This is one of the best pieces to play to create a soothing relaxing vibe. I guess that's why UA-cam insists on playing the most violent obnoxious commercials while this is playing.
For those who still wonder: The group is called Atmos4. Mickey Wagner - piano Esther Doornink - marimba Annemieke IJzerman - harp Peter Elbertse - marimba
I love listening to Canto Ostinato and this version is one of the best ever 'performance' I have heard.. Thank you so much for posting this. I say "performance" because for me it is more about "being present", a meditative presence as I call it. And it supports my focus and meditation immensely. And I love the softness of the Marimba and Harp..
This definitely my favorite version EVER. And I've collected a few. Congratulations on creating such a fantastic version As far as the debate on whether this should be keyboards only- I'd let the ears decide. The different Timbres really help articulate the lines better, IMO. Although I would have loved to seen one of the marimbas replaced with a hammered dulcimer or Cimbalom. Someday, perhaps. if we took the purist approach,, Ravel never would have orchestrated Pictures at an Exhibition.
I wish I could press the like button in a post-minimalist manner - over and over again with only the name changing! And I agree with others here, that Maestro ten Holt’s name should appear in the video title.
beautiful, delicate interpretation , maybe my all time favourite piece of music, was living in Amsterdam first time I heard it, practically stopped breathing, not since the first time I heard cantus for Benjamin britain 30 years ago had a piece of music pinned me to the ground like this. space, time , pattern, what else do you need.
If you look at the pianist's score at 16:50 you can see the different sections scotch taped to the paper. The clever idea is that you could cut and paste this piece in multiple ways so that you could go ad infinitum.
Sorry, but to me the instrument combo doesn't work or maybe I'm too used to the traditional piano version (be it for two, four or six pianos), especially the marimba and even more the harp, they don't mix well and the marimba sounds very muffled and obscures a lot of the melodic details. It's just my own subjective, I see from many comments it does work for many other people, so what do I know. Even the piano is very obscure hardly noticable, it could be the quality of the recording though. Anyway, lots of respect for the musicians, a daring undertaking. This is my favourite: ua-cam.com/video/pQakgryixO0/v-deo.html When it is about experimentation with other types of instruments, I like this one: ua-cam.com/video/44UnHasUv1Y/v-deo.html

Is Atmos4 still 'alive'? On their website only old concerts, no concerts for 2024...?

Wat prachtig. Voor het eerst een Canto afgeluisterd!!
it would be a good idea to put the name of the composer no? Simeon Ten Holt
And it is fabulous. Love all versions.
Beautiful! Wishing I could buy a recording of this and support the artists

I think in this case it was mainly so that they don't have to turn pages quite as often, as you don't have any breaks in the whole piece
Wow! That's incredible!
Heerlijke muziek voor een lange rit in de auto op de A2 van Maastricht naar Amsterdam…..
heerlijke muziek!!
Een verrassende uitvoering. prachtig de verschillende klankleuren.
Addictive to listen to.

Wie zijn de muzikanten?
Quienes son sus intérpretes?
Heel mooi gedaan! Ik denk dat jullie de categorie moeten aanpassen naar Muziek ipv Film & Animatie
simpel toch, prachtig, als dit je hart ziel en geest niet raakt, dan ben je een sneeuwpop ;-)

schitterende uitvoering.
Aardige muziek, geen toppers
Please, a tad more respect. Peter Elbertse, the marimba player used to be the percussionist of the Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest, amongst others
Canto ostinato is written for KEYBOARD instruments.... where is keyboard in harp?
+2010Piano Yes and J.S. Bach did not wrote for the piano, so what?
Canto ostinato is written for KEYBOARD INSTUMENTS not for piano my friend :)
Harp is not a keyboard instrument.... don't You think?
+2010Piano so what? Bach did not write for a piano but should we forbid it for pianists? Are you the official music-police or what?
Who cares? It sounds amazing like this! I'm sure Simeon Ten Holt would agree.
Piano is a string instrument. So is a harp... problem solved! You're welcome :-)
Don't be a loser...there are too many losers already!
