Big thanks to the David for hosting the contest and making awesome video showcasing all of the planes. Very nice effort by all of the participants, with some really innovative designs. Congratulations to the Squiddy for making the fastest stock prop plane and for breaking the sound barrier. My planes are on KerbalX if anyone wants to try them out. kerbalx.com/Rade/craft
The hull is drastically different that the dornier yet i see why he makes the link. It does look a bit like it with the two propellors lmao. Realky cool design (and also a cool vertical take off)
everybody know about the XF-84H Thunderstreak plane? It was a real plane and the tips of the propellers went supersonic. They were hoping to achieve speeds of over 600mph but it only went 520mph... still amazing though.
RIP David Nielsen. This can do a lot to your channel (not uploading often enough could cause some fans to either: unsubscribe, or completely forget about your channel, making future vids have trouble getting views)
The last three ones already exceed mach 1 (340.3 m/s or arround 761 mph or 1225 kph ), one of then even reaches 345 m/s, that's clearly supersonic, you can even see the sonic boom cone.
I like the propeller set up of the guys plane at 11:00. It reminds me of the Wyvern S.4 introduced in 1953 which had two alternating propellers at the front (to my memory) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westland_Wyvern
I don't see why the last one should be classified. Seems a bit fishy. I didn't enter because I couldn't get mine to dive correctly and I thought that was a requirement. Oh well on that, great video either way. It's nice to see people involve the community like you and Marcus House, I was watching Vanoss and Delirious for the longest time and only once every like 15 videos would they even reply to comments. Even then, 1 reply lol
Hi am to start studying to become a pilot soon (so i can pass the written test but i have flown planes quite a few times (i think 4 or 5) so i have some experience not to boast) and when you're landing to have the breaks on before you contact the ground and this could end up in some unscheduled dis-assemblies and what you should do is to wait until you have good wheel contact on the ground then to use the breaks trust me once you start doing this you will notice that landings will be easier and it also means you can have the breaking force higher as you will already have contact with the ground. i used to have brakes on before landing in simulators and would always spin out and crash but then i started to land without brakes then after good contact apply the brakes i noticed that i never spun out even going in at a 15 degree angle and when using brakes i spun out even going straight on. and the main reason why i am helping you by writing this is because "I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE PLAYING KSP DO THEIR BRAKES BEFORE CONTACT WITH THE GROUND AND WONDER WHY THEY CRASH BECAUSE THEIR LANDING GEAR BREAK".... *sigh* well i hope that this has helped you and hope that you come up with another sub contest soon so you don't spend ages coming up with designs on your own and plus i enjoy watching them and would join the next one. signed, Donuts
The key is to try to reduce the drag as much as possible. That should help more than additional reaction wheels. Also VB-10 uses 2x20 reaction wheels. Small plane with 20 reaction wheels engine should be able to get to about 180-185m/s.
There's a fault in the measurements. The altitude at which the speed is recorded is different for each plane. Why not have a consistent altitude for each speed test.
The Prop and the Plane are seperate ships. Inside the faring there are the Staputnik probes witch acts like a bearing. first you eject with a docking port inside the fairing. then the prop and the plane separates. But the fairing keeps it from flying off. So when you switched to the prop, You Hold Alt+Q/E then the Roll meter slowly moves depending on what key you are holding it. Then when it reaches to max you can let go and then the prop starts to automatically spin itself
So, were these things battery powered? I assume roll of the reaction wheels worked the propellors. So... do they eventually run out? Was the DLC out then?
They were all powered by reaction wheels rotating inside an open space inside the main craft. The DLC was not out yet but people have been making stuff like this for years.

“I want to get back into making videos when ksp2 comes out”
Please tell me this is true...
I'd love to see BIGGEST propeller planes next, that would ebe amazing :)
You mean Avus II?
Great Video as always! Thanks for hosting the contest, I had fun participating and I'm amazed by all the fantastic designs.
Squiddy's looks suspiciously like a Do-335 xD
Not at all... Maybe to my mom it would look the same. Because they both have wings and a cockpit.
The hull is drastically different that the dornier yet i see why he makes the link. It does look a bit like it with the two propellors lmao. Realky cool design (and also a cool vertical take off)
I've still got a lot of room to improve on my engine designs but it was fun to participate!
Please keep making videos! Your so good at it!

