use the word cute often, but it applies to you...for sure! Number 2: Thank you for the wedge idea. I have a Sleep Doctor wedge (the widest one they sell) from the Achilles surgery and never thought of using it for the shoulder recovery. Brilliant! Number 3: The tee shirt idea should win some kind of award! I love problem solvers and you, ma'am, nailed it! I cut a 3X tee shirt 6 inches from the bottom, and followed a straight line up/through the arm pit; leaving the shoulder untouched. It works, but it leaves a gaping hole for the pillow straps to constantly rub on my rib cage area. YOUR idea, however, allows access to incision points, like the hood of a truck; and eliminates the rubbing that my idea has. So.... you win the internet for a day!! 😘 🌟🌟🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🌟🌟 Number 3: your editing skills are fantastic and made this video easy to watch. Lastly, I admire your sincerity. It shows that you truly are interested in helping people and not just looking for likes on UA-cam. I wish you success in everything you do (you deserve it!) and thank you for making this video! Ps, I would add that the OSSUR cold therapy system has absolutely saved my life with these 2 surgeries. You have to check it out. There are pads for shoulders, backs, legs, etc. Pricey, but soooooo worth the price!
I wanted to share with you that your video not only helped but it also has a sweet memory for me to a wonderful sweet Nurse assistant Amanda who was killed last May in the Natalie Bldg shooting in Tulsa. We talked about how to best prepare for my rotator cuff repair and I found your video very helpful. So thank you for these tips as I once again need to go back in for another repair and have her memory with me 😊
Oh my goodness. I’m so sorry for the loss of a caregiver who made a big impact in your life. I’m glad my video was helpful and I’m wishing you all the best as you go through another repair and recovery.
Thanks Darcia, I’m one week away from total shoulder replacement surgery, incorporating donor tissue grafts, I face months of immobilisation, these tips will really help me, in preparation I have become totally left handed, having lost all use of my right arm way back in August 2022… I feel like I’m in a good place to deal with my recovery, films like yours are truly helping un fellow sufferers. God bless. @Grandpa-Chris over in London.
Darica, Thank you so much for the heads up.I’m having my second surgery and I pray that it goes as well as my first my first was not that bad, but this is now going to be a full rotator cuff. repair. I’m so glad that you’re feeling well and thank you so much for your time and tips. 👏👏👏👏❤️
Thank you so much for these tips! The t-shirts have been amazing. I did buy inexpensive men's t-shirts (2 sizes up) and a friend sewed the velcro for me. What a fabulous and pain-avoiding idea! Pumps for all items in shower and on my vanity and the have been so helpful.
You have no idea how much I appreciate you,i had three different repairs in my shoulder and the pain is almost unbearable, your tips are very helpful thank you immensely, have a blessed day 😊🌹🌹🌹💖
Getting ready for rotator cuff surgery in 3 weeks. I looked at those online shirts yesterday, and thought, there’s gotta be a better way. Thanks for all the tips.
Thank you so much!! Your shoulder recovery posts are exactly what I’ve been looking for. After ACL surgery I regretted not doing my homework- so, this time around, I am preparing for rotator cuff surgery in 38 hours😳. Your post surgery “personal care” tips are fabulous and I will engage myself pleasantly in post-op care! Now that I’ve found you, I will take in all that you’ve posted as it relates to shoulder surgery, post-op care, correct use of my arm fir maximizing ROM and finally, strengthening! 🥳
Your loofa/poof on the pump of the soap is a great idea. Personally I just bought a couple of pull on pants and button down shirts with patch pockets so nobody could tell I wasn't wearing a bra. I found it was easier to do the buttons than a pullover regardless of the size
I went to the Salvation Army store and bought 3 button down short sleeve shirts before my surgery. What a godsend. They've got me through 2 surgeries and my brother had one.
I am having a shoulder replacement in a few weeks. I was already thinking about making bowls of food and freezing them. The showering tips and velcro trick I hadn't yet considered. Thank you.
Thank you so much! This is exactly the kind of information that I wanted to find. I'm having surgery in a month, and I want to be prepared for these types of things. I hope that I find several more videos like this with everyone's personal struggles with unforeseen issues during recovery.
Hi, thank you for the tips and I hope that you've made a full recovery. We're you sent home with a cryo machine after surgery. I've heard it helps a lot. Also I heard that nerve block during surgery gives a great advantage for recovery. Thank you again for the tips.
