This video is markedly better than previous videos of all net teachers. Please keep up this paradigm. Your teaching is greatly appreciated. Some of us are seriously unpacking every word you say. Please remember that there is no such thing as too slow. It is easy to skip forward. This is an excellent demo of how you apply box voicing. Please post more videos of the same type. Thank you.

I really appreciate your relaxed teaching style! And, nothing like learning from "the real deal." Also love the fact that you play a piano that is so well in-tune! It's amazing how many acoustic pianos on UA-cam (played by good players) are horribly out of tune. It's just a pleasure to listen to you play..... (and on that piano) Thank you Tony.

@ThePianoMan1953... Well said. He´s so modest about his ability.

For the avoid note (16:18), one thing that works for me is to play a fourth (tetra) chord starting of the 5th of the scale over the root. I don't like to only describe the math. So here's the example(s):
For the Bbmaj chord, the (basic) voicing is Bb(2) in the root, and F-Bb-Eb on top. Then let your right hand (5th finger) follow the melody down. This works (even better) for the Fmaj: F(3) in the root, and C(4)-F-Bb
If you also double the melody in the left hand, the voice leading is nice (on the F chord) because the melody leads you right into the E-7b5. Doesn't work as smoothly on the Bbma7 chord though ;-).
The doubled voicing (for the F chord) would be F(3)-Bb(3) in the left hand and C(4)-F-Bb in the right and then let both Bbs follow the melody down into the E-7b5 voicing.
Sorry for being so "geeky" about it. A little tricky to describe in words. But try it - it actually works nicely.
For the curious, my goofy () notation is talking about the octave. Middle C = C(4). So go down one octave then you get C(3). Every note in the same octave has the same () number. So Bb(2) is the Bb one octave below the one next to middle C (because it's in the octave of the C two octaves down from middle C - C(2).

Thanks for putting in so much work on this. As an instructor, I really appreciate the way you go from simple and complex and also display the chords on the screen along with your voicings. Also, I love how you show both one and two hand voicing variations. Great job. What are you using for video editing on this? Looks great.

Hey Tony, thanks for this, man.
Your relaxed and methodical teaching method makes a daunting subject a little less . . . terrifying.
Somebody mentioned how nice it is that your piano is in tune.
I totally agree. How many Bill Evans sessions were recorded with an out of tune piano? It drives me insane and I never understood why he would put anything to tape before insisting that the piano was tuned.
