Okay, catching up on this after watching the corvette video twice, Ralphie needs to see this, you said tires, so now I’m like, I need to know more on this casing joke… it’s gotta be in a video after this I guess lol
Well, lookee there! An early VZ Holden Monaro! She's a beaut. Love seeing Australasian machines in other countries - even thought I am in New Zealand, they are still from my back yard and are the closest thing we had (at the time) to the Muscle cars from the States. Yep - that oil pressure was definitely down and something was up as they are usually a good and easy engine to start, run and enjoy. I had a horrible rattle in mine when idling, but it sounded like the death rattle of a main bearing at about 3000rpm and I panicked something chronic! Turned out it was that final lobe on the header vibrating against the head at certain RPM. I've also had a knock that sounded like a big end which turned out to be the harmonic balancer and a rattling squeaky tinging that turned out to be the heat shield on the exhaust! Maybe I shouldn't have worried so much, but if it were another car, the sounds could have been indicators of something terminal instead of an easily-fixed annoyance! Just happened to trip over this episode in my feed, so will follow the rest of the build on it and then see if I can check out some of the other vehicles I've heard mentioned in the past couple of years that I've been subscribed. Wasn't aware of the huge back catalogue that you have uploaded, mate! Plenty to keep me busy over the next couple of weeks! Cheers and all the best.
@@Sleeperdude - My friend, it is the least I can do to help support you and your lovely family.. Besides which, it's great content and an insight into how you tackled the bigger stuff. I've also finished watching all the content in the Starlet playlist as I had heard a lot about the car, but never seen anything on it and didn't realise it was on the channel. There are a few other beasts that have playlists that I want to watch too and everything I've watched so far has been in pure Josh / SleeperDude style and very enjoyable, so never undersell your ability as a teacher / instructor on camera or worry that you might be missing your original target audience. It's all excellent content and very watchable.. People say "Go watch other videos on my channel" but I think I'd have made the effort to look before now if I had known what treasures were hiding back there. You might like to mention them sometime when a previous build that's on the channel comes up in conversation. By the way, that GTO looked and sounded every bit "The Beast" when she was all done (saw it a few times in the Starlet videos). I miss it already.....!!
Sounds like the mail.balancing pulley at the crank.. take the pulley off and see how it sounds. Sump strainer is libel to clog up too. Did you know if you take the live lead off the battery and earth it for at least 3 hours, the ECU will reset and it will run smoother.. but check that oil strainer,
The cut shroud is for an over the radiator intake. They must have kept it and put the stock air box back on. That’s also why the sight shield is missing over the radiator.
@@Sleeperdude Love the TBird`s wish I had one , I don`t know how many made it to Australia . All the best wishes to you and your family thanks for a great show it`s better than Jeopardy.
Im not seeking deliberation. I thought the standard procedure is compression test with, WOT? Maybe some lube in the hole being, tested? My buddy gimme a 383 stroker (compete/ready, set, go.) I handed the engine off again to another friend of, mine. (He still has it/complete long block 383 stroker/ran great in the mid - late, 90s. I didnt use any lube, it had no carb on it when i tested the, compression. Needless to, say. The compression was all over the place & i did it the same way i think yall did? Anyhow, the harmonic balancer was welded to the, crank. Compression was all over the place (dry/no flaps to hold, open. I had a .040 from the factory 350 chevy im my cutlass but i blew it up. That stroker motor my buddy gimme i wasnt comfortable with. So, i ended up buying a 350 out of a 69 model motorhome & running that with a 350 turbo/stage II, KIT. nothing too crazy.
Well when I was a young boy about 19 I work in NASCAR with my stepdad and my sister made the mechanic he turned out to be the head mechanic by the Ford dealership and South Florida let me get to this he tuck a broom handle a wedding broom handle made it about 4 ft long yes it has to be a wooden handle why the car is running he can take and put the stick on the side of the block while it was running into his ear and he can hear every movement in the engine it was weird he showed it to me I tried it I can hear the inner working of the crankshaft and every bearing the last have to move the stick to where you think the bearings are
