The real one was a breechloading gun, so it was no big deal. Open the breech, take the empty casing out, put a new shell in, close the breech and fire.
it shouldn't be hard to hit a piece of cardboard that size. End of the day, its essentially a bench mounted 36cal pistol. Dunno if that ones smoothbore, or rifled as the originals were, but I suspect the inconsistences are down to sighting since hes just eyeing down the barrel. A smoothbore barrel would also explain it. A bench rested 36cal rifled pistol would have all those rounds through the dot easily at that range. I own and regularly fire a 69cal Ardessa replica of a Napoleonic era field cannon (search for Napoleon III .69 if you want to see others using one), smoothbore of course, at 25 meters (he looks like hes firing about 10-15m) and get a 4-6inch grouping with relative ease.
It looks Like a secondary battery off of a French/Italian light cruiser.. the preformance and looks along with the quality of the gun looks very impressive, not to mention the reliability.. Not a single misfire was seen. Very nice job of the construction of your model.
@Skinny Jeeves could be true. I find it ironic that the name of his website is Black powder cannons but there are none black powder connons on his website shame :(
The recoil is causing your board to jump and when you pick up the board to reload it goes back down at a different spot so accuracy won’t be that great.
Not to sound like a smartass but ships move to different spots per shot as well. Even if they're at a dead stop, the flow of water underneath will put it slightly off the same spot it was at moments before.
@@Seven_Leaf yea they sure do. I don’t even know if he was even making adjustments after watching the video again he was probably just having fun shooting.
Amazing piece of engineering. But I'm more impressed by how you keep manage to zero in on your target, despite having to lift the whole gun up on end to reload between shots!
Cool. Just happened across this channel. I once built a small cannon out of brass to shoot .177 BBs. It recoiled on it's trunnions with a spring. At first I used lady finger fire crackers for propellent. I found if I loaded two, one could shoot out the other lighting it's fuse. I'd get a mini air burst about 5 to 6 metres away. Then I found black powder. It could put a BB through 3/4 inch boards. Wish I kept it. Now I don't have a lathe.
Now all you need to do is design and build one that is a breechloader that fires a .38 Special and is hammer fired with a lanyard just like a real naval gun of the period. The recoil system on this is nice.
Then he would have to sell them as firearms and go through an FFL to sell them legally. As black powder cannons they are exempt. You can order a black powder pistol or rifle and have it shipped to your door, but not a center fire.