Thanks much. Hope you have fully healed at this point. My surgery is this coming Wednesday. I’ve been trying to think of everything I need to do to prep. This really helps. Much appreciated.
Ok 1 week post surgery today. Doing good. Past all the pain medication. Still icing several times day. The surgeon is happy with where things are, I go back next week to get stiches out and then on week 3 start PT. Dissapointed I’m going to miss out on most of the summer, but looking forward to getting past this. Thanks again your videos were most helpful in getting to this point!
Glad you’re doing well so far! I agree that ice is so helpful. I remember using ice for at least a month post-op, though I started using it less and less as time progressed.
OMG Thank you! Almost 3 weeks ago I was in a car accident (7 broken ribs, broken shoulder, broken humerus, broken elbow, broken wrist, and broken thumb) and I live way up by Yosemite National Park. Luckily I live with two friends who help me with the really difficult things, like tying my shoes, and opening anything I can't chew through. I don't have my wedge pillow yet but I will get one in a few days when I go down to see my orthopedist. Sleeping has been one of the hardest things, even with a big pile of pile of various bed pillows. The velcro shirt idea is probably my favorite but the shower wash & pompom made me groan for not having thought of it myself. Thanks again for posting this video.
I can’t thank you enough for sharing this video. The bed wedge pillow is such a game changer. After trying different sleeping methods (using several pillows in bed, using recliner, etc) which aggravates the shoulder pain in the morning when I wake up, the wedge pillow has no pain at all! God bless and thanks again!
My daughter made me a shoulder strap cover out of Shannon Cuddle fabric because anything rough or scratchy is so irritating to me right now. She made it wide so I can easily get it on and off by myself when it needs washing. It is a little hot for summertime but would be perfect for winter.
Thank you for the link to the wedge. I just ordered one. I go in for repair of a complete tear on 10/22/20. I live alone, but my sister is going to stay with me for a few nights, then take me to her house after I recover a little more. My son's only about a half mile away, so will stop by to check on me after work every day. I have a friend who will check on me, but she's a single mom, so has her own things to worry about. Even my ex-wife has offered to help. My main concerns are showering, dressing and cooking. I'm guessing that some of the girls I work with will feed me. They take good care of me at work already! LOL!
Glad that link worked! I would advise you to just move slow and easy. It’s going to be hard to hurt yourself if you do that. No fast movements getting out of bed, or out of a chair, etc. I’m glad you have so many people to help you! Best wishes for a complete recovery!
I had my shoulder replacement last November and just had rotator cuff repair for massive tear. The replacement was a piece of cake compared to this rotator cuff!
Great tips! I have had surgery on both shoulders (separately) and can relate to many of the things you have mentioned. I wish I had heard the shirt idea! I have a few additional tips to share: 1-Cryotherapy machine - these things are amazing! A friend loaned me one for my first surgery and I promptly bought my own. They essentially are a cooler that pumps icy water through a cuff that you place on the injury (shoulder, knee, etc.). They are much more effective than regular ice packs and was a life saver. I do recommend using block ice if possible to keep it cold longest. 2-practice use of non-dominant hand before surgery (if possible) - it is surprising how useless we often are with the non-dominant hand. If time allows, I recommend using the few weeks before surgery to practice tasks like brushing your teeth, or wiping your bum (sorry, for the sensitive topic), or even changing your computer mouse (I prefer the non-dominant hand now). Not always possible, but really helped me. Thanks for sharing your experiences and good luck with your recovery.
The cryotherapy is excellent! I share about that on my medications video, but it would be worth mentioning in all of my videos. That was one of the best things to get me through! Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much for preparing this video. I'm going to be helping my 77 year old mom after her right shoulder surgery next week. I trying to think of every accommodation for her to help limit her pain and help in her healing. I will be making a few of the velcro shirts for her as you suggested and have a blanket in mind for her to use as a coat cape (she's a superhero to me so it's about time she get a cape!) I also bought a left handled bidet for her toilet because I feel that will be the most hygienic way to ensure she's able to keep comfortable and clean. I'm so worried about her being in pain and praying the surgery will be the answer to her months long agonizing pain. Thank you again for providing these helpful idea. Happy healing!
She is fortunate to have you. Best wishes to her as she heals. You may want to watch my Medications video. I talk about the ice machine (cryotherapy) that was SO helpful with pain control.
@@DarciaDarcy I am the fortunate one. 😌 Thank you! I will watch that video as well. Great video . I'm 1 week post op for slap/ bicep tendonesis. Recliner has been a Godsend. Loofah on a stick, pump soap bottle, ice machine/ packs and meds have made my days easier.