It was so loud that people reported they could hear it take off from 25miles away.
Perhaps a recommendation for a follow-up challenge, Speedboats? i.e. Hydrofoils...
Squiddy's plane looked like a Do.335
yass, someone see it too :D
acted like it too; goes at a fair lick.
My thoughts exactly.
Oh wow it does
The one that launches upwards is a BA 345 or 349 I forgot the numbers
holy crap some of them were amazeballs contra rotating props that's some damn good kerbal engineering
I love these videos! They are always of the highest quality and awesomest to watch
True that

this community has really shown their creativity and engineering skills through these airplanes
the Mercury 200 reminds me of the Dornier Do 335 Pfiel
You are my favorite KSP UA-camr! Respect
I hope you upload sometime. Ive been waiting for more than 2 years for a new vid
2 Days after this a korean guy posted an stock propeller plane flying at 360 m/s, no batteries, flying almost forever, like most of these designs
Soviet Gamer, WE ARE THE SLAVICS RIGHT!?
But he/she break the speed. So the winner is that Korean youtuber.
Not Squiddy
Squiddy's Sora plane's top speed is 325, While that Korean youtuber has break into 360, See?
Wow these are all great, I couldn't get my planes to work but Il try some more and maybe get better at making these.
I dare you to make a chopper
Melon, but that one will be soon.
Or it will be Kerman/Karman sky Event
it's ez af. i made like 10 models. :)
Why didn't Squiddy see the need for a nose cone on the last aircraft? It would be even more streamlined.
Please make videos again ):

I think the 2nd to last one was more impressive since it could actually land and take off normally instead of using structures to assist.
I look forward to seeing more stuff from you when KSP2 is released!
It is said to release in 2022, 2 more years of absence i guess
Patience is a virtue ;)
i love how some of them go supersonic
We miss you, please come back
Jastreb looks like the best one of them all.
Fastest one that can take off and land like a plane.
Wow... 2 years have past since his last video
One thing I wanna see is a propeller that requires movement and recycles it so it lasts a long time not forever but it’s pretty good
Nice stuff
Hey David! You should do a stock jet plane competition. I have a few that do quite a number! 😏
Why is it whenever I make a stock prop the ball barring explodes or the props brake off. Sometimes the engine isn't stable either.
Here it's a challenge : a propeller plane that beats sonic speed
The last three ones already exceed mach 1 (340.3 m/s or arround 761 mph or 1225 kph ), one of then even reaches 345 m/s, that's clearly supersonic, you can even see the sonic boom cone.

+Jake aka Remaggib I can assure you the last plane by Squiddy was 100% stock. He just wanted to keep the engine to himself for further development.
Good to see a French plane in that video (The Arsenal VB.10 :p)

I would like to see longest range stock prop plane :D
They have infinite range if you add enough solar panels and other electricity generators.
Elon Musk - Your Move
Wonderful challenge
Keep doing this videos so awesomely and I will run put of words to describe it dammit!
How do these get so stable? The single prop I've been working on shakes itself apart and the propeller likes to not be aligned while flying.
I wonder what happened to squiddy? I used to talk to him years ago now he's gone.
He is still alive, he recently liked a tweet from elon on Jan 28 this year.. But so sad hes not posting again..
He is not making videos until Ksp2 comes out. Or at least, that’s what his channel says.

Does anyone know what happened to Squiddy’s channel?
Maybe it's because he's korean...

Will there be a plane dropping bombs ?
someone forgot the Donier Do-335 Pfeil which is the real fastest prop plane
I'm amazed how rade gets 200ms on 20 small reaction wheels. I can barely get to 200 with 10 medium ones.
The key is to try to reduce the drag as much as possible. That should help more than additional reaction wheels. Also VB-10 uses 2x20 reaction wheels. Small plane with 20 reaction wheels engine should be able to get to about 180-185m/s.

what plane can fly to moon? or orbit?
There's a fault in the measurements. The altitude at which the speed is recorded is different for each plane. Why not have a consistent altitude for each speed test.
how the hell do you control the plane at the same time with the prop?
The Prop and the Plane are seperate ships. Inside the faring there are the Staputnik probes witch acts like a bearing. first you eject with a docking port inside the fairing. then the prop and the plane separates. But the fairing keeps it from flying off. So when you switched to the prop, You Hold Alt+Q/E then the Roll meter slowly moves depending on what key you are holding it. its a inside joke i have with my sister
Which camera mod are you using...
why nearly everyone uses a cockpit instead of a probe core: it's waisted weight.
whocares it will get it as cool as possible i know its heavier but hey, it still flies
because then it wouldnt be as cool. Kerbals need to have fun in highspeed propeller planes.
А когда будит самолёт который сбрасывает бомбы ?
How do you shut off the props?
By activating SAS on the prop (I think, it works on my prop planes).
Alt/Mod-X cancels trim
plz i need the .crft file of the VB-10, that plane is amazing
It's up on KerbalX kerbalx.com/Rade/craft
