  • Yamaha U3 vs YUS3 Upright Pianos Comparison - Main Differences and Demonstration
Yamaha’s world-famous U3 Upright Piano has been around for several decades, but since their YUS3 was released around 10 years ago, the latter model has offered a viable alternative for pianists wanting a large upright, but which can respond better to their expressive requirements. Both 131cm in height, these pianos benefit from long strings, a large soundboard, and a large cabinet for optimal sound resonance. In this video, Colin discusses the main differences which set the YUS3 apart from the U3, however, and explains how these improved features lead to this instrument having a larger tonal palette and a wider expressive range.
Of course, choosing the right piano for you is ultimately a personal choice, and we always recommend visiting us to try these models for yourself, particularly since we often stock different examples of each one. Very nice and I am a classical pianist and teach at an advanced level let me break down the difference do you five Yamaha is about 15% more on price than the U3 . You are not getting a bigger piano both have the 52” height; same base. You get that middle pedal called Sostenuto pedal. It allows you to play a left-handed cord and play multiple notes on the right handed cord late giving extra layers of complexity however I’ll tell you the truth I only came across that maybe one of the compositions.
I like the fact that I can my Las Vegas pianos guy is a licensed Yamaha dealer at the Yamaha US store they’re going for $16,000 but he’ll give it to Piano teachers for 13,600 and veterans . I have a $5000 piano so all I need to save is about $9000. 15 percent more is over 10,000 and you can get a used car.
On the u5 it has a place for you to hang notes but some musicians find it odd and out of place. I say the U3 is the sweet-spot.
To summarize, in conclusion, is worth it to pay for the upgrade to go from aYU3 vs a YU1 but it is not worth the 15 percent price jump to a Yu6, you are talking probably after taxes and shipping g about $20000 us

Do you recommend trying a piano before buying it? Meaning it may be very difficult sometimes if you cannot travel far

Yes, it's generally recommended to play them before buying, since the same model can sound quite different when trying different examples.

Do the U3 and YUS3 both have sostenuto pedals and a celeste rail?

New U3's and YUS3's both have sostenuto pedals, but neither of them have celeste rails. The YUS5, however, has both.

@@RichardLawsonPianosLtd oh right. I noticed in the video the YUS3 had a celeste rail so i was a bit confused. Is it possible to put a make shift celeste in these models?

These Yamaha pianos are usually demonstrated with Classical type music only. And would prefer some videos with using them for blues, pop, country, & basic rock. I don't play Classical music. And these pianos are always having a demo with Clasical or similar only.
I'm not looking for a Classical only.... piano.

You should be able to discern the tone of the instrument regardless of the genre being played. If they were playing rock I could still tell if I would enjoy it for my classical playing
