    Your such an inspiration to kitchen friendly dyes! Please don't give up on them! I want to try this in the winter when I can be in my kitchen. 😄💕

      OnaQuest forFiber I'll never give up! I want to expand to learn more about the comparison. I have so many food coloring ideas I need to do, too.

    So awesome, really good experiment and you did get a very pretty skein to use! Maybe some fingerless gloves, and ear warmers for you or a holiday gift! Thanks for sharing, loved it!

      I try to do a round up video every once in a while of the hand knits I've done with my hand dyed yarn. Unfortunately I dye yarn MUCH faster than I can knit with it. :)

      Awesome! When I started dyeing with KoolAid I knew which of my local stores carried which colors. :) Now I tend to buy out stores when they have Wilton's Violet in stock. That seems to be very popular. ;)

    Chemnitz Tutorials
    A bit of background on what I do.
    I do a ton of crocheting large shawls for women in my area, with cancer and other seriously illnesses, after I have my church family pray for the one whom I gift it to. This is something that I have been doing for several years now.
    My latest shawl is a large double pineapple pattern I designed. I used white for this current project.
    What I am wanting to do is actually color in the entire shawl, not unlike ye old paint by numbers.
    So, can this be used in an artists paint sprayer, or would I need to use a paintbrush? And, if it can be used in this method of yarn painting, should I have to worry about the colors eventually fading away, or washing out?
    Any bit of help would be greatly appreciated.

      I think you could definitely apply color with a paint sprayer. You would ultimately get a shallower application or color, but if you're using acid dyes or food coloring the colors should last as well as it would with a paint brush. I've used misto sprays, food coloring sprays, and squirt bottles to apply color successfully.

    How do you get a darker pink color from jodie

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  6 років тому

      The darker pinks came from Cherry and Black Cherry KoolAid

    When dyeing with koolaid, what temperature of water should be used to rinse after its cooled? Thanks love the videos :)

      Kate K I use cool water on cool yarn. The warmest I go is luke warm sometimes.

      Ive tried to find packets of koolaod here in canada but it turns out there is only big boxes sold in stores. Do you think the liquid bottles of koolaid mix to add to water would work? Thank you for your help :)

      YES! They should have citric acid in them. I have some of these that I plan to play with when I start filming the sponsored Dyepot Weekly episodes. :)

    Does coolaid fade overtime?

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials

      In this video I have some of my handknits done with koolaid/food coloring years ago. The butterfly that I left in direct sunlight (on a windowsill for months) faded. The winter accessories that live in my closet when I'm not wearing them (and I wear them frequently) have not faded. ua-cam.com/video/izhOyrUJ6Ys/v-deo.html

      ChemKnits Tutorials love this info, thank you. Would adding a steeping stage in cool water and salt at the end before rinsing help to keep color from fading? I would love to do this but we do not have Kool Aid powder packets in our country Thanks again.

      You can absolutely dye the yarn in multiple steps. I love to dye in succession to have different layering of color.

      @ChemKnitsTutorials  6 років тому

      Sun dyeing is absolutely a thing! I"ve never tried it but I think it would be a lot of fun. It will take longer, but it will work.
