Trista Jeanveau they are not called Dutch braids and I hate when ppl say that because I understand that black people don’t own a style but when you call it something else I take it to offense so I would love it if you don’t say Dutch braids please and thank you 😊

Can I just say, you look completely normal, natural, and acceptable in this video and there's absolutely no reason to apologise for your appearance. In fact, as a mother to a little girl myself, I'm trying to be very conscious of the way I talk about myself. My own mum always talked herself down for as long as I can remember and it shaped the way I saw myself and my own worth in a negative way. We are more than our appearance, our weight, or whatever else we as women often worry about 💛

@Alexandra these braids aren't 1) tight enough or 2) worn for days on end like the braids that damage the skin. They get taken out for the bath at the end of the day. Having fine hair myself, and my daughter also having fine hair with tender head, my daughter can sit well with these braids. No complaints, no scalp itching... My mother would pull my hair to the point of making me cry, and my scalp would itch a few hours into wearing the styles she would do for me. This braid here has the wax and is a reverse Dutch braid, which in combination can give that smooth definition without being painfully tight.

Absolutely great tutorial. Thank you so much for showing it slowly over and over again while explaining. I think the people that are saying it looks complicated or that they can never do it. I felt the same way but you actually have to just start practicing. You can watch all the videos you want but without actually practicing you won't ever get it. This video is one of the best I've seen at showing how it's done.

Thank you SO much!!!! I have never known how to dutch braid. Or so i thought. I thought I only knew how to french braid and not very well lol. Until one day I was finally able to braid my own hair. I was so proud of myself. Well come to find out my cousin who is extremely good at all kinds of braids informed me that thus whole time that I've been braiding my own hair that I've actually been doing dutch braids on myself lol. Again not very well though lol. And i dont understand how I managed to do it lol. But I've wanted to be able to do all kinds of braids on anyone including myself since i was in elementary school. Unfortunately though I just didnt understand how to do dutch braids no matter who tried to give me tips and tried to help me I just could not understand it. However after watching this tutorial I FIRMLY believe that I can do it now. I just gotta get a way to practice it lol.

Beginner here! When you grab the hair to put in are you picking up to the half, up to where the braid is? I feel like I’m leaving a section of hair under the braid.

    Doesn’t the tightness cause headaches?

I'm doing this braid somehow without all the complicated tutorial, lol. Of course just learning how to do this with less amount of hair.

No need for apologies, Beth. You’re still as beautiful as ever. 😊 Sophie is, absolutely, adorable! If, her and Bailey are anything like my daughter, at that age, I bet they get into all kinds of “adorable trouble” 😉.....Tfs, Beth!

Everyone is so annoyed that she didn’t call them cornrows.... let’s just accept that they are called different things in different cultures and it doesn’t really matter if you call them a different thing to someone else that you will never meet or have to talk to about braids / cornrows

I am going to try this as soon as I'm done writing this comment. I understood what she was doing and the detail.
What amazed me is that I have 3 daughters and 3 granddaughters and all of them would literally try to take off when they saw me collecting the equipment to do their hair..... And I can remember doing my oldest daughter's hair in an amazing updo for her senor prom- she told me everyóne said she had the best hairstyle and I don't know if she said that to make me feel good or if it really was the best.-I like to think the latter. I felt that I truly oudid myself ..... Now 15 years later I'm going to have to ask!!!-Lol

Sweetheart it’s not call braids. We call it cornrows. It’s when hair is braided close to the scalp, using a underhand upward motion. It builds a continuous raised row.

Sophie is soo sweet and the braids look amazing. I have to try this technique on a friend's child, she has the same fine hair and it is a nightmare to braid, but the girl loves braids. Thanks again

She is 😊 Really try and get your fingers on the braid to get it tight...it was hard to do this in the video as I was trying to let you see what I was doing with my fingers 😊