I’m on my second shoulder repair too. What saved me was a cold therapy machine. It works wonders. I’m 2 weeks today and feel so much better this time around.
OMG YES! The ice machine was my savior for both of my surgeries. I can’t say enough amazing things about it. I’m glad to hear I wasn’t the only one. I’m glad you’re already feeling better. Best of luck to you as you recover fully. Thank you for watching my video and for the comment.
@@sharonlotto3765 I was told 15 minutes max to avoid skin damage because the pads are so cold. When I was in physicial therapy I was told 15 on/15 off, and never sleep with either a cold or a heat pack to avoid frost bite or burns. Read the directions carefully or call the number on the machine to ask any questions. I am really looking forward to using my cold therapy machine!!
I think it could depend on the brand. Mine has a dial you adjust the cold settings. I also placed a pillowcase between me and the pad to protect against frostbite. Doing those things, I would leave it on for hours at a time...usually until the ice had melted.
Thanks for the tips. I just found out today that I've got to have rotator cuff surgery. Mine is completely torn & the ligament has retracted quite a bit so I know it's going to be painful and I'm not looking forward to it. I hadn't even thought about the fact that it's in my right shoulder which is my dominant arm/hand so it's going to be tough. My brother told me to start doing things with my left arm/hand so that I'll get used to using it instead of my right arm/hand. I'm worried about sleeping because I'm a side sleeper and I know I won't be able to sleep on my side for a while. I've logged onto Amazon today to look for post-operative shirts and you're right - they're crazy expensive so I'm going to do what you did and buy my own t-shirts to alter. Thanks again. I see that you posted this over a year ago so I hope you've recovered well.
1) I recommend a bra that closes in the front. 2) I bought a cheap fishnet shoulder sling for showering. 3)Aerosol spray deodorant is a must. 4) Request your pharmacy give you childless pill caps. They’re easy to open with one hand. 5) Slip on shoes and a shoehorn. 6) Elastic waist pants. 7) Water pick flosser. I’ve had 3 rotator cuff surgeries. It’s excruciatingly painful. Each time I slept in a recliner for a couple months.

@@DarciaDarcy Thanks! Great help from your videos.
Show us how to use the wedge pillow please !
Yes! How do we use the pillow?! I’m having rotator cuff tear repair in 2 weeks and scared!
THANK YOU From My Heart!! 💖💖I'm a month away from ROTATOR CUFF Surgery ...full thickness tearing!! I am seeing about getting Help because Family is far away!! In my 60's and very worried!!
YOU just gave me the BEST TIPS!! I've had so much pain etc..and was overwhelmed!!
YOUR TIPS WILL CERTAINLY HELP ME!! ✨GOD Bless You and I Pray you're RECOVERED!! 😀🙏💖🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Mrs bealynnn I hope you've recovered from your shoulder surgery I just had mind last month the 27th going into my 3rd week of recovery 😢😮slow but getting there sleeping on your back not happening recliner is your best friend word of advice from other people God 🙏🏾 bless you 🙏🏾
I’m 7 weeks post op and sleep is still terrible! The pain in my arm is real! Praying it will get better soon. Thank you for all your tips!
I’m so sorry to hear that. I’d give yourself patience. Healing from shoulder surgery takes a LOT of time.
@@DarciaDarcy thank you, I know I have a patience issues when it comes to myself. Too use to doing everything on my own. Have to still use my left arm to put the car in R and D as I have no reach at all in my Right arm.
I remember driving like that too. Keep going gentle. It will pay off to not rush healing. Also, thank you for watching and commenting. Best wishes to you on your healing.
Where you taking the pain meds prescribed
I'm six and a half weeks in just got my sling taking off yesterday and yes sleep is definitely annoying all I'm doing right now is micro moves prescribed on my doctor.
Had rotator cuff surgery one week ago.
Can't thank you enough for the foam wedge pillow tip. Sleeping has been really good and I don't know how I would've got through without it.
Went for the shower gel spongy trick thing too. Brilliant, just brilliant. Thanks again
I’m so glad this was helpful for you. Best wishes on your recovery!
How are you sleeping with it... do you lay on it or prop your arm on it, She never said what to do once you buy it
Hi! I laid on it. Sorry for not being clear!
@@DarciaDarcy Thank You I'm a little nervous for my surgery is tomorrow 12-06-22
Thank you for being so kind. I hope you are healing well.
