    As Podiatrist i totally agree with the Barefoot shoe comment here. I had known patients who tried basketball and other indoor court sports with the barefoot shoes and immediately get blisters and bruises. I still wonder if they keep trying that. These things take time and people don't know how hard they push themselves especially their feet (often neglected)! Bones and muscles take time to adapt and Connective tissues take even more time! Even orthotics will take some time to adapt. IT HAS TO BE TAILORED TO THE PATIENT Individually!

    Videos like this help me appreciate the significance of some of your shoe analysis regarding the fit (shape of shoe, width, length) and stability/lockdown that might otherwise have gone over my head. I've always appreciated the list of conditions that each shoe might be beneficial for (shin splints, ankle sprains, etc.) Thanks!

    Great video, thanks! Something from my recent personal experience that caused debilitating foot nerve pain in both feet for 7 months was a Vitamin B12 deficiency (Pernicious Anemia) that was missed by several doctors, including an Orthopedic Foot Surgeon and a Surgical Podiatrist (who performed Tarsal Tunnel Surgery on one foot that didn't help at all). Finally, a smart-thinking Neurologist ordered a simple blood B12 test and found my B12 level was the lowest he had seen in 40 years. After 1 month of B12 shots in my arm, I could start walking without foot pain and eventually recovered enough to run 1 marathon and 2 ultramarathons in 2023. I still get a Methyl B12 shot every month and was advised to do so for the rest of my life,

    I know from time to time with long days on my feet ( I'm pretty heavy) I'll have a swollen nerve and pain between my middle and 4th toe.
    I've found a heavier/ thicker sole shoe that reduces the chance of lateral bowing in the toe bridge of my foot helps the most.
    First happened with some dunks or similar Nike thin sole shoes about 15 years ago.
    Really makes finding sneakers difficult.

    Hey Zach, I recently experienced some discomfort in the balls of my feet after playing 3 hours of tennis 4-5 days in a row (which at 67 years old, I try not to do too often - I like to give my body a day off after I play and train at the gym instead). I decided to have it checked and my doctor took x-rays to be prudent. They found "Increased sclerosis of the fifth of the third metatarsal, possible Freiberg's disease." They offered me a cortisone shot if the discomfort did not improve. They suggested the normal course of treatment (anti-inflammatories and ice). Is there anything I can do on my end in the choice of tennis shoes or treatment to deal with this issue? BTW I was wearing Adidas Barricade 2023s prior to this. I have since decided to change to the Lacoste AGLT 23 - also a low quick shoe, but seems to offer better ankle support and forefoot cushioning. Any thoughts on that?

    I had a stress fracture in my foot in high school but kept playing with it and eventually broke it completely. How frequent is a full break on a stress fracture?

    • @FootDoctorZach
      @FootDoctorZach  Місяць тому

      It usually is so painful that the person gets off of it before it cracks but id say if once theres a stress fracture and the person keeps putting weight on it- the rate is pretty darn high

    It’s rough man. I am predominantly a heel/middle of the foot striker which sucks. I play in the kd trey 5 ix & x’s and the renew foam underneath the heel is way too soft for my liking.

      @@suppressed_viii I know but I like them because they remind me so much of the hyper fusion or the hyper dunks back in 2011 & 2013. Maybe if I throw an orthopedic or something I don’t know another Basketball shoes on the market right now to similar to the KD trey 5’s. Zach said they are the ja1 and tatums but they’re to low for my liking.

      Then get new shoes….not that difficult. Cheap basketball shoes will destroy your feet, legs and back, especially as you get older. You get what you pay for. Just spend the $50 more on good shoes so that you won’t have to pay medical bills later

    Man studying medicine of any kind would be so demoralising for me because you learn of all these different ways your body (parts) can fail which I was blissfully oblivious of beforehand.
    Same with studying martial arts. It is supposed make you feel safer but it only gives me anxiety as I learn of all the different methods I can get beaten up in ways I never knew before.😂
    Ignorance truly is bliss :(
