This movie really affected my partner. For valentines day im getting them a fake stone that says "you are my rock", with a pair of googly eyes from an "emergency" googly eye kit I bought on the side
Fun Fact: This scene was originally meant to have the characters talking vocally, but Michelle Yeoh suggested to the directors to just have the scene silent with text on the screen. Glad they did, cause this scene was perfect for us/the audience to catch our breath, while also having our heart strings teared up.
Not really. I feel it fits within the movie itself. Though I do see where you are coming from in that the scene looks like something out of a short film
There's a manga series where one of the characters ends up chilling having actual back-and-forth conversations with some rocks. The scene immediately made me think of that, made the whole thing even funnier.
Exactly what I thought about the scene. It was genius to have a moment of silence as a transition from comedy to drama so the emotional buildup could feel even more intense.
How many money paid someone to you to post bs like this? Stupid scene, stupid movie, boring movie, absurd movie, fake movie, bad filmmaking movie. Great acting. Oscars are dead and buried.
“Just be a rock” has stuck with me ever since i watched this. An easy reminder to not overthink everything, to just exist in the world as a person, to be with what’s in front of you. It’s okay to not be busy all of the time - it’s okay to just simply exist
As a geologist, you would know that those rocks are probably too smooth to be at the top there. The look more like the rocks weathered by water in the rivers rather than at the cliff. Unless of course, there was an increase in elevation due to some seismic shifts.
I had NO IDEA we could do that in a movie: filming immobile rocks with text messages to give it characters. Never once have I seen this before and it's psychologically brilliant and funny!! The dIrectors are creative and brave! LOVE IT.
This scene honestly made me bawl, I watched it with my parents and it spot on nailed how I feel/felt about life. My parents thought I was crazy but it was a huge important scene for me to digest
What Joy misses is that every discovery makes us feel smaller, true, BUT the ACT of realizing you are small, the power of SELF-AWARENESS, THAT is as far as we know UNIQUE. The very thing that allows us to realize how small and insignificant we are IS THE VERY THING IN ITSELF THAT MAKES US LARGE AND POWERFUL, because the power of self-awareness is the power to IMPROVE. You can't move to a better place until you can see you are IN A PLACE at all. Step one of solving any problem is knowing you have a problem.
She isn't in a place though. She's experiencing everything while fractured into infinite pieces... that's the whole point of the story; in observing everything, she realizes how pointless it all is.
Yes, but that has no point in this movie at all. Also, why the f those rocks are there? I mean, they look like they are from another part of the landscape and are there? Also, if most of the life forms are like them, why there is a piece of grass there?
You were more brave and tried to go deeper with your take that the whole movie did. There's nothing deep about thos scene "we are all small in the universe" wow, such a brave take by the movie, not done 1000 times before or anything.
Sad that Joy was suffering and wanted to end herself and was looking for her mum that would understand her to convince her to stay, "I was hoping you would see something I didn't that you would convince me there was another way"
Coming straight from the scene where Evelyn goes into every universe at once, this was truly the best movie theatre I’ve ever had. Nobody talked the entire time.
Yes, sometimes I'll be so overwhelmed with everything that I just wish I could be a rock in the middle of nowhere for some peace and quiet. This scene really gives me some catharsis

Every universe they're in, they're basically accessing their alternate selves, not bringing their bodies with them. As explained by Left Rock, this is a universe where life didn't evolve, so the closest thing to their bodies is rocks.
I feel bad for you. You’ve not experienced enough of life to relate to some of the messages this movie conveys. That or you’re just incapable of understanding allegorical media
@@josiahworthington3881 You misunderstand what I am saying. I relate to the sentiment of the film and I certainly understand the allegory - my point is that, in the case of this movie, they aren't profound. In my opinion, the only way that someone could think that the writing of this film is particularly deep/revelatory/profound is if this is their first time consuming media that was intended for a thinking adult audience that wasn't simply mass-media schlock (superhero/action/pure comedy). Hell even most of the books assigned for 10th and 11th graders in English classes are more profound than this movie, it really is not anything special in that regard.
@@Aksownsbske wisdom knows no limit of age. Saying that all people who find this movie profound are 15-year-olds or have the mind of a 15-year-old doesn't sound wise regardless of your age.
It took me 3 sittings to get through this movie due to pure exhaustion but began loving and understanding the concept about halfway through. The use of the rocks in the desert is genius. I will wait a few weeks and replay it because I truly think this will become a cult classic sooner rather than later.

Kinda justified, since before the rock scene, Evelyn and all of her counterparts lose their collective shit. We viewers need a respite.
Exactly what I thought about the scene. It was genius to have a moment of silence as a transition from comedy to drama so the emotional buildup could feel even more intense.
How can it be that one of the most emotionally devastating scenes in a movie in 2022 is two rocks with googly eyes and no spoken dialogue?