Thank you Darica - great tips and advice. I have surgery scheduled in 4 weeks and this is the kind of practical prep video I've been searching for! Hope you are fully recovered now :)
I'VE BEEN DOING P.T. SINCE OCT & NEVER HAD TO HAVE MY SHOULDER BARE THEY CAN MASSAGE OVER YOUR YOUR CLOTHING. Great tips
I’m day 4 post surgery. Thank you so much for these tips…especially regarding showering!!!
You’re welcome! Best wishes as you recover!
Number 3: your editing skills are fantastic and made this video easy to watch.
Lastly, I admire your sincerity. It shows that you truly are interested in helping people and not just looking for likes on UA-cam.
I wish you success in everything you do (you deserve it!) and thank you for making this video!
Ps,
I would add that the OSSUR cold therapy system has absolutely saved my life with these 2 surgeries. You have to check it out. There are pads for shoulders, backs, legs, etc. Pricey, but soooooo worth the price!
Thank you!
Having rotator cuff surgery in October and these tips are so helpful! Thank you for sharing
You’re welcome! Best wishes on surgery and recovery!
So helpful, thank you! I am 10 days post-op and life is hard with one hand!
I bought tube tops & 1 sleeve shirts from Amazon.
So Amazon sells 1 sleeve tops for $16 each & 3-4 tube tops for $25. Well worth it. I dress from the bottom up. I’m @ 8 weeks post op.
Same.
Great idea!
@@DarciaDarcy Thank you Darcia that's so very kind, I appreciate it 😊
Thanks so much,Darcia. I'm facing shoulder surgery 9/6..Just rying to get prepared...
God bless.

Darica,
Thank you so much for the heads up.I’m having my second surgery and I pray that it goes as well as my first my first was not that bad, but this is now going to be a full rotator cuff.

Hi how are you and how is your shoulder after surgery
Ugh, struggling through this, one week has passed. Thank you for this!
Thank you so very much, it is very helpful 🙏🏾💯🥰
Oh thank you! All the best to you!
loving your attitude and advice. thank you
Thank you so much.
Well done...you kept the sling on during your demo..AWESOME
Thank you! 😁
Thank you I would have never thought of the T-shirt idea or the pillow wedge. I bought the shirts today and just ordered the pillow wedge.
I love to hear that! I’m so glad!
Glue gun if you can't sew
You have no idea how much I appreciate you,i had three different repairs in my shoulder and the pain is almost unbearable, your tips are very helpful thank you immensely, have a blessed day 😊🌹🌹🌹💖
How amazing are you to share all your amazing advice! Thank you so much! I am going to use them.
You’re welcome!
Thank you so much for the tshirt idea and that pillow. Very very helpful
Hi 7:40 thanks for some good tips I am about to have shoulder cuff surgery In 4 weeks. You are a blessing.
Thank you so much, and best wishes to you too.
You are such a wonderful patient. I am very proud of you. Sincerely, congratulations
I went to a thrift shop and purchased extra large T-shirts. Buttons shirts were suggested, but the over-sized were easier. I use them as pajamas now.
Your loofa/poof on the pump of the soap is a great idea. Personally I just bought a couple of pull on pants and button down shirts with patch pockets so nobody could tell I wasn't wearing a bra. I found it was easier to do the buttons than a pullover regardless of the size
Pockets in the shirts is a great tip!
Thank you.
I just had shoulder surgery 3 days ago and I was already watching videos, buying what I needed and so forth. Great information!
Thank you! Best to you as you heal!
I'm day 1 post-op for right shoulder repair and i love my wedge pillow, I actually slept in my bed and not the recliner couch,
Thank you! I’m so nervous about my upcoming complete shoulder replacement, I appreciate all these tips.
You’re welcome. Best wishes on surgery and recovery!
Very helpful. I'm going to get a wedge pillow for my wife. Tx for your generous spirit.
That is really encouraging to me. Thanks for the nice comment. And I hope your wife loves the wedge pillow as much as I did!
Love your vibe! I had shoulder surgery a few months ago and still recovering but feeling great. I hope you're all healed up!
How are you doing now...🤗🙇♀️🥰
I'm almost 2months in recovery with right roto cuff surgery...
Thank you so much! This is exactly the kind of information that I wanted to find. I'm having surgery in a month, and I want to be prepared for these types of things. I hope that I find several more videos like this with everyone's personal struggles with unforeseen issues during recovery.
You are so welcome! I’m glad it was helpful!
