😂. I like to think so. We were out this afternoon practicing. We were working on getting going from a stand still, finding the bite point of the clutch, easing on the throttle, and all that. Fortunately no one lives on our road but us, so we just started and stopped over and over again for half an hour😂
So cool! Can’t wait to see it all fixed up and detailed. There is a Porsche suv (sorry I don’t know name) for sale close to Hattiesburg. It’s nice from what I hear. Congrats Sawyer
Congrats to young Sawyer! Pretty damned cool first car. Tried to talk my son into a 944, probably more for me than for him. LOL! Should provide for unforgettable Father - Son wrenching and driving and memories that’ll last a life time. Looking forward to the process.
Man it’s such a cool little car. Sawyer just drove it tonight across town for the first time. So far he’s just been going up and down our gravel road to get used to driving manual. I was with him, and he did great!
It sounds like an interest project! I hope that you will have your son help 😂. I would recommend placing it on a lift to look for leaks. Be sure to clean the drains of the sunroof to prevent unwanted surprises. Good luck!!
Sawyer is cautiously excited about wrenching on it. I will definitely be fanning that flame! It does have some oil leaks that I failed to mention in the video.
The last time that you upgraded to a 997.2 from your 996, you inspired me to do the same. This time I’m not going to follow your lead. A Toyota Celica would have been my choice! 😆😆

Nice! The early 944 is my preference to the 85.5-up models... love the reissued 924 interior, and the yellow markings on the gauges are classic early 944!
@@motorsandmeats88 That continued into the 1987/88 924S too, although the gauge faces were marked in white by then. My first Porsche was an '87 924S, loved that car.
There is no cowling on the early cars apart from the "hamster cage" over the center blower motor. I have had issues with filling the car with gas too if you do not have the nozzle at the right angle for it to make a straight shot into the tank.
Interesting. Not sure if you can see it in the video or not, but on the side opposite of the battery, there’s a loose piece of plastic that I cannot tell what it’s intended to be covering. I was reading on rennlist or somewhere about the vent tube for the filler neck being loose or something and not allowing the pressure to build up to make the fuel pump shut off. Will investigate further!
@motorsandmeats88 I actually just put a new motor mount into my Cayman and also installed some aftermarket urethane inserts that stiffen up the factory mount...I didn't realise that the inserts I had gotten (marketplace purchase) were the "race" hardness.... Holy NVH Batman, took them out after one day.
Your door cards likely got wet/rotting on the backside bottom. If you are not worried about 100% originality, I have seen people cut the tops (scripted part) off and build "RS" style door cards with a luan thin plywood panel that looks really nice.
It a nine forty four. Not a nine four four. Hopefully you don’t also say nine one one. Now that’s out of the way, what a cool car! I’ve had four of them and one 944 s2. They are amazing cars, just the right size.
Ha! This debate is about as tough as which oil is the best oil!😂. I do say nine nine six and nine nine seven though😬. I’m such a nerd that I googled nine four four vs nine forty four before I recorded this and found that MOST responded with nine four four 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Starting your son off in a manual, now that's good parenting!!!

This is so COOL! I am sooooo happy for your son ! 2 944’s on the Tail next year ? Congrats and good luck!
Hopefully both the the car and Sawyer will be ready by then!
Awesome!!! My first Porsche was an 85 early NA. Loved that car so much! Enjoy, young man!
That’s awesome! It’s a lot of fun to drive. We have been having manual driving lessons the last couple days, and he is catching on quickly.
Taking notes. My son is 10. You are the coolest dad in the world.
😂😂😂. I appreciate the kind words!
Yay! 944!!! Jay should’ve gotten a 944 instead of the 928!
😂😂😂. It’s a really fun little car. My favorite with Jay’s car was when it had the ‘Tis But A Scratch’ sticker before he got the dent repaired!
I might still! I’m watching this with interest! Michael’s a good mate of mine!

@martinespinosa 😂 My dad had an ‘84 Celica for a short period of time. It was manual and hatchback. I loved driving it as a teenager!
I’m in England, I have a 2008 cayman but I’m always looking at 944s!!! Nice mate🔥🔥👌🏻
I’ve loved the Cayman since they first came out. I remember seeing one inside the Des Moines, Iowa shopping mall in 2007
@ yep… no immediate plans to replace it either ☺️☺️☺️

The gauges are very cool in this one. The upside down tach is really unique.

@@motorsandmeats88 There is a plastic piece that is kind of triangular I think that cover the wiper motor on the driver side.
@papasmurf986 gotcha. That’s been my best guess, but I haven’t figured out how to secure it there. It just sort of lays there loosely.
I'd check the engine mounts too with regards to the drive line shunting
Great idea. I did the engine mounts on my 911 and it made a huge improvement to the smoothness of the shifts.

@ Lolol. I bet you felt EVERYTHING
Love it!
Thanks again for hosting me on the Porsche-retrieval trip!
anytime sir!

Yes I think you are right. I have seen that look and really like it.

They've been nine-four-fours to me since they were new in the 80s. 😎
@@motorsandmeats88 I sure say nine four four, nine forty four sounds weird!