Hi, thank you for the tips and I hope that you've made a full recovery. We're you sent home with a cryo machine after surgery. I've heard it helps a lot. Also I heard that nerve block during surgery gives a great advantage for recovery. Thank you again for the tips.
Yes, I was sent home with the ice machine and I also had a nerve block. Highly recommend both!
@@DarciaDarcyI had left shoulder done. And in so much pain .they couldn't do a block .in pain
@sandyhughes2408 I’m sorry to hear that. I pray that you feel better and heal well.
Thanks much. Hope you have fully healed at this point. My surgery is this coming Wednesday. I’ve been trying to think of everything I need to do to prep. This really helps. Much appreciated.
Best wishes on a successful surgery and recovery!
@@DarciaDarcy Thank you very much! Hoping for a good outcome. Much appreciate your videos - great info to help me plan.
This has been extremely helpful in preparing for my surgery. Thank you!
Hearing that you had to get the same shoulder done twice helped my mental attitude. Thanks for the tips.
You’re welcome! I’m glad that you were encouraged.
Wow! That’s so great to hear! Getting a good nights sleep is so important. ☺️ Best wishes to you as you heal!
Where is the link for the wedge pillow
Hi MJ, it’s in the description. If you’re watching on a smartphone you may have to expand the section so you can see.
Thank you mame. Having my left shoulder done in a month. Your tips are so helpful.
You’re very welcome. Best wishes to you on a speedy recovery.
Fabulous shirt idea!
Thanks! It’s pretty easy too! Hope it works for you if you need that.
Wonderful. I am having surgery in 3 weeks. Thank you for putting my mind a little more at ease
I’m so glad. Best wishes as you recover!
GREAT GREATEST VIDEO DARCY THANKS SO MUTCH FOR SHARING YOUR SHOULDER SURGERY TIPS .
You’re welcome!
My daughter made me a shoulder strap cover out of Shannon Cuddle fabric because anything rough or scratchy is so irritating to me right now. She made it wide so I can easily get it on and off by myself when it needs washing. It is a little hot for summertime but would be perfect for winter.
going through rotator cuff recovery. thanks for these tips. they helped me
Thank you for the comment! Best wishes as you recover!
Thank you for the good information. I’m having a total shoulder replacement in nov. so Im trying to get it together
Best wishes to you! I hope you have a successful surgery and recovery. Thank you for watching and for your comment!
I had my shoulder replacement last November and just had rotator cuff repair for massive tear. The replacement was a piece of cake compared to this rotator cuff!
Oh dear. That’s what I seem to always hear. I hope you heal quickly.
Your video is SO helpful. I haven't had my surgery yet but you answered so many of my questions. Thank you!
I’m so glad. Best wishes as you have surgery and recovery.
Great tips! I have had surgery on both shoulders (separately) and can relate to many of the things you have mentioned. I wish I had heard the shirt idea!
I have a few additional tips to share:
1-Cryotherapy machine - these things are amazing!
I just found your video, thanks for the info!
You’re welcome!
She's very reluctant to take pain meds but this last week or so before her scheduled surgery she is in a tremendous amount of pain & has taken 1 or 2 pills. I trust part of her post-surgery recovery will include this device to help with inflammation & lessen pain.
Many thanks again for sharing your experience and providing some helpful hints for those who may soon be on this journey as well.

What a blessing!
How long should I have the ice machine on each time? Thanks!
@@DarciaDarcy that's nice to know! I will check the settings and use something between the pads and my shoulder. Thank you!

Tshirt idea is GENIUS!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!
You’re welcome!
Thank you so much. 3 days till shoulder surgery. Helpful!
Best wishes for an excellent recovery. I’m glad this video was helpful!
Fantastic help! I'm having Rotator cuff repair on Friday and should have seen this last week. Buying that pillow right now!
Best wishes for surgery tomorrow! I hope you love that wedge pillow as much as I did!
Thanks for the tips my 15 year old is having her Labrum repaired next week and I had no clue what to do for clothing
Thank you. I hope your daughter has great results and recovery!
I love the childless pull caps idea! And so sorry to hear you’ve gone through this 3 times. I hope you’re well now.
Thank you so much for this...it was very type of information I was needing
I’m so glad. Thank you for watching and for the positive comment!

I am one week post op, and I will try the pump bottles, pillow, and t-shirts. I may try to get some t-shirt like dresses because it is hot here and I like the loose fit of a dress. Thank you so much!
